Great location, terrible conditions I switched my Kids Bowl Free location to this spot because it's 15min from my house vs 40min for the other location. I really regret not checking it out first. The lanes have no AC - just large metal fans that don't help at all. It gets uncomfortably hot fast, especially with kids. On top of that, the bowling balls and pins keep getting stuck, which kills the flow and fun. The staff member working alone is clearly doing her best and is very kind, but she's overwhelmed trying to keep up. I'm stuck at this location until next year since changes aren't allowed, but I wish I had known about the heat and equipment issues before switching. If you go, be prepared - it's hot and slow. Management needs to address AC and lane maintenance ASAP. read more

Decent enough bowling lanes facility in Drexel Hill. If you live in the area and want a quick activity to do with your partner or kid, this might be a good choice. It's small, but there is usually lane availability. It's cheap at $30 an hour (pricing per game available as well). It's a diverse crowd. They have some food and alchohol/beverage items. Their fries smelled delicious. Service is pretty friendly, and they run the place like a well-oiled machine. They have an arcade. Cons are that it's small, pins have to be reset often, and it needs an update. I went here on a Saturday night and had a good time regardless. It's worth a visit but only if in area. read more

I'm giving this place 2 stars I went to playhouse this weekend and the prices were insanely higher then before. The owner of the business didn't seem very nice to his employees at least I was told he was the owner by an employee. Muscular guy wears the tight jeans and the tucked in shirt. [598] This is a small bowling alley which is pretty cool. Updated in the past few years so it's def worth visiting especially if you're taking advantage of one of their specials (listed online). We like coming here on Sunday morning for their bowling/shoe special plus the place is pretty empty since they just opened up for the day. The staff is really nice although they could really use a second person on Sunday mornings. The lane broke down a few time and he was trying to fix it while helping at the counter. He was definitely hustling but in good spirits. They have glow bowl for the kids which is great. Bumpers and ball guiders so the kids can definitely have a good time. There is a bar area which also has food. Haven't tried it. There is a small party room which is probably good for about 10 kids. We had our sons party here a few years ago and it was great. We had the lanes near the bathroom and party room. The price was amazing per kid especially during the summer. Parking - A few spaces on the side of the building but plenty of street parking. Music - there is a pay music jukebox which hubby usually uses. If not it's pretty quiet. We will definitely be back. read more

After a quick google search, I found playhouse lanes for my sons 8th birthday party. In a time crunch, I hastily booked them for his party without reading the reviews. I was not able to book over the phone or internet but had to come in person. In such a technical age, that was a minor inconvenience. However the day of the party went smoothly and the young men who work there were awesome (sorry guys I forget your names) the pizzas were on time and hot. Sodas were cold. Glow bowling was fun. My only negative remark is that there was no air available in the downstairs party room so think twice about having a summer birthday here. Otherwise, my son is definitely looking forward to going back and spending some time bowling! read more

I do not recommend having any event/party here! Worst customer service experience I ever had at a facility! The manager was not on duty and young people there running the place and they were no help at all for my sons B Day Party! They ignored us and didn't even up date us on anything as far as food/drinks. We ordered different flavors of pizza but only received cheese??? I was told that I would have a person designated to help out during the party but no one even asked us once if we needed anything. They keep harassing us about payment when we we're trying to decorate and make sure everything was in order, but had lousy service ! This place definitely needs to up there game on having better staff and customer service! Never coming here again! read more

PLAYHOUSE LANES discriminated against myself and a very small group when we were looking forward to a few hours of fun night out blowing on Friday night 2/15/19 a little after 10pm. We were told that they were not renting out anymore lanes for the night. Well, as we left and was standing outside, another small group showed up and was serviced. Were we discriminated against because I a black woman was with a Caucasian white couple? It was very humiliating to stand and watch as the other were serviced an my little daughter and my friend's 5 year old nephew were very upset because they were looking forward all day to bowling. This was the hardest thing to swallow. I went inside to ask for a manager as he was already standing there when one of the other fellas turned us away. We were told that they were going to come get us so that we could rent a lane. WHERE were they going to look for us? This was just a poor excuse because they were caught discrimination. I really do not think that they haven't a care of what they have done. PLAYHOUSE LANES response to not even the actual complainant but to someone else's post was that "we do apologize for what your friends experienced BUT we do not discriminate against anyone, and that we were turned away due to being rude and disruptive behavior to customers and staff". Slander is what this is called and by Law is prohibited and a offense. Surveillance cameras WILL show no such thing, only that a small group of both children and adults came in very happy and ready to have fun, just to get turned away. We did not give them any problems, even when we approached them to ask why we were turned away. And then asked for names of the staff and a number for the owner. After that, we left. Why are we still dealing with this type of situation? And this is a community of very nice families. PLAYHOUSE LANES should be very shamed. You get no STARS from me, nor will I ever visit your establishment again. read more

