We did however have issues with the placement of benches in the museum. When we drank our coffee we sat facing a window that had a huge rectangle in our line of sight. Another bench had a plaque on it to show maybe dedicated or donated to the museum, was in a dimly lit hallway. One final bench, was placed too closely to art. You can sit and relax on it and hit your head on fine art. Other than the coffee and the misplaced benches, this museum is delightful. The updates they've done are beautiful and I love coming to see the new exhibits.

If you are just looking for something to do while in Lubbock, it will depend on whether or not it is for you. It is definitely deep on windmills and history. LOCATION/AMBIANCE The American Windmill Museum is located in the northeast part of Lubbock, TX with close access to Interstate 25 and Loop 289. As you approach the museum grounds, you'll see the fenced in area with a slew of outdoor windmills of all generations. The building in which you can schedule a group tour of 6 or more or self-tour is huge... however, it is broken into sections: two windmill areas, model train displays, miniature houses, millstone collection, gift shop, a counter weight display, and plus their event room has an amazing wrap-around mural. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB My 8 & 9-year-olds loved the "Legacy of the Wind" seek and find. We received a few handouts soon after purchasing our tour tickets. Brochures and the like. One was a list of over 30 items to find on the mural in their special events room. Not only did this entertain them for 20 minutes, but it also was puzzle-like & expanded their vocabulary with words like "privies" & "man witching for water. But I was intrigued after reading the reviews mentioning the taxidermy mules in the McCormick display. It's the very first display at the entrance. I thought I would at least pay a "tribute" to the mules. Since I didn't see any signs saying that photos were not allowed, I took a few pics. You're charged $10 to see two very small rooms that consisted of a bedroom set a table, a couple guitars and a motorcycle. There is an art gallery I was told, but it was closed so I'm not able to attest to what is in there. I will say the gift shop is pretty nice and I can see where a lot of people would find some unique things in there, especially if someone likes unique glasses. I was very tempted to get a pair of Buddy Holly glasses. The people were not overly friendly, which is unusual for Lubbock. At least now I can say I've finally been there.

Behind this is an open air museum of buildings from Texas ranch life in the 1800's. It is varied and fascinating to see how people lived and worked back then.
