My wife and I came to Wisconsin Dells to take the boat tour of the Upper Dells. We discovered that we had a flat tire in our new car (less than 800 miles) when we pulled into the parking lot. The attendant suggested Platt's Garage to repair the flat. They were called and plugged the tire and made a repair in very good time. The cost was $60 which I paid for in cash. However, I asked Ron IF I could return to the garage AFTER the boat tour and provide my credit card, get my cash returned, and receive a receipt. I was told that would be okay as I hustled off to the boat dock to catch the tour. Made it in time and was very pleased with the transaction made - Ron and Ryan did a superb job of coming to the parking lot and fixing my flat. However, upon the completion of the boat tour and locating Platt's Garage, we waited an inordinate amount of time in the office for anyone to arrive. Finally, a gentleman? from the back came whose name I believe was Marty. Saying that he was rude would be extremely kind. At first he refused to even consider exchanging the cash for the credit card. After a heated discussion, he informed me that he would do so ONLY after finishing his current job. He would finish that in "a couple of hours". My wife and I were on our way home to Chicago and could ill afford to wait that amount of time. There was no sign of either Ron or Ryan at the garage. I left the garage without my cash and without a receipt. The receipt would have been used to seek reimbursement from my car dealership. The bottom line is that the service provided to my vehicle was exemplary; the customer service was non-existent. Don't waste your time. read more

Our truck broke down trying to launch our boat. We have AAA and they listed Platt's as someone that was in their sub-contractors. When Platt's came they said they were NOT a part of AAA and strongly dislike them. They towed our truck to their garage (5 miles away). We walked to their garage to see what they found was wrong. They hadn't looked at it yet. When they did, they had to put our truck on a lift, then tow it back 200 ft to the parking area. My point is, they repeatedly asked 'where we were from'. The bill came to $263.00! Every Local person we told our story to said they are known for outrageous prices for people that weren't local!! I put the wrong gas in my car so the next day it broke down just a few blocks from platts. I told them I thought this was the issue. They picked it up. The next day I stopped by there because I needed a key that was on the keys I gave them. It was just parked outside. The guy working in the garage said he hadn't worked on my car yet. The next day I call and ask for an update. He said it was a computer issue that it needed to go to Toyota so I have them tow it there for $350 and Toyota just pumped the gas out. My son had been down at Bowman playing basketball with some buddies and some 12 year kid started driving our 4-wheeler without his permission. The police were called and the one police officer called me and asked if we could come down to get the 4-wheeler. Meanwhile, another female police officer (who I believe has a connection to the Platt's somehow) was dealing with the 12 year old. She has Platt's come to tow the 4-wheeler unbeknownst to the other officer. We get down there only to be told that the 4-wheeler was towed to Platt's and we need to get it from them. Drive a block away and the gate was shut and the guy said I need $200 cash right now or the price is higher if you have to come back tomorrow. We go get the cash and he damaged something on the 4-wheeler of course denying that he did anything wrong and was a complete asshole to us. He said I could be home in bed right now. We said do you think we're too happy about our 4-wheeler being towed a block for $200? I recently found out, legally they can't charge that amount for a vehicle less than 20,000 pounds. They are very crooked people and don't care about anyone, they just want to charge you lots of money! We tried to go after the 12 year old but they couldn't give us any information due to a minor! I got a flat tire on the highway 4 hours into a 9 hour road trip. After sitting on the side of the highway for an hour and a cop being unable to help change the tire, Platts came to towe the car and fix it. My friend and I were incredibly shaken up as it was dark and storming and we were in an unknown town, however, the couple was phenomenal at calming our nerves. They got my tire fixed up in no time and sent us on our way. Maybe they up-charged us, but we didn't care because they were so genuinely kind to us. My car stopped working due to a poor starter. Called them to see if they can check it out. They came and took my truck and told me they were going to call me once they figured out what was wrong with it. 1 hour passed by and no call until I called them back asking the status of my truck. They told me it was going to be ready in an hour and they were going to call me. No call back. Called them two hours after to check on my truck and told me it was ready. WHERE IS THE COMMUNICATION?!! They also mentioned they were going to pick me up to get to their auto shop after the truck was done, but then told me that they couldn't pick me up, and that I could find "many other taxis" that can drive me to their shop. I got to the shop via uber and everything was good except my car radio did not turn on anymore. It was working perfectly fine before they took it. I know they fucked something up. My dad had to check the whole car to figure out what was wrong with the audio system even though it was supposed to be their job. Hella pricey and rude as hell. My car died in the Dells and the authorities called Platt's. They towed me 20 