The only reason we are giving a star is because that is the only way to post a review... We paid for an hour. We left after 35 minutes. The crowd was out of control. Staff made no effort to deal with it. We had lane issues. Next to us had lane issues. My son had an issue with a house ball. They basically told him too bad. Instead of listening to the issue, they chose to blow him off. Save your money. I for one, will not return. I would rather pay a couple bucks more for better customer service. read more

I would come again but would love if they made a few small fixes. Please play music at an audible level; you could barely hear it so we paid to play some music from their digital juke box. It was supposed to be glow bowling but the lights were on full blast. They advertise having food on their website but they only have pizza, nothing else which I was a bit disappointed by. Pizza, pitcher, 1 hour bowling was around $40. that's a steal. Horrible service from the moment we got in. Workers seem to not feel like working. As the games the lane began to act up and sooner or later service was called which last 5 mins. Ones it was done it happened again. Several times it happened the pins would not reset properly and we ended up wasted our money waiting and waiting. I went here for my nephews birthday party. There was a young Indian fellow that was very nice and respectful. But there was another young Caucasian gentleman there that was rude. The lanes, especially lane 4, continued to have malfunctions and when we ordered food, the food was not given to us and someone else took it. When we brought this to his attention, he wanted to go back and forth with us. Eventually he replaced it (as he should have). As the afternoon went on and the little kids were playing their last hour of bowling, there was a group of people that came in who apparently didnt like the fact that they had to walk through our group to get to the party room. They sent complaints which had a hint of a racial undertone which made us very uncomfortable. It wasnt addressed by management and that could have made the entire situation go bad. They had NOTHING for a kids party (plates, spoons, cups, napkins, tablecloths, etc.) and overall was a bad experience. Yes it was cheap, but I guess we got exactly what we paid for. I bowl here regularly in my social life. And weekly in a league. Overall I enjoy the place. But being in a league it's frustrating there are no drink specials or food specials. My entire team alone is half of the bar tab on a Tuesday night. Any league in any other bowling alley has specials or is able to BYO. The food is meh at best. And again the prices are a bit high. The lanes constantly break. But the staff is more then willing to attempt to fix them. The staff is most of the time fun. The service is what to be expected. Music when I'm there not on league nights, we shouldn't have to pay just for background noise. I understand paying for the exact song we want. But how about a little bit of music just to keep things rolling. I still will bowl here often for convenience But as far as s league is concerned I may be switching elsewhere. read more

I'm giving 2 stars cause the pizza was nice and hot and the kids had fun. Booked a birthday party there and day of come in and the manager told us our party was downstairs, when we booked it was told it was upstairs and they showed us the room and that we had the first 3 lanes because of this. So when we came in for our party the manager was rude and was like i don't know what to tell you but someone was booked before you. BUT no one was. Our party was the 1st one booked that day the employee wrote our reservation on the wrong day, they only do Saturday and Sunday's for parties and they put our name and down payment on Monday. So how am I at fault. So the manager was like whatever use that room, you'll be cramped but whatever. I wasn't going downstairs to the other party room because we were told that we'd have the first floor. We brought in 2 cases of water and he was like look your already doing something you shouldn't be doing. It says no where online you cannot bring water. He had an attitude from beginning to end, we didn't have to have our party here and will probably never be returning. Pizza was great, glow bowling was great. Staff wasn't great. read more

