I've patronized a few Play It Again Sports in two other areas of the country, and I can say without reservation this is both the biggest/best stocked store I've been in, and they had the best staff of any PIAS I've been to. They are loaded for bear right now with winter stock - vast arrays of skates, hockey gear, skis, snowboards, and accessories. They tend at this location to stock ONLY what is demanded for the season, so if you're selling something from an off-season or are looking for a bargain tennis racket in November, you will be disappointed. They do full-season rentals on equipment, which seems to me like a great way to wade into a new sport. Their buyback scheme is as follows: when you bring a used item in, they will price it. If you leave it on consignment to sell, you will get 50% of the price, when it sells. If you want to take trade-in credit right away, you get 40% of the value. If you want to get cash on the nose right away, you get 30% of the value. I looked at the range of conditions and availability for skates (which we were shopping for today) and the price range seemed quite decent for what they had. I waited for our skates to be sharpened, and observed them helping some skiing and snowboarding customers and handling a buy-back transaction, and they seemed very thorough, professional, and knowledgeable. The used prices aren't ultrabargains, but it's difficult to really find a specialty store that deals with used goods. You have your thrift stores, used car dealers, and other than that you're left with Craigslist and garage sales for the most part. So I think this is a pretty good niche, and for the ever-growing and changing-of-interest kids, a great great resource. They'll have to wow me on repeat visits for me to get up to the lofty five stars, but a promising four stars for now. read more

Then they pretended to do something while they stared at me... feeling that uncomfortable so I could save 10% on a golf club that looks like it was eight years old? Yeah, no thanks. We went in looking for XC ski boots. Three clerks working at the counter could not be bothered to help. My husband asked if they carried boots that had the old style of bindings . They replied "anything with 75mm on a green label". They did not offer to come help us. We looked at those boots and found all the sizes were European . Not knowing what size he wore in European we looked around for a conversation chart and did not find one. Again no one came to offer help. Finally googled a conversion chart. We spent another 15 minutes in the store looking at boots and wandering around but no one once asked if we needed help finding anything. The three men hadn't moved from their chat session as we left the store. Would never return. read more

Yesterday was my second trip to play it again sports in the past two years. I decided to go there to look for softball equipment for my nine-year-old who's going to start to play softball again this year. For the second time going into this establishment, there were three gentlemen, that could have cared less to give any customer service. When I approached the desk and asked one of the clerks, can you please show me fielding masks he pointed to where they were located. Also, I let him as I'm going to need help with trying to decipher size my nine-year-old hand is for a glove. He goes with the gloves are right over there. That's not what I had asked him. I had asked him for help as an employee played again sports. I was shocked at his rudeness. he looked at my daughter's hand and said try a 10.5 size glove. Not knowing anything about this, he walked away, and I proceeded to look at the wall. When I approached another associate and asked him, how will I know if the youth Fielding mask that will fit my daughter. His response was well it's youth. I asked him if we could please take it out of the packaging because the last time I had her trying on one that was a youth it did not fit. He acted completely exasperated, that I had asked him to do this task. I'm sorry that I took him away from whatever he was standing there behind the desk doing, which was clearly nothing. As I tried the mask on her, he proceeded to try to tighten straps. I attempted to do this I was unable to do this. Again, asking to play it again sports associate. If you could, please help me he acted put out once again. Once I showed him again that this was slipping off, he could've cared less once again. I decided to not purchase that mask from play it again sports. I was not the only mom that was in that store yesterday. I heard another Mother say boy they sure are helpful here not we will be going to Dick's. Where I also went to Dick's. Again, this was my second trip to play it again sports. I understand that sometimes maybe employees are in a bad mood. But considering this was the second time I was there and I was treated so poorly once again. I would advise no one to buy anything from the store. The manager of the store needs to look at getting people in there that are willing to help. Sorry their phones were more important. I usually get free rentals right down the street for kids 5 and under, but was too late this year. I then went to check out the ice skates because we have a back yard ice rink and like to have extra's $40/$45 for a pair of used skates! Besides the fact the store is a mess and good luck finding the size your looking for. with places like marketplace, this store won't stay open much longer. I left the store, sat in my car, found the ski's I was looking for in Marketplace and picked them up on my way home for $20! Won't visit this place ever again! read more

Checked there website and saw they accepted lacrosse gear all year long drove all the way down there to get a quote and was told we were in the winter season and we don't accept them. Went in there later in the year to look at some snowboards and asked the only employee working at the time a few questions he was completely delirious and did not know what he was talking about and asked him twice to help me but continued to stand behind the counter and play on his phone read more

