Waiting for the solar eclipse glasses.
    Michelle P.

I had the pleasure of visiting this branch today. We came in for some solar eclipse glasses and stayed a while. I will say, the area is really nice and there's lots of parks and areas for the children to run around nearby. My kiddos are little so sometimes I need to get their wiggles out before taking them into the library so they're chill so the nearby parks are such a plus. There seems to be ample parking although today it was packed because of the glasses giveaway. It's definitely a smaller library but it's cost and clean and quiet and the staff is SO lovely. I will be frequenting this location more often just to switch it up. Looking forward to more visits.

Great library but their restroom counter is cringing and disgusting for such an upscale and nice neighborhood. I am writing this review in hopes that they replace that cringy looking counter. The rest of the library is so neat and nice and the staff are knowledgeable, professional and helpful

Great library located in Playa Vista. (Playa Vista is kind of in between Marina del Rey and Playa del Rey) The staff are all very nice.... especially Veronica. (She remembers almost everyone). I like how there usually isn't a lot of people here.. and that it's close by where I live. There is always plenty of parking in their lot and on the street. The library is kind of new.. it was built in 2004. There are about a dozen or so computers available for use... and two 15-minute use computers near the entrance. They have a VERY small section for Spanish and Chinese books. I don't think I saw a Large Text section. They carry old classic movies as well as new movies that just came out to DVD.. as well as everything in between. If you look at there pictures.. there is plenty of space to sit down and study.. or fall asleep. Also.. the library usually has a lot of events/classes going on such as learning fishing techniques, resume writing, knitting, book clubs, philosophy cafes, and storytelling.

The best thing about this library is the used book sale, lots of great books from all genres, ideal for the literary enthusiasts looking for a great read, or to expand your personal library collection. This library is also nice for teens, and for parents who wish to engage their little ones in books. There is a teen section and a children's section. Now, the downside to this is, if you are an adult looking to get some work done in what you would assume to be a quiet space...guess again. Unfortunately, the children's section makes this library extremely noisy most of the time. Since this is a tiny library, there is no place one can go to escape the distracting chaos coming from the children's section that frequently fills the entire library in surround sound. So be prepared, and consider bringing some headphones (music) or ear plugs. This library is also VERY limited in the books it carries. I almost always have to request books to be sent here from other locations. However, they offer a great selection of cook books, including plenty of vegetarian, vegan, raw vegan, salad, and soup books. I can always find what I am looking for in this category. Overall, I would say this library is okay, but is probably best suited for children and teens. 103/100

Nice small library tucked away around the corner from the Playa Vista Sports Park. Come here with my kids after I tire them out at the park. We come here and wind down afterwards and grab a couple of books. They have nice little sections specifically for the little kids and teens which makes it nice.

New hours! Starting October 15, 2012.

This Playa Vista hideaway is hard to find but very much worth it mostly for its quiet library, charming local eateries and soaring seagulls.

After reading the history and significance of this amazing library, along with the glowing reviews and pictures on Yelp, how have we not visited before? We arrived around 1pm. Parking at the library was super easy in the surprisingly clean, multi-level underground space. We were then pleasantly surprised by the AAPI event. We were given cute tote bags with information about the free festival along with fans, notebooks and pencils. There were several activities going on like Lei Making and traditional Japanese dance lessons. We came across a table where we were given a special edition K-pop CD package and information on learning the Korean language. We had a wonderful time! The library itself was simply amazing. Being our first time, our minds were on overload with so much to explore at every turn. I especially enjoyed the Getty Gallery. The architecture is quite the marvel. Even the elevators thoughtfully designed with old index cards were so cool. After walking every floor, we finally settled ourselves at a reading table on -2 where we also discovered the Octavia Lab -- wonderful place! The technology available in this space is just incredible. As others have mentioned, there are many, many homeless people throughout the library. Some sections are overwhelmed with odor that hits you like a brick and it was hard to just breathe. These areas are easy enough to avoid and as one reviewer suggested -- bring hand sanitizer! Now that we have a better understanding of how to navigate this historical library, we'll be keeping an eye on upcoming events or return to just explore more.

It's also a perfect spot for anyone creating content for a social media travel page. Upstairs you'll find an art gallery and several other shops, while downstairs has old vinyl records and CDs. If you love that classic old bookstore smell, this place has it in full. Personally it's not my favorite, but definitely worth noting for those who do. The main downsides are parking and crowds. Finding a spot by car can be a challenge, and the store draws a good number of tourists so it can get pretty packed. If you're not a fan of crowds, just keep that in mind before you go.

William A. Clark Jr. was the founder of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, a fine book collector, and philanthropist who donated this exceptional library to the University of California, Los Angeles. He was also a husband, a father, heir to a large fortune, a lover, and a fan of Oscar Wilde. His romantic partner Harrison Post was a noted transcriber of Oscar Wilde's letters; the library continues to hold significant works by this ground-breaking author. The buildings comprising the library have been beautifully preserved and expanded over the years. The library collection itself is held in temperature controlled areas, with volumes being rotated out for exhibits. Appointments are necessary to see specific volumes. The grounds themselves are open to the public during business hours; however, to see the interior of the library, you must attend a docent-guided tour. Our docent, Bailey, was truly exepctional; humorous, knoweledgable, and patient with all our questions. Please email the library to sign up for a tour. Admission is free. Parking is also free (as we were told, the *only* free parking on the UCLA campus!). Add this to your list if you're interested in Los Angeles, history, queer history, and/or Oscar Wilde.
