I first read about Play 18 in an Urban Daddy publication. What an amazing find. I went yesterday for the first time and to say that I am impressed is understatement. Scott (Pro) is not only extremely personable but he really knows his stuff. I wanted to practice after missing 2 seasons of play due to shoulder injury. Needless to say once in the simulator clearly I needed to find my game again. :-) Scott had me back in the saddle within 10 mins. I have never hit an iron better in 10 years of golf than the 10 mins I spent with Scott. I rarely give 5 stars after a first experience -- but this one is well-deserved. The facility has a first-class country club feel. The level of customer service at this place rivals some of the top private country clubs in the country. I have an executive membership at TopGolfUSA and as much as I like the folks over there I have to say for someone looking for "the best" coaching Play18 would be my recommendation. read more

Adding to the other 5 star reviews...this place is a hidden gem in the city. The staff there is chill, customer service savvy and just are nice folks. The facility is awesome. They have a bunch of bays with virtual golf and couches, tables, pool table, bocce, corn hole...full bar and then food from the Tilted Kilt one level down. Came here for a work outing, thanks to a coworker who read about it on an UrbanDaddy email. Concept sounded great so we booked a reso. So glad we came here. Walking in, we were surprised by how nice it looked inside, like a nice brand new private club, with dark woods, comfortable leather chairs, and a nice bar. We hit the bar for a few drinks, with plenty of great choices (Jameson, Ketel, Patron, domestic & import beers), then owner John took us through the instructions. A few of us were going to play a full round, while the majority wanted to just practice on the driving range. Not having swung a golf club in 10+ years, I was reluctant to play a full round, but it ended up being a lot of fun. It's like an Xbox Kinect, but you use actual clubs and golf balls for the entire game, from driving to putting. It was surprisingly fun to hit a golf ball at full speed towards a projector screen in the middle of an indoor establishment and see it replicated on screen. And there's tons of courses to choose from, which are all astonishingly realistic. While we weren't all that great, constantly landing in sand traps and off to the trees, it was still a lot of fun. There were nice options in the game that let us mulligan (which we used PLENTY), "gimme" a hole if you got within X feet of the cup, and took players out for the hole if they took more than X shots. John patiently took us through all the options while two guys in our group bickered, since they were wagering petty cash. The majority of the team was having a blast at the "driving range" and putting. And John was getting us all drinks with heavy pours, so it was a good time had by all, even for spectators. The $50 an hour is pretty reasonable if you're with a small group, especially if you consider the novelty of the concept and your other alternatives (bowling? ugh). Perfect for work outings and vendor events, even if your group isn't all experts in golf, and it's super convenient to those working near the loop. Also great for those who want to practice before an actual course or when the weather sucks. (We do live in Chicago, right?) Highly recommended! read more

Hours of operation (9am-9pm) falsely advertised. Wasted time and money to get there at noon, sit around in the lobby for 45 minutes, and eventually give up. If it is by appointment only, say that. Listen...I've been here 5 times. The sim set up is really nice. But the management is terrible. Today we showed up for our 12:00 reservation (prepaid) and nobody was there...I called a few times and it rang to VM. Then I tried again a few minutes later and it went straight to VM like they turned their phone off. Bottom line, if they are there and open it's a pretty cool spot. Just don't count on it read more

Play 18 is a great facility for golfers in downtown Chicago. If you can't get out of town to play or the weather is unfavorable, book one of the simulators (see pictures here on Yelp) on which you can tee it up on with your friends. There's lots of comfortable seating while you wait for your shot, a well stocked bar to refuel at and plenty of flat screen TVs around to distract you from your bad shots. Bays are also available if you can't make it to a driving range which is great. Speaking of bad play, lessons with Dave & Randy at Play 18 are priceless. Not only are they equipped with helpful video technology and swing robots (only a couple of these exist on earth), but they are super friendly and speak to you in simple, easy to follow ways. As other Yelp reviews have stated, since I started working with Dave I have added significant yardage & increased my accuracy with every club in my bag. Go try them out and stop hacking your way around the golf course, son! read more

