I've been a repeat customer of Harpers over the past couple of years, and have had several custom suits and jackets made by them. Harpers is a rare gem to have in this area, and we're lucky to have them. The staff are all very fashion-forward, and are all more than capable to send you on your way looking sharper than when you came in. The store itself is very upscale, and feels like a place you'd find on Savile Row (without the Savile Row prices.) Really great seasonal selections, with a lot of well-curated accessories available. Their custom garments are where they really shine however. With hundreds of fabrics, linings, buttons, and styles to choose from, it is always a joy creating something that is uniquely yours. Fine selection of higher end clothing. Pricey, for sure, but good quality. Free tailoring for life if you buy a suit there. Unfortunately, the employee had a bad attitude and acted like it was a huge burden to set up the tailoring (and he wasn't even the one doing the alterations!). Not only that, messed up the alteration request completely and I now have an ill-fitting suit and not enough time before our event to have it re-done. Thanks. read more

Harpers is one of my favorite places to shop. The clothing selection is vast, interesting, and stylish. They also offer tuxedo rentals and were extremely courteous and easy to work with when I needed to rent a tux. Their selection of Penn State gear is really cool -- I got a corduroy Penn State cap at Harpers that I didn't see anywhere else. Had a new suit I need altered for a wedding the next week . Called Harpers at 9am, they were helpful and knowledgeable all the way through the process. From the first woman I spoke to the phone (Ray) through the tailor later that day, they didn't over promise, but gave me solutions and recommendations I could take. I brought my jacket to them and they said they can do the turn around I need, no issues. The owner was there as well and he gave me his recommendations on the fit as well, very unexpected as I hadn't gone through them for the suit. I will be back! read more

Nathan was very sweet and helped him through the whole process, as neither of us know much about suits. We bought a suit, shirt, tie, and pocket square from them for a great price. This place has really gone down hill. I use to love coming here to buy clothing for my husband, but lately they have let us down. I had my husband fitted for a suit for an engagement out of town. We had the suit fitted a few months in advanced because it was an important event. After getting his measurement done at Harpers, we waited a couple weeks for the suit to come in. The suit was way too big. Long story short, this happened a couple more times until the event was less than a week away. In a rush we had the final suit tailored by another person in town. It cost us an arm and a leg, but he looked good on stage at his talk. The younger staff seemed very helpful and competent. We worked with a confident woman around my age (50's), but she was anything but capable. She messed up our orders so many times, this is the only reason why I will never bring my family back. I believe her name was Kathleen, but I'm not sure. This is a real shame. This place use to be a wonderful piece of State College. read more

I went here all the time when I was a student and it was a little overpriced but still great. I was in State College for an afternoon and got a rather frantic email from a friend who was getting married and requested that I send over measurements ASAP for the wedding party suits. I thought of Harpers immediately and figured I'd pay them a few bones for the service. I met a nice lady who began helping me and she asked for all of the measurements I needed. She didn't know how to do all of them so she asked some boss man, with a ridiculous Kmart looking suit and greasy slicked backed hair, how to do 2 of the measurements. This guy refused to give measurements, was was incredibly rude about it, and basically walked away. The nice lady apologized and said she would give me my regular suit size and measure my neck but that's all she'd be allowed to do, as per her greasy boss. Needless to say I was in a jam and thought a local place I used to frequent would help me out for a small fee...I was wrong. I will not be coming back and not be recommending any currents/fellow alum to be going. read more

I really love the staff and atmosphere at Harper's. They're always very helpful and professional. Their brands and inventory are all quality fabrics, so theyre a little expensive, but well worth the cost. My only gripe is that I am a bigger guy and they didn't have any suits in my sizes at the store, but they did offer custom or order in options. read more

Mr. Vaughn at Harper's, along with the tailoring staff, provided invaluable customer service to me this past weekend. I required new dress shirts in under an hour. While an unusual and demanding request, Mr. Vaughn checked the inventory and set these items aside as I hurried to the store. The tailor had one shirt pressed for immediate use when I arrived. While I would not expect that any store would be able to accommodate such an 'emergency,' Harper's was able to do it and was more than happy to provide that service when many stores may not have. Particularly in the midst of graduation weekend, I can't thank Mr. Vaughn and the Harper's team enough for getting my weekend back on track.
