I went in and asked for a pixie, stylist decided that a pixie wasn't feminine enough and cut my hair by my shoulders. I repeated I wanted a pixie cut and she asked her manager/owner what she should do... Owner said to give me what I wanted, I provided a picture it was a mushroom cut pixie with long bangs and a medium short back. She never used clippers just hacked at it with scissors, completely cut my bangs and left one side of my hair longer than the rest. I started crying and she went away and I still had to pay for that horrible job on my long hair. I also reached out to the owner on Instagram about what happened and she replied back about a month later with no apology or sense of empathy. read more

Just moved here to Sonoma County from Phoenix and was in a desperate need of a cut and color! My hair had faded and become brassy and my ends were dead. I called for a same day appointment and spoke with her owner Geri. She was so kind and was able to squeeze me in with Kelly. I have always been apprehensive when switching salons and was experiencing anxiousness but Geri seemed so welcoming which calmed me a bit. She said Kelly was a peach and that I would love her and she was so right! The salon itself is adorable and I was in love with it as soon as I walked in! What an AWESOME find! I was fortunate to schedule a very last minute appointment this Saturday with Geri, the salon owner. Getting ready to head out of town for the week & realizing my grays were really bad, I called several salons who couldn't take me same day. I wasn't surprised, it was Sat at 11am, I figured that would happen. But Luck was on my side when I called Play Hair Studio, which had great reviews and was a Salon I had seen dozens of times in the Bel Aire plaza, by the old Orchard & next to World Market. Geri was super nice on the phone and she must have sensed my desperation bc while she didn't have any openings, she said she'd make it work for me and to come by in the afternoon! The place is really cute & has a great 'homey' feel, like the 'Cheers' of hair salons! Geri was super nice and made me feel at ease. She asked me what I wanted and gave me some ideas on 'punching' up my color and giving me a bit of 'pizzazz'! Trusting her immediately, I said 'Sure!' When it came time for the haircut, Geri really seemed to 'get' my hair and when I told her I wanted long bangs and 'some sexy movement', she knew exactly what to do. She really knows hair & more than that, in even the short time together, I feel like she knew me! For women, there's few things that can transform us immediately to make us feel 'whole' again. A good hairstyle & color can certainly do that. If even for just a little while, being able to look in the mirror and see yourself differently, better, is a gift that only a very talented stylist can deliver & Geri is certainly that! My hair looked amazing, which brought a huge smile to my face, which certainly brings a whole new outlook to things! I'm so glad that Geri made the time for me. This was literally the worst experience I've had in a salon. I was in town for my engagement shoot I had coming up in a couple of days. I called to get a men's haircut and eyebrows waxed and was serviced by T***. My haircut just came out bad as if she took this up as a hobby for extra money on the side. My cut was uneven in places and since my hair is short to begin with, is not like I can get it fixed. One of my brows are messed up as it's noticeably thinner than the other. Besides that, she was rough throughout the service. I found myself flinching by the time we got to waxing my brows. She told it off by getting hot wax down the side of my face. She tried to make up for it by charging me a lesser amount than quoted noting that she did get wax all over me. However, what do you do? I'm a nice guy, so I tipped her and left. If I were her, I wouldn't have charged at all. I feel like the 5 star reviews are from people who have followed some of their other hair stylists over a longer period of time. But for visitors or first timers, get a recommendation or stay away from T***. I recommend that the business owner set some standards and look over the job of their designers from time to time to ensure equal quality in services provided. I would've never had someone working for me perform like that and charge patrons money for it, especially in Napa Valley. read more

I was told by the owner Jeri to come in right away even though their scheduled time to close was 7pm. I worried that she would rush to get my hair fixed within that time. Hands down you must go to Kelly! A coworker of mine has the best hair and she recommended seeing Kelly. Her hair cut changed the body and texture of my hair- now it's so much fuller and doesn't feel as flat. I love that she listens to what you want but also gives an opinion based on her experience to be realistic (like when I wanted to go bright blonde to darker brunette-- she suggested low lights to give the effect without damaging and dyeing my entire head). Two words for the Mexican gal with thick coarse hair who wants to go lighter and have a decent cut... MARIA MONTENEGRO! I had paid $185 for a celebrity haircut from the owner of barrow salon in SF. After that crazy hack job, I went to Maria who was referred to me by a friend. Maria helped even out the mess that had been done by the celebrity hair stylist. She helped me with fixing my hair and had told me everything she was doing and why she was cutting here and sectioning there. I was scared and suffered PTSD from all my other disastrous hair nightmares. I have gone to her again and will be forever Maria's! So if you have thick unruly hair go to Maria! She also did my color and it didn't turn out orange (latinas tend to pull red so when they lighten their hair it's more orange than blond). I originally found Geri by researching the highest reviewed hairdressers in Napa. At the time, she was working at Studio B (check out the Yelp reviews to see all the rave reviews/references to Geri). In addition to the outstanding reviews, she had also posted many pics of her work (hair color/highlights/cuts) which gave me great confidence to jump ship with my hairdresser of 15+ years and give her a try. I did not regret it. One of the things I liked the most when I first saw Geri was that she took time to get a sense of my personality as well as what look I desired. She showed me random pictures online of different colors/cuts and asked me what my reaction was to get a sense of what I liked/disliked. It was clear that her goal was to give me exactly what I wanted. She did not disappoint. I have been going to Geri now for about a year now and I couldn't be happier with my hair and the service I receive. She is always warm, inviting and attentive to my requests. The cozy attic's ambient light from the huge skylight, floor to ceiling windows, sheers, dark floor and stylish coordinated furniture all contribute to the special feeling. I've just recently started going to play hair studio to help me get my hair fixed from being totally ruined and let me say they are miracle workers! I was trying out some new salons and I went to someone who died my hair purple so in a panic I went to play hair studio and asked if they could fix it. After hours of crying and feeling like I'm gonna lose all my long beautiful blonde hair Trena Harris totally fixed my hair. And by this time you would think I would learn my lesson but no I went to Another salon in Napa and they messed up my hair again. So in a panic once more I asked to go to play hair studio and set my appointment and once again they fixed it and it looks gorgeous. The lady that fixed my hair the second time was named Maria.
