I've been to a number of science museums all over the country... unfortunately, this one can definitely use some improvements. Admission: Adults: $10, kids 3+ $6.50, kids under 2 FREE. My friend and I came with our combined 5 kiddos ages 5,4,3,2 & 2. The kids had a good time. They didn't notice any of the "issues" but I did. (We mainly stayed in the little kid area but did venture out a bit into the more "grown up" exhibits and didn't visit the lower level at all. We came on a Friday around 1pm and this place was DEAD. Some of the needed improvements: - Many of the exhibits were broken, not working or needing repair. In the young kid area: *an exhibit on air flow, didn't work. *The water table had sprayers that didn't have enough "oomph" to turn the fan/wheels, the water also looked a bit "murky" *in the music room, there was only 1 drum stick... with TONS of percussion (which caused fights with the kids). There were numerous containers for holding drumsticks/mallets but nope, only 1 in the whole room. *the checkout scanner in the market didn't work. (It looked like it did at one point but not currently) Out in the more grown up area: *The "shadow room" wasn't working (which was one of my friend's kid's favorites) *a ball racing activity didn't light up at the finish line *a sand pendulum didn't drop sand *the bubble area was underwhelming (I couldn't even blow bubbles, maybe the solution wasn't strong enough???) -A thorough deep cleaning is needed. For instance, I was looking at the ceiling vents in the kid area and they were SO DIRTY AND DUSTY. The restroom looked clean but it smelled like the zoo. My husband said that when he had a work conference in Lubbock, they had it at Science Spectrum. Apparently they have a decent-sized conference room?? All in all, Science Spectrum was fun for the kids and a nice was to spend on a gloomy day. There definitely needs to be some repairs made. read more

Staff was kind a polite. The place was very neat and advanced compared to the other STEM locations I've been to in Texas. There's the Do-seum in San Antonio and the Perot Museum in Dallas. Both pale in comparison to this place. So much to do and learn here. You won't regret the experience. And the gift shop is just as cool. I love love love coming to the Science Spectrum! I brought my two brother and sister a week before a major surgery just to spend time together. We loved it, this place has always been so much fun ever since I was littler. They have concessions and it's awesome to spend a whole day here with the family. Their gift shop has different varieties of things to shop for, from books to toys. They also have the omni theatre which is basically like a big dome but you can watch a movie on the ceiling and it's awesome! read more

We brought my son here to run around one afternoon. He was 12 months old at the time so I wasn't sure how much he could do. They actually have an area specifically for children under 5! There's a train, a jungle themed area, grocery area, news station, etc. My son had a lot of fun running around. I would definitely recommend stopping in if you have a little one! read more

Five star museum definitely if you go in with the knowledge that this is a children's museum and therefore will be geared towards kids, have lots of kids present, and will have some things broken/overused...due to all the kids! It's set up on three floors, all of which are quite large. We stayed for 90 minutes, I could see this being a 4 hour museum to fully explore. The bottom floor has tanks of fish and turtles that are really fun, the middle has a bubble section (with a very odd sign that says blowing bubbles is not allowed....in the bubble room?), and the top floor has a very extensive aviation exhibit complete with a cockpit and mock mission control center that has a video game style interface. I enjoyed that as much as the kids! There is also a "money" exhibit that is fascinating, but really for older kids. It should be called an exhibit on capitalism and the economy rather than money, but everyone will learn something. Our whole family enjoyed it. We could not stay for an IMAX but would love to in the future. They honored the ASTC reciprocal membership we had, and the facilities (bathrooms, water) were very clean. Parking was just out front and not crowded. We visited on a weekday during the summer and it was not crowded at all, and not covered in school/daycare groups like other places we have visited on weekdays. What a great place the Science Spectrum is. The three floors are packed with a variety of hands-on demonstrations of scientific concepts. There are also live animal shows, discussions of medical problems such as drug addiction, and even demonstrations of the application of science to sports, photography and flight. Kids of all ages--tiny tots to teens--have fun, and even their parents and grandparents get interested and involved. Moreover, this is a place you can visit over and over again, and have a different experience each time. When my children were little, we went to the preschool area and used it as our indoor play space, taking full advantage of our family membership. As my children grew older they graduated to the other areas--and always had a great time. Today my children are grown, and have all gone on to study or contribute to areas of math or science (three sons who are engineers, one computer engineering major, one who is studying chemistry, a daughter who graduated with a math degree). I owe a great debt to the Science Spectrum for the many experiences which challenged my children and offered them so many opportunities to understand science. And here I am again, this time with my grandchildren, enjoying the Spectrum all over again. I am so happy to take advantage of a family membership again--this time with the added bonus of free Omni theater passes as well. The year-long family memberships are well worth it. Grandparents--consider giving a family membership to your grandchildren--and come along for the fun! read more