Called Playhouse on 5/23 to book a birthday party on 6/26 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm for my kids turning 11 and 5. Reserved two lanes with the Office Manager, Donna, over the phone and was told to come in within a couple days before the party to pay a deposit. Gave my name and number and confirmed the party. Sent out an Evite that day - excited that 12 kids and 12 adults RSVPed yes. We had worked hard to find a day/time that was convenient for as many people as possible. Called Playhouse on 6/22 to let them know I'd be coming in to pay the deposit in the next day or so. The man who answered the phone said no problem. Went in on Thursday 6/23 after work to pay the deposit. The man behind the counter got "The Book" and couldn't find my party. We looked at the date of my party and tried our best to decipher the messy scribbles all over the page. In the 4 - 6 pm spot, there was a party booked for the entire alley. My name was nowhere on the page. He was unapologetic and said I'd have to talk to Donna and that she'd be in tomorrow. So I called Donna in the morning and explained the situation. She said they got a booking for the entire alley that came in after my booking so they took that one. I asked her why she didn't call me or let me know or anything. All I got was an "oh well." So essentially, the money they'd get from the other party was way more important than respectful customer service. So after asking her what we could do to remedy the situation, she said she'd call the other party and ask if they'd let us book two of the lanes. We hung up and she called me back in thirty seconds to say she never wrote down the other party's phone number. She said she'd just leave the other party a note telling them that the last two lanes were for our party. Poor customer service all around. Needless to say, we won't be going to Playhouse again. We called Wynnewood Lanes right away, they had an opening during our time slot, and fit us in with no problem. The manager even gave me his cell phone number and we texted on Saturday to confirm everything. In the end, we had a great party. But it surely wasn't at Playhouse. read more

I'm surprised this place is still open. The place is ran down, the lanes are always jamming or the computer doesn't register the points correctly and the staff is rude. Avoid this place if you can. I was very diappointed with how the owner spoke to my nephew. I didn't found out until after we left. When my nephew returned from asking the owner a question about the score board, he told me he was done bowling and wanted to leave. I didn't think any thing of it and the following week when I asked him if he wanted to go back he told me no and told me why. Never Again! read more

Had a party for my son there. Feel as though the staff was prejudice I have a large Muslim family and we were not properly accomadating from the time we got there til the time we left. We're told there would be other food and refreshments that was a lie. Ordered extra pizzas only received 2 of 3 and then had to ask for my money to be refunded. Did not get bowling shoes for my party was told that children didn't need them. Low and behold the next party had bowling shoes on. Was rushed from bowling to party room then from party room to out the door. Filled out a complaint and just got a hey sorry. Prior to recently, I'd be inclined to give a more lenient review of Playhouse Lanes. It's not the best bowling alley in the area, but it's a bowling alley and the prices aren't outrageous. There's a small bar/kitchen, with an ok selection of beer. The condition of the bowling alley is just ok. It's not exactly 'nice', but it's not in utter disrepair. The machinery can sometimes be slow to reset the pins or might forget a couple, but generally the lanes work. The location is the biggest positive, the alley is directly adjacent to the Drexel Hill Junction. One thing I have to mention is the service. The employees at Playhouse Lanes are VERY offputting. Usually, I'm served by one of the teenage employees who visibly resent either being at work or being disturbed. What really bothers me, though is the older employee (who identified himself as Bill) who gave me a hard time. Shortly after renting a lane in the evening, I went to the employee to ask if the kitchen was open. He replied that the bar was open, but the kitchen was not. He did, however, suggest the pizza shop next door, and offered to call in an order. I said I'd need to see if my friends were hungry (a whole pizza is more than I can stomach). We agreed pizza sounded good. The alley began to get busy, though, so I figured to call it in myself. I called it in, I picked it up, and we had pizza. As I grabbed the second to last slice, Bill approached me and informed me of the "No outside food or drink" policy. When I explained that he himself had pitched the idea, he said that because HE had not ordered it, we could not have the pizza indoors. And so I took my pizza, went outside, stood in the rain, and ate my pizza. Fortunately, it was only a light drizzle. A couple minutes later, Bill came to the door, and said he didn't want me to stand in the rain, but that rules are rules. I responded that it seemed like a frivolous distinction to me, and that I shouldn't have to eat my dinner in the rain over a miscommunication. He responded that there was no miscommunication and insisted he was very clear. He then went on to inform me that if I had ordered through him, I would have gotten a discount, and that I would be eating inside right that moment. I told him that this didn't really help, and that I didn't appreciate being talked down to. Bill laughed it off and contended he wasn't talking down. At this point, I ceased conversation with Bill, who lingered briefly before going back inside. Now, this isn't some atrocity, and I understand that rules are rules. I really didn't appreciate Bill not only made me stand in the rain (rather than finish the mostly-gone pizza and being mindful in the future), but came outside and made something of a confrontation of it. If he had even said, "Sorry, but rules are rules," I would've been more understanding. But there was no apology, only smug combativeness. If he had nothing to say to me except an explanation of how wrong I was, he should've just left me alone. When I asked his name, he insisted that I call his boss the next day, assuring, "He'll back me up, you'll see." Frankly, I'm not concerned with whether his boss approves. I just want people looking for an incident free bowling experience to know what they're getting at Playhouse Lanes. read more