Play 18 Chicago is a golfer's dream in the middle of downtown Chicago! As you can see from the pictures, the place is really beautifully set up. I went there for a lesson, and met both Scot and Dave. Dave was helping me out with the lesson, and showed me some really great drills which had me making much better contact with the ball (and hitting it 15 yards further!) than I did when I came in. The great thing is that the tips they give you are really more than just tips, they are memory building drills that really get you used to how you should feel when you hit the golf ball. And we all know that golf is about feel and muscle memory! Not to mention the cool robot they have there that will teach you exactly what a golf swing should feel like. Oh, and the video taping and slow motion play back is extremely helpful as well! They have a really great set up. Hitting bays with special sensors that tell you everything from ball flight, carry yardage, total yardage, and even spin rate! Then there are other hitting bays which have actually golf courses that you can play! There is a bar, pool table, lounge chairs, and even lockers for members to store their clubs in. Really, really nice. I can tell this place is going to come in handy, especially on those cold winter nights and hot summer days. Looking forward to improving my game! read more

Simulators are awesome. Went recently for a few hours of practice in their hitting bays. Decent price for two hours of essentially all you can hit. Computers will give you all the info you need as an amateur. I was able to up my spin rate considerably on the forgiving hitting mats. Food from downstairs and drinks to order. Had my bachelor party here in August '12 and it was a blast. Planning was fairly easy since they have group packages which are very reasonably priced and easy to customize working with their event planner Nikol. The layout is impressive and a haven for anyone who likes golf to people who are obsessed (as some of my buddies were). The spacious layout, full bar, attentive service was top notch and although it took a good 20 minutes to get our round of golf set up due to some technical difficulties, the staff was friendly and patient with us and made for a memorable experience. My wife is actually hosting an event entertaining some clients this week after she heard of our good time. I would recommend it for any work, group outing/, guys night out and will definitely be back for some simulator action to get my winter golf fix. read more

golf widow - a wife who is left alone much of the time because her husband is playing golf This pretty accurately sums up my situation. I should be mad at Play 18 because now during the winter, when my husband wouldn't be able to play golf and he would be forced to spend time with me (JK), he can play golf indoors. But this place is pretty awesome and the guys who work here are so nice, so I actually don't mind. At least here, I can go with him, hang out in some nice leather chairs, order wine and food, and even take a few swings on the simulator while they are playing some of the best courses in the world. I've only been a couple of times, but my guys friends go fairly often now. All of our friends have a really fun time here, those golfing and those just hanging out. as other reviews have mentioned, there's also billiards and they have a bar, or they can have the waitresses from downstairs (Tilted Kilt - who cares. Some wives/girlfriends don't approve but it's not a big deal to me) bring food or drinks up to you. I didn't give them the 5 star rating just because I don't golf very much, so honestly I can't say it's my favorite place in the world, but it is a relaxing place to hang out - super clean with nice furniture and very hospitable service. I've been twice. This place is great. It feels like an exclusive country club. Huge leather seats, great bar, nice pool table. Best of all is Sam the attendant. I have been a regular at Play 18 since it opened only a few months ago. The facility is amazing with several hitting bays, 2 PGA simulators, full bar, leather couches, pool table, etc. I highy recommend coming in on a Sat afternoon with some freinds to play the simuator and drink some beers. It's a great time, with friendly service and reasonable pricing. I am also a big fan of the resident pro Scot Nei. For those looking to improve their game this winter you won't find a better teacher. I have taken 3 lessons and I am already seeing HUGE improvement. Part of my lesson plan incudes a swing robot that Play 18 has invested in. Basically, the robot is used to help you feel the correct swing path as opposed to just "hearing" it from your teacher. Makes a big difference and is worth the money. After my second robot session I was adding 20 yards to my irons. Before I started with Scot I had taken 8 lessons from Golftec. During my two months at GolfTec I had 3 different teachers becuase my instructors kept quitting. Each GolfTec teacher had me swinging a bit differently and I was not making any real progress. If you are looking for lessons don't even think twice about it: call Scot and you won't be dissapointed. This is my first review of anything ever, but Play18 is a great spot and I'd like to see more golfers give it a try. read more