We love the science spectrum. We live out of state and every time we visit Lubbock we come here. We have been to many kids/science museums around the country and this is our favorite by far. They have so many educational exhibits and a fun kids play area. The price is reasonable, especially since you could stay for many hours exploring everything. There is so much to do. My kids never get bored here. They have added a lot of new exhibits recently that are really fun. Everything is super hands on. It never feels crowded because there are so many areas to explore. I'm always swept up in nostalgia for my childhood every time I enter the Science Spectrum, and it's great experiencing the museum from a different point of view now as a parent. I like that there's a few familiar exhibits, like the bubble area and basement floor creatures and critters, and its been great discovering new additions to the museum over the years. I've taken my niece and nephew here each time I've been back. The first was to actually see the exhibits in the Science Spectrum and watch an Omnimax movie, and the second time we went for Critter Fest. Both were...interesting experiences. The Good: I'm glad a place like this exists in Lubbock. I try to do semi-educational activities with my niece and nephew when I go back. Mainly to prevent him from being a jock and her a cheerleader with no aspirations beyond being cool in high school. They're both under 10, so I gotta influence while they're young! They activities are awesome for the kids. They are fascinated by anything and everything. That's kind of where it ends. The Bad: They still have the same exhibits from when I was a kid. I don't mean the same type of stuff, I mean they literally have the exact same exhibits from when I was a kid. Everything there seems to be at least 15 year old. The tiger show at Critter Fest was horrid. When you walk in, the smell of ammonia from tiger urine hits your face like a bat. The little ones kept asking, "What's that smell? Why does it smell like that?" The highlight of the show was that they had 7 tigers. Neat to see at once, but they didn't do much of anything. They all appeared quite lethargic. My niece and nephew didn't care a lick about the science aspect of everything. They cared more about playing with the bubbles or spinning, moving, racing, or throwing things. Eh, I tried. Outside at Critter Fest was a small petting zoo. I couldn't believe I paid so much for something so simple. Overall: I guess anything's worth it to see a smile on my niece and nephew's faces. Fun museum. We went and saw the museum part and the butterfly exhibit (a special, limited time exhibit). Several times, staff members came up to my husband and I and explained things or mentioned an interesting fact. They seemed very engaged with visitors. There were a ton of noisy small kids running around, so this place is kid-friendly. They have an I-Max theater showing 3 films, but we didn't go to that part. I love the special events they have and my kids love it too. I just wish they would have some more interactive exhibits or some that change more often. There are some exhibits in the basement that have been there for more than a decade that are just not great and there is always something out of order or broken or missing parts. That being said, my kids still have a great time. My kids love the water table area the best. read more

The kids always have a blast at the Science Spectrum. It is a great value for the money. (Yes, I always want to bust out with hand sanitizer every 5 minutes, but that's me.) The science exhibits are fun, amd the wide variety of subjects ensures every child finds something they are fascinated by. One suggestion is to have a staff member floating in the exhibition areas. If they do, we never saw one. For the most part, kids are accompanied by adults and there isn't a problem. Several times, we ran into kids without adults who would "hog" certain activities for 20 to 30 minutes at a time. We were glad they were so fascinated, but had to leave with our kids missing out on some of the popular activities. Not a big deal, but definitely something easily remedied. read more

I volunteered here this summer and had such a great experience. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure visitors and employees are safe with COVID. Exhibits are constantly sanitized and there is hand-sanitizing stations all throughout the building. The exhibits are very clean and prices are reasonable. You will have a great time!! read more

I have a son and he loves to go to the science spectrum! We are members so we go as often as we can, its pretty interesting when they bring in outside exhibits. One onf my favorite was Leonardo Da Vinci. I didnt spend as much time as I wanted to in there because we had to leave early. Right now the have butterflies, and it is awesome to see all the variations of them. I wish they would add new year round activities, but Its still cool. read more

Used to go here on school trips haven't been in 20 years brought my 4 year old daughter main floor was fun for her top had some boring exhibits like the old lady clothes and planes history sports part I didn't even go in some parts were outdated bottom floor little eery I liked small aquarium area .... omnimax was cool my 4 year old was bored after 20 minutes but that's expected...... the dinosaur video game room was boring outdated and I asked for my money back they refused and there excuse was we went in but how do u know from outside it should just be apart of it not extra they should get rid of it or update it ... left a little upset on that part spent 47 $ for all felt like more of a 30$ experience read more

This place is a dirty version of the Perot in Dallas. It was cool at one time but it's really outdated and turned me into a slight germaphobe. In the summer it's crazy town with children running and screaming and doing children things. I've taken kids there and they have a blast. I however feel like I need a shower every time I leave. It's probably important to note I don't enjoy people in closed spaces like that. I'm really glad Lubbock has this for kids, but the animals down stairs are sad and the place smells like a dirty diaper. read more

We were here last year; same improvements needed, many old, nonworking exhibits (i,e., giant toothbrush/old bent bristles, dig for dinosaur bone/wax is gone so nothing to do there, helium balloon not working). It just seemed our granddaughters (6 & 3) pushed buttons and nothing happened. Play area for toddlers was fun for them. People are super nice! As a precursor - I have been to many museums with my family. This place is not worth the trip. It is cheap and not very crowded. However, most of the exhibits were broken. I lived in the Lubbock area most if my life. Had never been until today. It was amazing. Tons of hands on stuff with explanations for everything. Three floors of exhibits. We live I'm California now so we have seen all the aquariums out there. It was a great change to see fish native to Texas and the abrazos and coast. Loved the flight part including info about Reese AFB since it is also a part if my upbringing. Enjoyed the exhibit from Margaret's. I remember the dress shop even tho we didn't shop there. Loved the West Texas memories and sharing my heritage with my son. read more

We love going here. We just moved to Lubbock in April and it was one of the first places we visited. We have 2 children and they love museums, especially the hands on kind. It took us a while to go through it and the butterfly exhibit was awesome. Definitely worth spending time there. read more