Not sure why this place has terrible reviews. My boyfriend and I randomly decided to a go bowling on a Sunday night a couple weeks ago. We first went to Sproul Lanes because we had just had ate dinner nearby. Sproul had a 25 minute wait. So, we decided to try Wynnewood lanes which is closer to our house anyway. We got there and there was a paper posted on the door that said no open lanes until 8. So we were thinking we just weren't meant to go bowling lol. But, then I vaguely remembered there being a place in Drexel Hill so we looked up Playhouse Lanes and drove over there. We were able to get a lane right away. The employees were teenagers like other reviewers mentioned, but they were friendly and helpful. We rented a lane for an hour which was only $15 for everything, which I thought was more than reasonable. It was just the two of us so we were able to get a decent number of games in within the hour. They also had glow bowling going on so that was cool. We didn't have anything food or drink so I can't comment on that. But, I really had no complaints. We had a lot of fun and would definitely come here if we want to go bowling again. read more

I bowl in a league at this place. It is a basic bowling center where they have a bar and a small selection of food options if the kitchen is open. The staff is nice once you get to know them, and will work with you if you are having an issue with your lanes. Some people complain that it is not a BYOB bowling alley, but they have a liquor license, so they can't let people bring outside food or drinks in. Just make sure that in the Spring and Summer that the AC is on because it can get hot in there very quickly. The center is a bit on the small side with only 16 lanes, but if you are looking for a good time, it will do. read more

I had such high hopes for this place as it is close to where I live and exactly the type of bowling alley I love. But Nafeesa hit the nail on the head. If an owner of this place is reading these reviews do yourself a big favor and fire every employee currently working there and start over. We walk in with a group of six and walk up to an empty front counter. We stand around for a couple of minutes before someone finally walks over to help us. The kid(I say kid because he was a kid, hoodie pulled up, head phones around his neck) walks up to us and just stares blankly at all of us.......mmmk. So can we bowl? He painstakingly punches some stuff into the computer and groans and moans as he gathers our rental shoes as if we are burdening him. We get set up on our lanes and I head over to the bar with my friend to grab a beer. The bar tender(I guess he was the bartender) is sitting in the corner with his headphones on, staring at his iPad. Again we stand there for a minute before he glances at us and back at his screen. He finally hits pause and walks over and stares at us blankly. Again, the feel of not being wanted flooded over me. "Yea?" he says to us. Well sir, I was really interested in discussing the difference between oil based paint and latex paint with you.....I WANT A DAMN BEER! Why the hell else would I be standing at the bar with money in hand? I don't know what it is about the employees here but they clearly don't want to be there and they make that known. We bowl a few games without incident and( other then all the employees just sitting around and staring blankly. Weird) finish up, get our shoes back on and head back to return our rental shoes. Again no one is at the desk for assistance. We drop our shoes on the counter and head out for the night....I don't get businesses that employ people who have to drive to help others. The purpose of an establishment like this is to provide a fun, inviting atmosphere to it's patrons. This place did the exact opposite. I can deal with crappy food, or broken machines or a bit of dirt and grime, that adds charm! But when a staff makes you feel as uninvited as these people did you will most likely never return. They certainly have updated the interior of the bowling alley. The computers and new TVs are very nice and extremely easy to use. However, there were many problems with the mechanics of the lane we used. Myself and 2 friends bowled 5 games tonight, and it seemed every few frames a newly set up rack had a pin fall down. Also,we had a many scoring errors in each game. mostly miscounts of spare numbers. Our overall experience was pretty good, we never had to call staff for any assistance and the ambiance was very nice. I do with their systems would show you what spares you had so if there was a hidden pin left, you knew abut it. The animations were nice, but not helpful or informative. But since the last time I was here, its is a far far better place to bowl than it was prior. read more