I play a round every week at Play18 to keep my game sharp for the summer months. The facilities are second to none. They have 4 About Golf simulators. If you have not heard about them, they are endorsed by the PGA Tour. Unbelievable how accurate they are! If you fly a 9 iron 130 yards outside, no different at Play18. I was invited to a surprise b-day party here last night. Showed up and heard that the manager double booked the room and we were getting kicked out at 8pm for a bigger party. I couldn't believe it. The staff were really rude about it and walked around telling people, "well hope you had a great time now you need to leave". They were not apologetic at all. I felt really bad for the person who hosted it -- a lot of the guests had kids and were from the suburbs so instead of having a fun night playing pool and golf they had to go back home within an hour. I understand that mistakes happen but this was really ridiculous. It would have been better if the manager didn't try and joke around about it and act like it wasn't a big deal or that it wasn't his fault. read more

I have wanted to check this place out since it opened. I met friends yesterday and we played 18 holes in the simulator. It was much more realistic than any other simulator I have ever tried. They even have a "rough" patch of artificial grass in each simulator for hitting realistic shots out of the rough. John helped us out and he took time to help us learn how to get the most out of our experience. And although you pay by the hour, he did not start the clock until after he gave us time to get adjusted. We will definitely go back again soon. read more

This is a really cool place. We had a tee time at an outdoor golf course but the weather didn't cooperate so we had to cancel. A buddy and I decided to try this out because we were still in the golfing mood and it turned out to be a really good idea. The golf simulator actually allows you to play a whole 18 holes at full swing so its great to play on days with bad weather or even to keep yourself from getting rusty over the winter. John (the owner) was very helpful and the place has a classy set up with a bar, leather chairs, pool table, flat screens , etc. It's the perfect place to stay in the game with a round of golf, but is also an ideal scene for a private party as well. Just finished my lesson with Luke. First class individual and a once-in-a-lifetime experience! The TourBound golf robot really adjusts you to have a more ideal swing. As someone new the game, Luke was able to quickly identify my numerous swing faults. He then had me take swings with the robot and had me focus on reducing my sway, rotating my hips and creating more lag. All of this led to a swing that was on plane. While I clearly have more things in my swing to work on, I feel I have a more ideal picture in my mind of that swing should look and feel like. The facility itself is immaculate. Leather theater-style seating throughout, bar and pool table. It's just a relaxing place to really focus on improving your swing, hit a few or play a full round. Luke is a fantastic trainer & you should definitely book a lesson with him. I will definitely be back for another lesson when I'm in the area! Thanks Play 18 Chicago for a tremendous time! read more

I can not begin to express my enthusiasm and excitement in writing this review. I have never been so eager to write a positive review. Hands down the best service from any facility. John went above and beyond to accommodate us in our bachelor party festivities. We got rained out of playing a course outside and instead got to play Pebble Beach and be treated like royalty in an indoor country club atmosphere. The facility is truly an amazing hidden gem, complete with locker rooms, full bar (although they did not have their liquor license during our visit since they are still in a soft-opening), pool table, driving bays and of course a state of the art true to life simulator. As nice as the facility was, what set this place apart from any other indoor golf facility was the service. He gave a wonderful unscripted introduction of the facility and instruction of the simulator. The type of attention you'd imagine you'd receive if you were a member of Augusta National. Even going so far as to offer friendly pointers and advice to my less experienced cousin on his swing. John is probably one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and I am honored to be the first one to give this place a review, which I am sure I will not be the last.