I can quite honestly say I am very disappointed in my shopping experience at Play it Again. I've been to the store four times in the last six weeks in hopes to have one of the wonderful shopping experiences that I have been reading so much about. However, I have yet to have any of the employees be able to step away from their own personal conversations to be able to assist me. This was highly disappointing especially when I went to the store the first time looking to buy a new ski package for myself and not one employee was familiar enough with skis to intelligently help me narrow down what to buy. So unfortunately for you Play it Again Sports, my $700 sale went up the Northway to a competitor, where they were very eager to help me find the perfect fit for my ability. The second time I went back to the store I was looking to purchase a new or used snowboard for my daughter. I understand that it's mid season and the selection is low but again there was very little eagerness to help me in this transaction. Again left disappointed. I was really hoping that the third time would be a charm. After my daughter and I decided that she needed her own helmet for snowboarding, we went back to the store and again hoped that one of the employees would be able to assist in finding the right size for her head as I do not often carry a measuring tape in my pocket. We spent the greater part of an hour trying on the very wide selection of helmets & disappointingly not one staff member offered to help she nor I with assisting for the perfect fit & yet again my sale went elsewhere. Maybe the fourth time will be a charm I thought to myself, perhaps the high school age employees will all be in school and an adult will be there and willing to help me purchase a new ski helmet. I should have learned my lesson. There are hundreds of helmets at the store which is wonderful if you know exactly what you're looking for and the size that is best. By no means do all helmets fit the same even if they are the same size. I walked out of the store purchasing what seemed to feel good on my head and when I got home and finally just had found that it was actually too large. I packed up the helmet & brought it back to the store the next day. Unfortunately i was not asked if they could help me find a new one that fit better, just took the returned & told to have a nice day. That was the perfect opportunity for the store to redeem it self for me & again the staff member could have cared less about helping me or making a new sale/exchange. I wanted to love the store. I like the idea of being able to trade in old equipment and get new equipment all in the same place and shopping local. However, the customer service standards here were essentially nonexistent & unfortunately I won't be giving them a 5th opportunity to correct this. Customer service means the world to me and I constantly refer people to a business that I felt went out of their way to create a Raving Fan. Every opportunity that I gave the employees here to help me they failed, to me that is bad business, especially when you have a customer who is looking to outfit herself and her children with new ski and snowboard equipment. My advice for future shoppers of this establishment is, if you know exactly what you want and the store carries it you will be fine. However if you are going in open minded and with a desire for a staff member to cater to you & truly make a lasting impression on your shopping experience this is definitely not what I'd recommend at all. read more

DO NOT GET YOUR EQUIPMENT SERVICED HERE! I dropped off my snowboard here to get a basic waxing and sharpening done. There was also a core shot that had to be filled in. I go to pick it up a week later and it looked terrible. There was wax shavings still all over the base and my bindings. The spot where he petexed looked like garbage with how much carbon deposits he dropped into it. The waxing was ruff, quick, and not very good. He didn't even rub it down with a scotch brite pad. Overall, I worked at a rental shop and we serviced our rental equipment better than this guy does with people's personal equipment. The store does have a nice selection of used and new skiing and snowboarding equipment as well as boots bindings and helmets. read more

i am a bit torn between 3 and 4 stars but i am going to stick with 3 for several reasons. we came here last night to trade in kenz's old board and bindings and the pair of brand new burton boots i bought a few years ago without really trying them on and almost dying from my feet falling off when i tried to ride with them. (i had to go to the ski shop at jiminy and buy another brand new pair. but at least those ones feel good. oh and they are 'sexy' according to the clerk. yay me and my sexy boots called Mink by k2) so, as we were walking in a guy that worked there asked if we were there to trade in and informed us that they stopped taking tradeins after jan. this upset me but i did appreciate the words of advice. so we put the old board and boots back in and took my troop without bindings into the store to find some and some used boots. i had to ask for help from the girl that worked there (and here is where the 2 stars almost came in and thus the no 4 stars status) and she was simply Very unhelpful. i was obviously there to spend money and when i asked about bindings i had to almost Pry the information out of her as to where the women bindings were. and then i found a pair i liked and she wouldn't go get them til kenz had found a pair of boots that fit. i can Sort of understand this but i told her they were size 7 and that should have been enough. i have been buying and wearing snowboard bindings for 17 years and i while i don't work in a store, i do know that there is a size that fits this boot. anyway, griping over, we found the Van's boots and they were all tied and set and i went over to the counter to have them put the bindings on and guess what? she hadn't gone to get them. and we had the boots on for a while, checking them out for fit and feel etc. i was actually about to leave and say screw it. i will just buy new. and then the guy that told us about the tradeins on the way in intervened. and made a sale. he found a burton plate to fit the non-burton bindings, mounted them and was friendly and helpful. we left happy. oh. also they have great deals on used skates - most of the normal ones are only $9.99 and there is a store-wide sale on stuff. 20% off the bindings and gear and such. good deals to be had. read more

Great place for any sports equipment. They have a huge selection of new and used stuff so you can find anything you're looking for in any price range. Very helpful staff who are very nice even after there were a lot of people in there after closing time. Will definitely get my my stuff here again in the future. We rented skis for the season, it was a good deal and the guys were nice. My husband and kids got great service when they went. I think they were a lot busier when I was there so It was ok but not fantastic. Overall we like them a lot. The prices for stuff are competitive and the opportunity to buy used stuff is a boon for families like us where the kids grow out of stuff. read more

I have been in this store a few times in the past, purchased a few items for my sons over the years. No real "bargains" in my opinion. I called a week ago to inquire what they were accepting (as this is a "used" sporting goods store). I was informed of several items- brought in several of what was currently being accepted. The two young men in the store were rude, dismissive and a bit sexist in how they treated me in comparison to the gentleman who was also selling them items. They barely looked at the items I brought in. The store appears over stocked to me. I wish when I called they said they were being extremely selective related to current demand etc. I wouldn't have wasted the gas. Furthermore, the attitude of the two guys at the counter was enough to get me to take this place off my list forever. read more

Came in and was given a quote for my irons. Told them I would wait a few weeks and was told when I come back they would buy them at the price quoted. Came back 2 weeks later and was offered a price $15 less. Explained to them that I was here 2 weeks earlier and they said they would NOT give me what they quoted unless I was given a piece of yellow paper with that price on it.. This is a business that does NOT honor their promise and then uses some excuse like what "their boss told them," to rationalize their reason for a lower price. I would recommend that you STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS since they can't be trusted. read more

Went here with my brother to get him wrestling equipment a couple of seasons ago. We walked in and we greeted and asked if we needed help and they pointed us in the direction of the equipment they carried. We found the new and pre-loved section of the wrestling shoes. The new shoes were $30-$45. We found a used pair for $20 even used they were in great condition. They have lasted 3 years including off season. Went to Dicks sporting goods after, shoes there were $55+. Go here every time I need something sports related. Good prices for items being sold. read more