Worse service ever. We paid for our time to play here and.the lane they give us was the worse. They kept having problems and we just kept going to the counter to tell to fix it but all they did was temporary stuff in the back. Eventually the problems like the pins not resetting to the pin clearing thingy not going up. Their lanes are so terrible. They wouldn't even give us extra time for the problems. I bowl for the first time there a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time. It was not too crowded for a Friday night and we all had a wonderful time. There was no wait and the lane was available as soon as our party was there. The prices were right on point. Staff was awesome and provided clear instructions on what to do when 9pm hit. My friends and I went here very recently to celebrate my birthday. It was snowing a bit and they had glow bowling, and I'm a big fan of blacklights, so we thought we'd swing in. First impressions were meh. The place is very small and old fashioned and the glow aspect was only over the lanes, so our neon didn't glow very much. They do have a cute bar though and drinks are reasonably priced. We tipped the bar tenders nicely and he seemed like a friendly guy.They also have an internet juke box, which was another big seller. We paid for an hour and shoes and for a while we had a great time. We loaded up the juke box with tunes and went through our first game in under an hour. The assistants were pretty nice, and one of them even recommended that I use a heavier ball after watching my rolls. Our game finished a little before midnight and since we were having such a good time and since they didn't close for another hour the two guys in our group went up to buy another hour. We were actually three frames into the next game when our hour ended. To begin this, let me start by saying that the group next to us had JUST started a new game and were probably not even two frames in at the time. The guys went up to the manager since no one was working at the kiosk and asked if he could have someone come over to ring us up for another game. They were told that they were closing up early due to the weather (The 1, maybe 2 inches of snow outside, that had already stopped by that time). Still, his call. We still had maybe 10 bucks in the juke box so the guys asked if we could be refunded the money we had put in, since if we had known they would be closing early, we wouldn't have put in the extra money. The manager refused and said that it wasn't his place to give a refund because it's a contracted machine. One of the guys politely told him that he felt that it wasn't good customer service, as he is still making money off of the machine and should have informed us when he saw us put more money in, that they would be closing early. The manager simply replied "Sucks to be you." So the guys bargained and asked, since the team next to us still had 8 or 9 frames to bowl, if we couldn't stay and at least listen to the music we paid for until they finished their game. They weren't happy about it and remarked that their "lives weren't worth the 10 dollars we put in". Again, for an inch of snow. But they agreed. The boys said ok, that we would leave when the other group left, and came back to meet up with us. The manager turned all of the house lights on, and the boys went to check how much time was left on the juke box to evaluate our losses. The manager saw them walk over and told them "don't you dare put more money in that thing!" And then threatened to call the POLICE because we were being obnoxious. The boys were angry and came back to our lane to cool off and my friend and I went to try to explain things to the manager. We were completely blown off and any insistence that weren't trying to cause any trouble was met with "I don't care. You'll be sorry soon. The police are on their way." Which of course, they weren't. Not if they were trying to leave early. So we went back to the lane and decided to do as they had promised us, to sit and listen to what we'd paid for. So they shut off the music. I really love being threatened with legal action. We left shortly afterwards and obviously, with that poor attitude and terrible people skills I won't be going back, a shame since the alley is five minutes from my house. Don't waste your time at this dump and find your self a better place to get your bowl on. read more

I haven' been here in a long time, I always brought my son over when he was young his dad and I are divorced so when he would come over every other weekend I would take him here to bowl and play games. He also was invited to many birthday Parties at Playhouse. He is now 26 years old, I have not gone bowling for awhile and Playhouse lanes was amazing back in the day. Walked in with my five and three year-old girls. Only people in the place, 4:25pm on a Tuesday. We wanted one game. We were instantly yelled at from behind a darkened counter, "No bowling today." Not, "We are so sorry our doors were open, with no sign out front, but we can't offer you a bowling lane today, for whatever reason." But, "Eh, get out." I let those poor foolks know that the sign out front, about bringing your kid for a bowling birthday was a joke, considering your kid can't even get a game after school for an hour (or less)...nice way to make friends, and future customers. Thanks for the experience, I had a chance to learn my kids to what it means to always be kind and courteous to people who patronize what you do...I let them know that the people who run this bowling alley care less about us than another establishment does. So we went elsewhere. No wonder Drexel Hill is a dying suburb...because its "established" businesses are dying too, and waiting to be pronounced. read more
