Stopped by Playa Bowls and really enjoyed my acai bowl--it was fresh, flavorful, and loaded with quality fruit and toppings. The staff was friendly, and my order was made quickly. The tropical atmosphere is a nice touch and makes it a fun place to grab a healthy treat. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that the outdoor tables weren't very clean and could have used some attention. A cleaner seating area would make the overall experience even better. Overall, I'd definitely come back for another bowl and recommend it to anyone looking for a fresh, delicious snack or light meal. read more

Playa Bowls are certainly delicious. And, we try to convince ourselves it's a healthy lunch option. But, lets face it given the amount of sugar in each one, it's basically a dessert. That doesn't take away from how good they are, but puts it in perspective. They do use the freshest of ingredients, which is a plus. I went with a Coconut based bowl this time. And, they are less sweeter than the other options. I got the Nutelloco. It's the Coconut blend with granola, strawberries, bananas, coconut flakes and nutella. Nutella makes everything better! And, of course, the bowl was decadent (if you like coconut). This location is a true Playa Bowl, as you can devour your bowl while looking out at the Playa. Prices are high and consistent across all location. $7-8 for a smoothie and $9-10 for a Bowl. I've frequented their Belmar location too, which is a much larger indoor store as opposed to the Manasquan store front location. read more

I've always loved plays bowls and have been to a ton of them, and while everything generally tastes great, I feel like the prices consistently get bigger and what you get gets smaller. I usually go for the bowls and every time there's more and more granola and less smoothie in it. This location also takes a really long time to get orders out, despite having most mixes for the bowls premade , but in all fairness, they're always packed with people and the line is always insane (which granted comes with being the only smoothie store on a super crowded beach) read more

Hands down the playa bowls and smoothies are the best there are. But the store in Bay Head needs work. It's dirty-- I once had a girl push a banana peel down the trash bin with her gloves on then try to cut fruit for my bowl. When I asked her to put on new gloves she debated me. More disgusting - the girls are always pulling their shorts out of their butt crack then making bowls. Even more disappointing, I got crickets when I reached out to management to alert them. This place is usually so good. I am a picky eater, so I usually order an oatmeal bowl. Today, my friend and I were starving. The line was long, but we waited because we both really wanted playa bowls. The line went quickly, but we both waited over an HOUR for our bowls. My oatmeal bowl is usually made within ten minutes. They scoop the oatmeal in the bowl and add toppings. But today, not only did I wait over an hour, but my oatmeal was FREEZING COLD! It was also completely drowned in honey. I usually LOVE getting oatmeal from playa but today gave them a really bad rep in my mind. Disappointed. Separate from the food - I spent $24 here today. How? I got an orange juice and an oatmeal bowl. HOW? How is that 24. My orange juice is 8.50 I only got two additional toppings to my oatmeal. Playa Bowls has several locations around the Jersey Shore but I've only been to the one in Manasquan. It's worth the hour drive. Whenever I am down that way visiting friends, Playa Bowls is my first stop. I wish this location was open all year around. Currently it's open May through September. They offer Juices, Smoothies, Acai (pronounced Ahh-Sigh-Eee) Bowls, Pitaya Bowls, Green Bowls and Coconut Bowls. I always go for the Pitaya, I love the beautiful hot pink color. It tastes ahhmazing and it's good for you! Bowls are topped with different fruit, granola, honey/agave, etc. The menu offers great combinations! You'll spend $7 for a Juice or Smoothie and $9-10 for a Bowl. They do take credit cards. They also offer a loyalty card. Buy 12 Bowls, Get One FREE. I have a severe gluten allergy and my favoirite thing to order is just strawberries and nutella from playa bowls. I go to the beach a lot this summer and playa bowls is the only place I can eat from. The girls working there are extremley nasty and inconsiderate. I asked just for one fruit and nutella, and they charge me for a fruit cup - $7.99, then Add strawberries $0.75, and then add nutella $0.75. Why are strawberries not included in a fruit cup. If im paying $9.06 for this at least fill my bowl up! They're so cheap. Absolutely ridiculous, and I always complain. I should just be charged for Add strawberries, and Add nutella! read more

Well this place is potentially tasty but the execution is inconsistent (especially given the prices)... otherwise I'd probably rate Playa Bowls 4 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit. I showed up on a cloudy late Friday morning and took in the vast menu. (It is nice to have options.) There were only a couple other people ordering so we didn't have to wait in line long... or wait long for our orders for that matter. My bf and I ended up sharing two bowls--The Nica Bowl ($10) and The Nutaya Bowl ($11). The Nica Bowl includes a banana base (bananas blended with honey and almond milk) topped with banana slices, strawberry slices, granola, walnuts, cacao nibs, and a peanut butter drizzle. Yum! Can't go wrong with a peanut butter, berry and banana combo. The Nutaya Bowl includes a pitaya aka dragon fruit base (pitaya blended with banana, pineapple, and coconut milk) topped with banana slices, blueberries, granola, coconut flakes, cacao nibs, and a Nutella drizzle. Yep, a Nutella drizzle people. I also enjoyed this bowl... both were a good combo of sweet, fruity, creamy and crunchy. The guy and girl working behind the counter were nice too. On my second visit I showed up on a sunny Sunday afternoon (I believe) and was wanting some protein so I went with the Oh Mega Chia Bowl ($8) and added a peanut butter drizzle for another 50 cents. This bowl includes a chia pudding base (chia seeds, coconut milk, agave, and vanilla... made in house) topped with granola, banana slices, blueberries, hemp seeds, and agave. It was a little busier this day and they had a few more people working behind the counter. They forgot to add the peanut butter so I went back and waited a couple minutes for that magic to happen. There were some technical difficulties with the peanut butter in the squeeze bottle so that's why it took longer than just a few seconds. The chia pudding itself is pretty plain so make sure to get the toppings involved in every bite. My third (and last) visit did not go so well. I was laying out on the beach and needed some food to dull my hanger, so a refreshing acai bowl sounded nice. I arrived during the late afternoon on a sunny Monday (Labor Day) and the place was pretty busy. I went with the Tropical Acai Bowl ($9) because it sounded extra refreshing. The bowl includes an acai base (pure acai) topped with granola, banana slices, diced pineapple, coconut flakes, and honey). I eagerly waited a handful of minutes for my bowl and was way too excited to dig in. After I ate a bit of the overflowing toppings and worked my way down to the acai (in a mere 30 seconds) I realized that the acai base (which is supposed to be thick and frozen-ish) was completely melted. Like juice running off my spoon. Whelp that's not right. So I went back and politely showed one of the girls behind the counter what was going on and she offered to make me a new one. I then waited another 5-10 minutes to get my new bowl. I looked back in the kitchen area and saw that they were making big blender batches of all the bases and just letting the mixtures sit out and evidently melt. My first acai bowl must have gotten the last of the completely melted acai base before they blended up a new batch. So I finally got my new bowl and it was better than the first but still a tiny bit too melty. Overall this place has potential, I'd say just don't make up big batches, especially when it's hot out. There is an acai bowl place in Seattle that I frequent which has less options on the menu but the quality and portions are much better given the prices. read more
