DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! I cannot emphasize this enough. If the store does not have enough money to buy product from customers, PLEASE make that clear via Social Media or your website so we don't need to waste our gas and time. I came in 2 days ago to actually shop for a pair of shorts. As I was checking out, I had asked a worker what they were looking for in terms of styles. I was told men's clothes (which I will mention was emphasized) and summer clothes. I came in today with items the worker had just described to me as needed (including Lulu Lemon, Urban Outfitters, and other "on trend" brands). They took 3 men's shirts that my boyfriend destroyed. I honestly was thinking those would be passed on. The other 4 bags worth of clothes I was told were "too worn" or "not what they're looking for". After leaving, I noticed my clothes were still folded the way I had before bringing them in. Not to mention they mixed up my bags with my mother's bags and told me that "ya that happens". The store itself is very organize & the staff has been helpful each time I was at the store. However, I have brought in things to be sold at this location & I noticed the bag seems to be completely untouched when I pick it up. The same clothes are, top-to-bottom, in the exact same order & folded the exact same way as I left them. An unfortunate waste of time in terms of selling. read more

I've never had a pleasant experience here. The concept is good in theory, but the execution is terrible. They overcharge in my opinion. They sell some stuff for the same price you could get it brand new. They never want to buy your clothes and claim bogus reasons. They'll say it's last season or too used while it still has the tags on it and you bought it a month ago. The resell target brands, but won't resell high end brands. It truly makes no sense and the staff members have no idea what they're doing. read more

Don't waste your time. I brought in 4 bags full of every brand they have listed to take on their website. They did not take a single item or offer a single dollar. I had several brand new condition Kate Spade purses & wallet. Brand new tags on it Lucky Brand shoes. 10+ pairs of name brand new Jeans purchased last year. Several pairs of new Abercrombie high waisted shorts. The worst part is when telling me why, she just read a monotone scripted piece of paper she read off & said "due to demand we can't take these items. We are looking for items like shoes and accessories." "We can't take anything due to the condition." I can understand them not taking my handful of flannels as to these are coming out of season. I read on another review that it didn't look like they went through the stuff based on it being stacked and folded the same exact way and I also experienced this. All of my bags were inside of each other the same way I left them & same with 2 of my other bags. I left so angry. I brought in two trash bags full. I had nice brands like Lululemon, athleta, Nike, and Levi, and they took almost none of it. I went in thinking this is definitely worth over $60 and they offered me only $13. They didn't even take any of my Lululemon and athleta. I then asked why and they said stains or wearing spots. I HAVEN'T EVEN WORN THEM. It was a waste of my time, if you can, go sell somewhere else. read more

The clothes they buy and sell are targeted toward juniors/teenagers/high-school students (according to the manager). Do not be surprised if they pass on your designer items because they may not be what this store considers cool to 14-18 year olds. This place allows you to bring in unlimited amount of clothes to sell. I brought in three large bags and it was an hour wait time to find out if they'd buy anything. They play cool early 2000 music like Smashing Pumpkins, Wallflowers, and Smashmouth. The racks are packed so it's hard to push the hangers aside to look at stuff. It is well organized however and easy to navigate the store. Their prices are fair. They sell a ton of workout clothes and sports bras compared to other used clothing stores I've seen. They won't take stuff that looks like professional wear. They buy based on the current season (winter clothes vs. summer clothes). They do not buy pajamas. I sold 4-5 items for $19 here. You have the option to get more money but in store credit if you decide not to do cash. read more

What a joke. They'll give you pennies for quality clothing and accessories. You might as well give them to friends or family or even Goodwill for that matter. It's insulting to get $1 for a nice pair of jeans Then, of course, if something wasn't bought last year they don't want it....but they have old stuff in there?? I love the concept of the store but having gone a few times, I have never had a great experience here. My wife who is light years ahead of me when it comes to knowing style, said we should bring in some of her stuff she doesn't wear anymore. The idea of earning some money back on some of the high end clothes she has but never wears seemed like a miracle to me. So she went into her wardrobe and found about a dozen items that were this years style and then some and we came to Plato's. We came to the front and were greeted but what seemed like a very uninterested employee. They took a quick look for damage and offered us 6$ for all of her clothes. Most of which cost between 50-80$ each! I totally get it. They need to make a profit and its a similar design to how a used video game store works. Yet this offer was beyond unreasonable. Maybe if we had been offered 6$ per item I would have been less salty. Heck even 3$ per Item! I decided the heck with it and we left. We donated to Salvation army and moved on. Granted we got 0$ from SA, we at least knew its for a better cause and SA isn't making monster profits on their clothes. read more

Meh not really feeling this place. I hate how the staff are basically judge jury and executioner when it comes to if your clothes are worth taking in. I came here with a lot of good stuff and since I know styles as it's my job to do so, I figured they snatch them up ASAP. Unfortunately the people I worked with don't know them...maybe they pick cloths that only they would wear and have no since of fashion. Anyways I don't need money so selling on eBay for a lot of profit is a waste of time but I am also cheap so giving fashion away for free I can't accept either. I figured I would come here. Get a few bucks and part with some high end clothing. Negative. I tried to even give them never before worn ultra boost from adidas and they turned that down. Having recently cleaned out my closet from clothes over the past year, I decided to inquire into Plato's Closet. I read mixed reviews on various blogs about the fact that the store is non-consistent nationwide, that those working the stores do not understand the actual current styles, etc. Yet, I decided to at least give it a go bringing in basics, t-shirts that were from Hollister, and trendier items such as bauble necklaces, longer dresses, etc. When I walked into the store, I immediately noticed that the store was several cycles of summer clothes behind. Not only were there things that I wore when I was in middle school, the overall appearance of the items was a turnoff. I took in three huge bags of my items, and was give only 7 dollars for a sweatshirt that cost originally 80 dollars. Now, I grew up in retail, and I understand deterioration and loss of value. But passing on designer jeans and items such as RL polos was nonsense. I was completely disappointed and would never go to a store such as this ever again. The huge bags found home at the Salvation Army- a much worthier cause. read more

Very pleasant place to do business ! Worked with jasmine for my transaction , she was wonderful . They were interested in most of my items and gave a decent price considering they were slightly worn . Would highly recommend . I live in Utica and we have a store in new Hartford . I really like shopping in this store and have many times. The staff is friendly and the store's clean. Everything is color-coordinated and pretty easy to sort through. They have a fair amount of designer items and lots of popular brands. I've sold clothes here too. They can be a little selective, but overall I really appreciate the staff taking time to look over clothes well so I know that I'm only looking through nice items when I'm shopping. read more
