I got chilllls, they're multiplying, and I'm loosing control cuz the power this place supplying is electrifying! So we saw Annie here ... ahh jk. Of course it was Grease. Ya know, I could watch elementary kids perform Grease and I'd still like it cuz the musical has always been that nostalgic goodness I can't get enough of. It's definitely not broadway. It's low budget for the set and props. And tbh it looked like the actors weren't really into it and lacked enthusiasm. Idk. A few of them were really good though. I actually saw Grease on a cruise recently and it was a lot better there. There I left singing the songs in my head but here just didn't have that pizzazz. Doors open 15 minutes before showtime. There is a Concession bar but it wasn't open during intermission. And only water can be brought into the theatre per staff. Twix bar and water was $4. The restrooms are small and it's 1 urinal and 1 stall for everyone including the actors who I saw scrambling to use it during the intermission. Theatre itself has no bad seats. But Note the two chairs on each end of the front row are regular movable chairs and not the numbered theatre chairs attached to the ground. The play did start about 5 minutes later than curtain time as people kept trickling in. Programs are on laminated bills that you return at the end of the program. read more

This non-profit theater has undergone a huge transformation in the last year with new decor, upgraded bathrooms, a great show line up and a fabulous experience for all. We have seen many shows at this theater and have enjoyed all of them. The theater offers shows for youth and adults, and during the 2025 Christmas season is putting on Mary Poppins. I bought tickets to see Footloose months ago. I arrived today at 7:50 after driving 32 miles and an hour and 20 minutes eaxh way to find the play had been canceled due to Covid?!? They didn't bother to contact their patrons to let them know they were canceling their production...extremely disrespectful and inconsiderate. Avoid this place. There are so many phenomenal, properly run, community theaters in Houston. Do no waste your time at this place. They are unprofessional. read more

Cute theatre that is non-profit. They accept all to perform and put on plays year round. I went to see Annie and was really impressed by the quality of acting, costumes and props. The theatre is small but quaint. The only thing I did not like was the tiny parking lot. It was full when I got there so I had to park next to the curb. I wish they had signs about where overflow parking should be as the area isn't the best. read more

DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH. Newly discovered local GEM. I found out about this place from Goldenticket app and my husband and I attended an opening night there last Friday. The Runner Stumbles. I really wasn't sure what to expect as the building is well off the beaten path and the interior was... shabby, to be generous. It's the only reason I can't 5 star it because the performance and customer service and cleanliness was 5 star for sure. But I'm pretty spoiled on Sarofim Hall at Hobby Center when my boss gives me tickets. This is not that as far as facilities go. But we paid our ticket fee (which was so very reasonable for us working class folks - part of why we were there) and waited for our show to start and I was very pleasantly surprised at the concession offerings and prices. But bring cash because it's cash only for those. The interior was more of the shabby but loved, a la velveteen rabbit, but the quality of the sets gave me hope. Then a lady came and taped off a row of seats where leaks happen and inside I was like.. oh dear.. but then introductions were made and we were informed the entire cast and crew are volunteers. I was kind of blown away because you have to LOVE THEATER to put in that kind of work for free. Then the performance started and just... blow me down. The quality of the acting was surreal and so, so good. It's true what they say about "being immersed in the magic of live theater" and the small size of the playhouse gives it an even more intimate feel. I was concerned about my husband who is hard of hearing in one ear and it didn't seem like the individual actors wore microphones but my husband didn't complain about sound at all. WHAT A GEM and we will be back and plan to support the playhouse with not just ticket sales but donations as well so they can do more to update their facility. read more

I was invited to see a play there and I am glad I went. I thought the play was great. The plays there are very inexpensive and the acting very good.They've been open since 1973 and are doing a great service to the community by giving us exposure to the arts. I have to admit it is a little hard to find, and the playhouse itself doesnt have the best appearence, but it is definitely going to be worth the trip. The staff there was wonderful and so very friendly. I saw Agatha Christie's The Unexpected Guest, which was very good. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a good show. read more

Very nice waiting area with interesting floors and tables and chairs. Restroom was small and out of supplies, but that was remedied once I mentioned it. They sell a few items to quench your thirst or for snacking. When ready, you enter the theater and find a nice auditorium with assigned seats. All seats have good views of the stage. It seems to be an older theater, but it was comfortable and ample for a good show. The actors were easy to hear and the stage set was impressive. I would love to see more shows at this location. Plenty of parking and easy access. Just make sure to note they are located on GANT, not Grant. An error my friend made and nearly caused us to be late. read more

This is a review of the service, not the plays. I ordered tickets on line and then realized I need to make a change. There is no way to get assistance or to review or make a change once the tickets have been ordered. So I went to a different web site, since there is no telephone number on this site and called. I got a recording stating that the only way to make contact was by email. I was given an email address and sent an email only to have a response that the email address given to me was non-existent. I had made arrangements in the past with no problems, but now the website and information has been changed so that it is impossible to contact anyone at the Playhouse 1960. read more

Ok so the appearance is not the best. Playhouse 1960 is in an industrial looking warehouse, which isn't ideal for a theatre. However, the shows they produce are wonderful and cheap! The staff is always friendly and helpful. You can't say no to great theatre at a super low price. You pay way too much for movies anyway, you might as well see live theatre for the same price! read more

The location is in an industrial kind of area so the location isn't that great. The theater is kind of shabby and the sets were non-existent (however, I don't think this play was supposed to have sets) but the performers had what you always look for in performers. They had passion for what they were doing. We had an understudy at our performance that had to carry the script and read from it but she did a fabulous job and it didn't detract from the performance at all. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend it. The price of the tickets were a STEAL for the entertainment value of what we received. read more

Having an industrial-type roof, the place was a little bit warm, but the staff was wonderful, the concession very reasonable and definately worth my time to attend. The plays are top notch. Much cheaper than going Downtown. Every seat is good, everyone on stage is life size. Unlike Downtown where you need a high power telescope to see the show. One of my gripes is that the sound system is not always up to par and I miss some of the words said on stage, due to, the actor may not project their voice out into the audience and/or the mic system is off at times. I ordered 2012 season tickets online and paid for them in full, however; I never received the tickets, nor did I get the courtesy of an e-mail or returned call. I never saw one show and was never reimbursed for the missed shows. I let several messages and sent emails but to no avail. Not only would I not buy tickets online for these people, but I'll also never attend another show there. I would suggest other means of ordering tickets rather than online so the patrons will be guaranteed to get what they pay for...dispicable read more