miles to Mauston and demanded $250. I tried to explain to the driver that I was short on cash and had Amex, (which they don't take), and instead of listening to me he took off with my car back to the Dells leaving me and my 10 year old daughter stranded with none of our belongings or my daughters' meds. The next day they demanded $350 before they would allow me to get any of our things. Don't use these people ever for anything!! I wouldn't give these guys a star. First of all I was told they could bring my equipment to Madison that evening it was about 8:30. When they get all hooked up they said they would bring it in the morning this frustrated me as we are working nights. I said ok that's fine how much is the two he told me $600 thought it was a bit high but did have insurance and they said they could fix it so I thought ok I'll do that. When I spoke to my adjuster I told him I paid for the tow on my credit card he said ok they are showing it on the estimate also must be a mistake I said so I called Platt's and asked them they told me it was no mistake that I am being charged for two tows and started telling me all this stuff. Was supposed to get a plug when the employee came back he mentioned that I needed a new tire and gave me a price of $50 for it then when I went to go pay another guy said it's $80 for the taxes I'm from Chicago and I never knew that Wisconsin had higher taxes than us. AAA Platts Garage in Wisconsin Dells is the best. If you traveling on I 94 near the WI Dells and have any car, truck or trailer issues, AAA Platts will save the day. We had a bearing issue on boat trailer and no one would help except Platts who came out with a flat bed and brought our boat and trailer back to the repair shop. They solved the problem and even checked everything else on our boat trailer. We were back on the road to Northern Minnesota for a great vacation in the lake! Thank you Platts! I am a firm believer in good customer service breeding return customers. After my experience with Platt's, I will not ever be returning to them! They charged us $300 for a winching of 10 feet on our own property and then proceeded to be extremely rude and telling us "That's what it is". It was 20 minutes worth of work after showing up an hour after they told us they would! Another company that recommended them(due to that company being 30 miles north while Platt's is only 6 miles), would've charged us a third of that. Had we know, we would have gone with them. We told them of our experience with Platt's and they said they were not going to be referring them any more customers. We asked what they would have done if we didn't have $300 and got the response that they would've taken our vehicle off our property and to their shop until we paid it. They said it happens all the time! To me, this is not a company looking for loyal returning customers but a company that is out to rob its customer for every penny they can! If 0 stars was an option I'd give it. These men who work here are incredibly unprofessional. I needed my car towed to them because it was smoking. When I went to go pay for the towing and to see what's wrong with it the man who looked at it wasn't in. The men at the desk were so rude. When one of the them called the person who looked at it he stated "what's wrong with that fusion I have a lady in here speaking Chinese to me." Instantly gave me an ick feeling. I asked the man I spoke on the phone with to please write what's going on and their findings for me and he said he would. These same two men threw the biggest fit when I asked them about it. I demanded that they write something up for me so I could have my personal mechanic look at it since they claimed I needed a whole new engine and that I could drive it to the ford dealership because it needs a new engine anyway. Mike wrote up what they suspected and angrily slammed it on the counter and gave me a horrible attitude. I told them I couldn't get it out of there until Wednesday this all was Monday. Fast forward to Wednesday. I went to their shop to get my keys, and no one was there. There site claimed they were open and the doors were locked lights off. My husband and I both called, no one answered my husband. I called and got about 30 seconds into the call and he hung up on me. I stated on the call that I was there and needed my car key and no one was in the office. My husband called once more and no pick up. My father-in-law called off of his phone and they immediately answered. They said they were on their way back. About a half hour later they all pulled up to the garage with everyone in one vehicle. My husband went into get my key and they said to him "the woman who was in here bitching at me has it, we don't have her key." (Meaning me) And mike would have been the one to say this. And they stated it might be in the car. So I go over to my car and get into it press the start button. If the key was in it, it would have started. It did not start and stated no key detected. So my husband goes back in the office and tells them the key isn't in the car. They proceeded to insist that I had the key. My husband then told them that no, if we had the key why would we have called you. So they look for about 5 minutes and low and behold it's in their shop. Slams my key down and sits back down. My husband and I then towed it to ford where they told me I don't need a new engine. And that my oil change I had done what was making my car smoke for excessive oil and it had about 7+ quarts total. And I in fact didn't need a new engine and there wasn't coolant in mixed with my oil like Platts said. I honestly have never had such an unpleasant experience with someone before. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE VIDEO if you come to the Dells and end up with the misfortune of interacting with these clowns. Unfortunately many will come to these reviews after the fact. This business and the individuals that run this business are known in this area for their tendency for illegally doubling if not more, the fee they demand for vehicles they tow and/or "legally" steal, from both residents and out-of-towners alike. There is refusal to provide any invoicing and also refusal of anything but cash, so I wonder if tax fraud is also part of the equation. Mark Platt did it to me, demanding $300 literally 20 minutes after my vehicle was towed roughly 2 miles. Of course I don't unfortunately have video of the interaction, these types of people in Wisconsin fortunately are the exception not the norm - but I am finding that the commentary, and experiences of others in this community to be similar if not generally the same in nature, they are well known for their awful or utterly nonexistent customer service, belligerent nature and scummy if not outright illegal business practices. They were great at getting my vehicle and replacing the alternator it in a timely manner. However on my trip home started hearing a noise, when stopped to see what was going on noticed there wasn't power steering fluid in the reservoir and coolant was low. I now have to replace my power steering pump because they didn't top off the fluids after replacing the reservoirs. When I spoke to them they told me they didn't touch the reservoirs and that they went through the bottom to get to the alternator. So that means they would've had to lower the sub frame, remove the ac compressor then do an alignment when done which seems like alot to do instead of removing the reservoirs and putting them back. Also weird considering my oil was just changed a few weeks ago and I checked my fluids before going in the trip, have never had any leaks or problems with either. read more

This mechanic shop is a joke! Shady business practices! Avoid at all costs! The short story? I live out of state and had body and other repair work done here after hitting a deer. Upon picking up my vehicle and giving them almost $4500 I noticed MANY shoddy repairs done to the exterior of my vehicle. I pointed this out before leaving and was completely blown off. Upon closer inspection (back in my home state) I noticed that the paint job was terrible and there was still deer hair (painted blue) in my vehicle trim! Two local estimates to fix the problems that Platt's created were for $2000 and $5000!! I tried in vain for 5 months to deal with them personally to get this resolved. Mark Platt was combative and rude to me during my dealings all while denying that they had done anything wrong. I tried working with them to resolve this to no avail. I had a lawyer contact them asking to resolve my issues and was ignored. So, I went to the Better Business Bureau and the Wisconsin Department of Consumer Protection. Only THEN did I get what was owed to me, a check to right the wrongs they had created. They were paid to replace my bumper and trim among other things. They REPAIRED my bumper and took the money! I still have the factory bumper to prove it wasn't replaced. There was dirt under the paint they applied and after one winter it had begun to chip and the metal of the hood was visible. The local shop that repainted my vehicle said, "I've had guys straight out of school paint better than this the first time holding a paint gun in their hand." And, "It looks like it was painted on a dirt floor!" I don't know if Platt's just expected me to roll over and take this kind of mistreatment. If they expect customers to just take this type of scam they have another thing coming. I can't believe they're still in business after witnessing deceptive and illegal practices like this. My friend and I were in his car and his top passenger tire had just blown off while we were on the highway. So the next day my friend and I called Pratt's Garage and asked for how much the tire labor would cost and whether they also offered tires or not. They answered to him about the labor but they said "we'll look at what you got" as an answer to if they offered tires. He tried to inquire for further information such as the cost of the tires at which point they hung up on him. We called them back and told them that hanging up on customers is poor customer service and the owner replied back with "Go back to where you came from" and started cussing. They came and looked at it said it was a timing chain and they wouldn't get to it till tomorrow, I said ok and they came and got it.. They towed me 8 maybe 9 miles when I got stuck in the snow. They charged me $350.62. Tried to use my card but they said I could only pay in cash. Went to an atm. Gave them 400. Then they tell me to pay in exact cash. I go to the gas station buy a pack of gum just to make exact cash. I come back and we get into a heated discussion involving police. I found myself filing a complaint to police involving the situation. They said "Nothing can be done. Sounds like they ripped you off". Bottom line, They robbed me of exact cash when they had a working credit card scanner and inconvenienced me and scarfed down several hours of my time and made me late for work. Never go here. If I could give this enis 0 stars I would. Go somewhere else. When called they said 15 min which turned into 45 which is not a big deal unless you're 5 min away on a 95 deg day. No personality or compassion when arrived ice cold and arrogant hooked up a jump pack and got lucky cuz the car started. Trouble guessed and said I had a dead battery and charged me 60$ for a jump. Turns out there was nothing wrong with my battery but an issue with the security lock out system. Don't troubleguess troubleshoot or shut up and say you don't know. Cost me 140$ for a new battery that I didn't even have to replace. I have family in the Dells they will all go somewhere else before calling these hacks. read more

