I have been a loyal customer of this location for quite some time and order through the app nearly every day. What should have been a simple customer service interaction turned into an unnecessarily frustrating experience. I contacted the store because there was recurring inconsistency with my order. Rather than helping me find a solution, the manager was dismissive and argumentative from the start. She initially insisted that an option existed in the app when it did not. After several minutes, she confirmed that I was correct, yet still offered no practical solution. I was already paying extra for my request. I repeatedly asked how I could pay more for what I was requesting and comply with store policies. Instead of receiving clear guidance, I was told employees could get in trouble for providing too much of an item, but no alternative was offered. I was eventually instructed to call the store when placing orders so the request could be noted. I followed those instructions. When the issue continued, I called again and was met with the same dismissive attitude. Now the store appears to avoid the issue altogether by refusing to answer the phone. What concerns me is not the item itself. It is the complete lack of customer service. A daily customer brought a reasonable concern to management, attempted multiple times to resolve it respectfully, and repeatedly asked how to pay for and receive a consistent order. At every step, the response was defensive, unhelpful, or simply nonexistent. To be fair, this review is not directed at the staff as a whole. Most employees have always been pleasant and never seemed to view my request as unreasonable. The issue appears to be with management's attitude and unwillingness to work toward a solution, despite multiple opportunities to do so. Mistakes happen in any business. What distinguishes a well-managed location is how those mistakes are handled. Unfortunately, my experience with management at this location has demonstrated a lack of professionalism, poor communication, and little interest in resolving customer concerns. After the amount of business I have given this store, I expected far better treatment. At 11:15am on Monday, 10/10, we arrived at Plya Bowl in Bayhead. We are generally very happy with their service and product. However when we arrived today we waited at the counter for five minutes while the server was preparing a to go order for someone else. Although she was fully aware of our presence she did not tell us that they were out of oatmeal. Finally she asked what we wanted and we ordered oatmeal bowls. Then she said we are out of oatmeal and it will take an hour to make more. We said in a friendly manner, oh we were so looking forward to oatmeal that's why we came today. She said in a very curt manner so did everyone else. We ended up leaving with a very bad taste in our mouth. I love Playa Bowls and I always go to the Bay Head location since it's so close to my house. I went today and I was very disappointed. I walked in waited a good 10 minutes for one of the employees to notice that I was waiting to order. Once the girl came up to me she was just staring at me with a dirty look. I placed my order with her and she gave such attitude towards me. She kept making a comment saying "ugh another bowl". She continued to say that when another customer came in after me. Both girls in that location were so miserable and rude. I will never understand why anyone thinks it's ok to treat customers that way. Unfortunately this isn't the first time a Playa Bowl employee was rude and miserable towards me. Another thing my bowl was absolutely terrible. The blueberries were so sour I couldn't eat it, there was barely any Nutella on it and I had no granola either because they just gave me the crumbs. I wasted $11 on a bowl that was terrible. Was just there earlier today to get some iced coffee with my cousins, one of whom has a life-threatening nut allergy. When ordering the coffees, I was told they did not carry regular cow's milk. I had the choice between soy milk, almond milk and some other kind of fictitious milk. I ordered soy for my cousin allergic to nuts and almond for the other. When the coffees were finished, the girl specifically told me which one was which. I asked again "You're sure this is soy?" To which she said "Yes." Five minutes in later in the car, my cousin allergic to nuts starts to feel her throat closing. Sure enough, she was given the wrong coffee. Thankfully, we had an Epi-pen and Benadryl at the ready. Had we not, this careless and easily-avoidable mistake could have been much more serious. At the very least, it has cost Playa Bowls our business.
