You walk in expecting a little reggae, maybe some surf rock, something that says "you're on vacation." Instead... absolute dead silence. Like a library where everyone accidentally ordered açaí. Why am I whispering to my girlfriend at noon over fruit? Why does it feel like I'm about to get shushed by a librarian? After 22 years in hospitality, I can tell you: turning the music off is the universal signal for "please leave." Even blackout drunk people clock it immediately. So what is the strategy here? Is this some advanced "turn and burn" technique where we emotionally nudge people out with awkward silence? Because congrats, it works. I've never wanted to finish a perfectly good bowl faster in my life. The wild part is you clearly care about every other detail. Playa bowls has the best bowls!! I love this location because there is a cute courtyard to sit in when it's nice outside. The inside is nice and spacious, as well. Street parking isn't too bad (even for a Saturday morning). I love the mango based bowls the most! I also like the smoothies and the juices. I haven't had a bad thing on the menu. Wish we had some of these in Omaha! I love a açaí bowl, but after trying a coconut bowl I might have a new favorite. I got the Nutelloco coconut bowl and it was delicious. It had Nutella of course, granola, strawberries, bananas, and some chocolate and coconut to top it off. It's a little on the pricier side BUT it did last me two days so it's more reasonable when you take that into account. The staff was so sweet, my friend had her dog with us and they offered him a pup cup! Great little neighborhood and ambiance, we sat on the patio and it was beautiful out, they even had their doors open to let the air inside. read more

A good, average experience on a recent takeout order. I wasn't wowed, in fact the açaí base wasn't my favorite and most of the blueberries were mushy. Cute spot! Perfect for grabbing a post workout smoothie, bowl or juice. Spacious inside, lots of seating, would be a good post sloans lake walk hangout area, especially with a larger group. I've had the classic acai bowl from here which is good, this time we tried the more banana/peanut butter/chocolate flavors which were also nice (costa bowl and booster smoothie). The reason I gave 4 stars instead of price is purely for cost, so come knowing it won't be cheap. I think between the bowl and small size smoothie came out around $30. read more

Food: I am slightly obsessed with this place. I order it on DoorDash so much, I am actually shocked I haven't reviewed them yet on Yelp. I have found a rhythm where I usually get the Power Açaí bowl (açaí, chocolate protein, topped with granola, banana, and peanut butter) because omg it's too die for, but I like trying new ones. So if I'm feeling adventurous, I get two bowls (they have so many to choose from!) -- always have the backup of the power açaí haha -- plus a new one. Sounds silly but they are as good leftover so it's never a waste. I put them in the freezer if I don't finish then put on the counter for 30 minutes before wanting to eat it again. I've actually never been in the restaurant so I am not sure about the ambiance or service but when I've done add-ons on DoorDash, it's always been right! read more

The staff was oozing with friendliness and calmness despite the long line wrapped around the block. After a week of winter weather, Playa Bowls is exactly what I needed for a taste of summer and beach vibes. The interior instantly transported me to the Jersey shore (surfboard tables, beach-y color scheme, etc.), in the best way. Lots of options for different bases (or even the option to combine bases!) and for different toppings depending on what you're in the mood for. The people who work here are great and do the best they can with the staffing they are provided. The smoothies and açaí bowls are great. It's unfair to these workers that they are pretty much always slammed and overworked, and I suspect that's why turnover is endless and there's been a "hiring" sign up for years. I got the coco berry bowl on Friday and swapped the granola for GF granola and removed the honey (as it's already sweet enough for me ). My husband ordered one tonight with Nutella, banana, cacao nibs, coconut shreds, berries, bee pollen and GF granola. SO GOOD. Honestly these are consistent every single time and the PERFECT portions of everything IMO. Not too big of a portion where you feel really full and not too much "base-to-topping" ratio! Playa is by far my favorite place to go when it comes to an Açaí bowl. I've been getting them for years and used to travel all the way to Littleton for them. They have since opened a location downtown and in Edgewater which is way closer to me. I always get the pura vida bowl with is acai base with granola, honey strawberries and blueberries. These bowls taste like rays of sunshine, toes in the sand, and toucans chirping in the background. We stopped in on a hot May day for a smoothie bowl. There are so many options, something for everyone. There are a few options of bases including a traditional açaí, pitaya or dragon fruit, or a green base with kale and fruit, and others. We had the pitaya. YUM! You can customize the bowl, order a combination of bases, customize the fruit, and add nut butters. Added bonus, this place is also right next to a beer garden. We've visited this location multiple times after going to the Fort Meyers location when we visit our daughter in college. We we're excited to see there are a few CO locations and we've visited them both, driving 40 minutes each way. Parking at this location is so much easier than the Broadway location and the vibe and restaurants surrounding the area are more oriented towards young adults and families.