Friday night I hit a racoon a few miles outside the Dells on interstate 90. When we arrived at our property the radiator was leaking horrible. Saturday morning we start looking for auto repair places in phone books and asking our neighbors about shops they used. We decided to go to platts as it was nearby, not by a reccemondation. They took the car immediately. It took a while to get done but for reason. As it was a Saturday afternoon and Sunday was father's day, and I have a 2016 the radiators aren't just at a NAPA in stock all the time. Of course, if you would like someone to care about your vehicle, your situation, and your ability to plan...I'd call someone else. The guy that identified himself as Mark told be to "lay the f*** down and shut the f*** up and to call back at 9:00 am". Why? Because 27 hours earlier Platt's was called to flat bed a car to a dealership in Madison. Throughout the day they kept saying it was en route to Madison, but there was no notification from the dealer or Platt's that it had arrived. I called at 10:30 pm to find out the status and "Mark" was either drunk or high based on the way he spoke. According to him, there was no one he could call on a Friday night to ask if out car had been delivered. It's Wisconsin Dells...how many people could work there? You'd think a single call would reach someone who knows if they drove a big flat bed to Madison and dropped of a car...maybe I am expecting too much... The next day: I spoke with Mark who sounded more sober but still rude. The charged us $300.00 to flat bed our car 10 miles. When I told him I wanted him to park the car outside and lock the key in it so that another tow company could pick it up, he hung up. We arrived at Platt's WITH a police officer to ensure that we could get our property back. Mark is the owner. If you really think a guy like that should make a cent off of people after he treats them like crap, use them. If you think they should be thankful for your business, call someone else. read more

I drive a large pickup truck and had it towed from near 94. When I called they assured me they could help me and sent a truck that took near an hour over schedule to arrive. They sent a dually pickup that was smaller than mine and proceeded to not tie down the wheels to the tow truck so when we went up a hill my truck literally fell off the towtruck. The tow truck driver saw no problem with dropping my truck off his in park. They then proceeded to overcharge me and left me at a sketchy motel while they did a simple repair for days. Shady business. I was on a vacation at Wis Dells and my car went down the ditch. The police called them over to tow it away. I talked to them and they said the fee was gonna be $150. I came back later to pick the car up and they billed me $300!! When I asked why did they say it was only gonna be $150, the guy said he thought it was a different vehicle. Even so, why is there such a big difference? My car was a small Beetle and it didn't even go that far down the ditch! A few weeks ago, my boyfriends car broke down on a family vacation. With the nearest auto repair being Platt's garage, we had it towed on a Sunday and spent the night down the road. The next morning, I called half an hour before they opened just to make an appointment and was told to call back in an hour- after they were open, with no appointment made. We walked over at 8 sharp and were greeted by no one. Most workers we approached looked down at their feet when we tried to be friendly and make conversation and it took a good half hour before anyone told us they would try to get to it, but only after lunchtime. Walking back around 11 when we had to be out of our hotel room, it still hadn't been looked at and only when we walked in to the office, did someone make an attempt to move it. A few workers "analyzed" the car, made a call on it being the exhaust and basically told us we were out of luck. They couldn't fix it, they couldn't get the parts, and if they did, it wouldn't be cheap. With their own towing service on the property, they left us to find another tow through insurance and we were lugged 2 hours back home to Milwaukee. Getting the car re-evaluated at home, it turned out not to be the exhaust at all. For a small family run business, it seemed like they didn't want our services at all. Much like many others, I was stranded in the Dells for a family trip when I had car problems - Platt's was close, and said they could take the car so I went for it. I was very clear that we were only in town briefly and leaving that evening - dropped the car off at 9am. Called the company at 11am and 2pm - both times was told 'call back later' and then hung up on. Finally, around 330pm I got a call saying that the repair was not possible and I should sell the car for junk - WHAT!?! Now stranded in Wisc Dells, I took a leap of faith to drive the car back to MKE where my usual mechanic (thank you, RK Motors!) saw me the next day and fixed everything for an incredibly reasonable rate. Unfixable my back side!!!! I should have known after I got no communication AND was hung up on twice - junkie place! I even asked when they were closing so I would know when to leave the waterpark to get my car - he said 'probably around 5pm but I will leave the keys in the car'. I may not be from Wisc Dells, but I prefer for my car not to be left outside with the KEYS IN THE IGNITION, thank you very much!!!! Please do not use this company - terrible! read more
