I recently cleaned out my closet and took some clothes to Plato's Closet to see how the process worked. I wasn't expecting a big payout, but I was surprised to be offered only $9 for a pair of Miss Me jeans I'd only worn twice and still looked nearly new. They said some items weren't accepted because they were too worn or they already had a lot of similar stock that hadn't sold. To me, that felt off, considering I saw American Eagle jeans on the floor that were clearly much more worn. I'm sharing this for anyone who's thinking of making the trip--just keep your expectations in check! read more

Service was frustrating, I went to pay for my items and as the cashier was holding my money she said "there's a sale in a hour and a half you guys should have just waited, you could've saved a whole 40%" and then cashes me out. If you're going to tell someone about a sale you should let the customer in on it instead of being like , sorry bout your luck read more

They posted on Facebook that they were in need of plus size clothing and fall clothing. I had 3 bags of exactly that. When I brought it in, they only took in a shirt and a pair of sneakers... that the clothes I brought on were "not in style and they're very selective about the clothes they pick." Pretty disappointed with this Plato's location. I've used Plato's Closet many times in longview, mesquite, dallas and so on with no issues. I came in with one bag of items to hopefully sell. There were 4 workers in the store on a Sunday around lunch time and somehow it took about an hour and a half for them to get to my things. At the end of the sale, they tell you what they can purchase and what they will not. The worker was trying to explain why they didn't purchase all of my things and said "unfortunately some of your things were just basic." I will be using Poshmark in the future. The hassle of packing and shipping sounds a lot better than waiting an hour and a half to sell a handful of items for 20$..... read more

Came in today and was not greeted by any of the workers. I asked for a dressing room to which the worker (Shelby) made it seem like this was an issue and an annoyance to her. terrible service will never come back here again. I worked there for about three months and they treated me terribly the managers gossip about other employees behind their, very unprofessional in my eyes. When I worked there, I went to go donate my mother's clothes and she does smoke cigarettes and they smelled like cigarettes so I wasn't able to donate that. I took them back and didn't sell their understandable. Then a couple months after I left there I went to go donate some more clothes I sent my boyfriend in there to go sell the clothes for me because I don't want to speak to those people. They said they would not take the clothes because they had a sense of smell cigarette smell on. which is wrong because before I went to Plato's, we went uptown, cheapskate another place where you donate clothes and get money for them they took a few of my items did not complain about a cigarette smell whatsoever, but when I went to go take them to donate Plato's closet. They said they smelled cigarettes and would not take a single piece of clothing. they also threatened to give me a ride up when I work there because my ride waited in the parking lot for me and they said it was a distraction when he's waiting for me in the parking lot I don't know. read more

I will never shop at this store again. The item I was purchasing had a matching sticker and description on both pieces. When I got to the counter they said it wasn't the right price and wanted to charge me $15.00 more! You are legally obligated to charge the price shown. It is not my fault that your staff may have messed up. read more

This place was a waste of my time and drive to come here. The clothes/shoes on the rack had way more wear and tear to them than ANYTHING I brought in and they refused to take some of MY items because they had "blemishes" on them. These clothes I brought in were hardly worn if worn at all and did not have hardly any blemishes on them because I made sure of that. I've brought things to Platos Closet before and I'm aware of what they do and don't accept. They had nothing even close to what the items in store had on them. The staff just seemed super busy and overwhelmed and I think that's the reason they didn't want to look through or accept half the stuff I brought in. Which is fine, but I've had better service at other platos closets that I've donated too so I will not be back to this one. read more

For starters, the employees are VERY rude. they give judgemental looks when you come in, and are extremely picky with what they buy from you! You would think being picky would make the selection good, but no. lots of the clothes will have rips, stains, holes, etc. Why would i pay $12 for a shirt that is stained and has two holes in it?? Also on the topic of being picky, when i go in with my freshly washed clothes they like to give them back to me and tell me that they have a funky oder?? i'm not about to buy an expensive detergent just because this store doesn't like how my CLEAN clothes smell. also why are you sniffing my clothes? kinda creepy just sayin. Meh. I've come here less and less since they have moved so far out. I doubt I'll be in anymore. The clothes are worse and worse every time. Maybe people don't sale here anymore because there are so many other ways to make more money for their things. Or maybe they just figure the little bit of pocket change they get for selling isn't worth it and just donate? Either way there hasn't been anything worth coming in for in at least a year. Everything is either scuffed up, stretched out, faded, stained, or someone shrunk it lol it's kind of like when you look in your closet and say to yourself " why in the hell did I buy this it's so ugly" , this store is full of other peoples mistake purchases. Words can not explain how upset me and my boyfriend where that we had to wait 3 hours to hear something on clothes we brought in. When the machine said it was going to be a 1 and half hour wait. We got there at 3:30 and came back at 5:40 to look around and even bought a few things. Well my name was on the screen saying that I had one bin pending. So I just figured they where super busy and needed extra time. Well 6:40 rolled around so me and my boyfriend walked up to check out and they where explaining some of the exchange items... well the lady walks to get my exchange paper and says they're not taking any of the items which is fine but why did I have to wait 3 hours just to hear they weren't even going to take anything. They where also very unprofessional talking about how understaffed and stressed they where. Then talking about how the manager was going to yell at them and talking crap about the manager to other employees loud enough to where customers could hear them. I'm just gonna stick to Longview's Plato they are picky but atleast they give better customer service and don't just hold your items for 3 hours without telling you even when your standing there. That is what made up upset is that we had dinner plans and could not make them because we where told our wait would be 1 hour long when it turned into 3 because the employee did not click a button to let us know. The clothes at this plato's were nice and priced fairly, but they have almost no selection in larger sizes. Getting them to buy anything off of you was like an act of congress. Disappointed, I traveled 35 miles with 3 boxes of clothes. They only bought two items and I got 5.00. read more

I've tried taking things here 3 times and they just waste your time. The 1st time they told me it would be a 30min wait, ended up being a 4hour wait having to come back 4 times in one day wasting gas, then they said wouldn't take any of the clothes. I get home and look thru the bag and there are 4 pieces of clothes missing, they took them and didn't pay me for them... Go back the 2nd time and have a bag full a brand new purses, tags still on they only offer $14 for all 6 that are NWT tags are marked $40-$60... Go in today and they have the purses I sold them from $35-$50... While in today I also took in 2 huge bags full of barely worn clothes, over 75items mainly all hollister and american eagle, ect. They only accepted 7 of the items, when I asked why they didn't want any of the hollister ,A&f, or American Eagle jeans they said that they were too worn... The only thing remotely wrong with any of them were a few stings at the bottom from wear. Yet when you look at the clothes they have on the rack they are all worn more then what mine are and stained and ripped. They have stuff in there that is just filthy and disgusting looking for way over price. Most the stuff looks old and out dated and they want more for it then its worth. Save your money and go buy new clothes at Ross or hit up the clearance racks at the mall, you'll end up spending less for new clothes then buying used stained up grungy clothes here. The staff is always rude and have attitudes. After looking thru the clothes that they rejected today turns out that there's clothes missing that weren't in the clothes they accepted, this is twice now that they've taken clothes and didn't pay me for them. I'm done with this place, I recommend to all of you that you stay as far away from this shop as you can. read more
