My family suggested I put up the bumpers, but I toughed it out au natural. I mean, not naked, just without the bumpers. Then a fluke, I got a strike! Solid location for bowling. There was good availability here on a Friday evening for three reserved lanes, which you could take either as a good sign OR a bad sign, but at least for us, it was a welcome sign tonight. Service was curt and prompt, but we were able to get started bowling right away upon arrival. We did not have any basic issues with our lane, although for some of the more familiar bowlers, it seems like the oils were off on the lanes? Not sure what that means, but for us average joe's, we had a blast. Four games in 2 hours. House ball selection was mediocre. For some reason, their balls don't have the sizes on them, so you have to go by feel for the weight, and go trial by error. That being said, by the middle of the second game, we managed to find balls that worked for us, and we were off to the races. This place definitely has a community feel. Had a corporate event here and the staff (specifically Trudi) could not have been more helpful. She was so accommodating when we needed to change the time and even let us have the party room! Communication with her was fantastic. The place, specifically, was absolutely perfect for the corporate event. Bowling for those who wanted to bowl and tons of arcade games for those who didn't. While they had food and drinks there, I was also able to order pizza for delivery and have staff members bring food for a potluck. The lanes worked well with no issues and the seating was ideal for a large group to talk and bowl at the same time. This place is truly an authentic bowling alley and feels very retro, which I like (some of the newer alleys just don't have that *feel* - but this one does). I will definitely be back! Love their Sunday special. You get to enjoy your hearts desire of bowling without breaking the bank. Staff is so friendly and will make you smile when walking through the door. The only thing that is a bit annoying is the ball holder. It's triangle, so it's tough to grab the ball if it is on the other side of your lane. But this won't stop me from coming here. read more

I just love this place. Maybe I'm biased because it is so close to my home And because I bowl in a league there. And I bowl there every Sunday morning. And sometimes during the week. But whatever the reason, I just love this place. I started bowling with a friend for fun over winter and got to know the staff(Gloria), who told us there was an opening in their wed night mixed league. We decided to go for it and are so happy we did! We are the "new guys" in the league, but everyone is so nice and supportive even if we aren't great bowlers! It is WAY more fun than I anticipated, I look forward to it every week and started going Sunday morning for the 9-12 special, which is a bargain! They have a bar, and a food service area too. The chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks are quite tasty, and they have pizzas there too. I haven't used the pro shop but I hear they have one of those too! My friend paid for one hour but the actual amount of time we were able to play was boggled down by numerous issues during our rounds-- balls getting stuck, pins, the machine getting frozen leaving us unable to play. We got switched to a different lane, but that didn't solve anything and we were stuck with the same exact problems. I don't frequently bowl, but I do enjoy bowling so I decided to go to Wynnewood Lanes today with a few friends. First, Wynnewood Lanes is a very interesting looking building. It is very long and rectangular and has some interesting designs on it. Further, they have an indoor parking lot that connects to a stair-well. Once inside, you get the whole feel of Wynnewood Lanes. While it's pretty retro, it serves its purpose. I went up to the front desk and was kindly greeted by a lady who assigned me to lane #4, which was especially nice as it was mostly away from Birthday parties. Once I was at lane #4, the staff had already set up our first game with all of our names, which was very nice. I wish we were able to practice our bowling while we waited for our friends to come, but they had plenty of other entertainment available. First, they had a nice, large TV on showing the AFC Wild Card Game, a snack bar and even a full service bar. I heard from another member of my party that the wine was pretty solid. Finally, they also had a couple of vending machines selling snacks and drinks. They also had a vending machine selling gear including Wynnewood Lanes shirts. Finally, around the center of Wynnewood Lanes is a mini-arcade with arcade games like air hockey and what looked to be mini-rides. The actually bowling was very fun. While the variety of balls weren't great, most of the balls were of good quality. The lanes were nice and sleek as they were obviously constantly oiled and maintained. I do wish the animations once you got a strike or spare were a bit more interesting, but it was not too big of a detail to me. Like most other lanes you can rent shoes and use a house ball if you do not own one. Look on their website for open bowling, they usually run a deal on Sunday Mornings, where you can rent a lane for a few hours. Took some of the grandkids bowling last night at Wynnewood Lanes. We have never been here before but decided to give it a try. It is a family-friendly place and offers a nice array of snacks. My wife enjoyed her snacks: a pizza, 3 soft pretzels, a bag of chips, and 3 beers. She is more into eating than bowling. On the bowling side, the offering of balls was not up to par. The balls seemed pretty old and it was almost impossible to find a ball that the grandkids could use. They were either too heavy or didn't fit correct. That was a bit frustrating. Little Ivan got really upset because he tried at least 10 balls and couldn't find one that he could use. He finally just picked the best one he could, but it was difficult for him to bowl. I think they should do an inventory of their balls and replace some of the older, worn out balls with new ones. The bowling shoes they offered were pretty good, though. The lanes were also pretty good, except that it sometimes took a while for the balls to return. Larry and David bowled highs of 163 and 174, so they were pretty happy with the lanes. I don't bowl that often but I've been to my fair share of bowling alleys over the years. This one is definitely old school and not the modern upscale bowling alleys you find in CA and NY. Miscellaneous: * The people were quite nice and even checked on us while we were bowling. * Everything is older and therefore a bit worn. Shoes were serviceable but run a size large. Lanes looked beat up but didn't matter to us since no one bowled over 180. * There were lots of bowling balls but we had a hard time finding ones for our diverse group. Many of the bowling ball holes were too big / too small / broken. * You can get a dollar off by checking in with Yelp. Prices are relatively low already -- it's not upscale bowling. Cool place to take the kids and family! We bowled and had fun. The staff is also nice! It wasn't the cleanest and the snack bar didn't look the most appetizing however we had such a great time there as a family I'd return again. The staff was really nice and accommodating maybe making sure we had the right size balls and shoes and making sure that everything pretty much went well! Very retro place, straight out of 2002. We waited 1 hour for 1 lane on Friday night, but there was a bar, very good bartender, and some decent chicken fingers to keep us satisfied. I typically hate/ignore reviews that complain about little things...I don't even right reviews. In fact, this is only my second review ever. I just couldn't ignore the fact that this individual was a straight up asshole.... I called to ask a very simple question. "Hi! Is your bowling alley byob?" The guy that answered was so rude. His response, "No?? How would even that work? We have a bar. If we were BYOB the liquor control board would shut us down." I wish I could convey his condescending tone in this review... I took my business to McDade bowl instead (which was SO much fun btw, and byob). Voted among the best of Philly in 2006, Wynnewood Lanes is a pretty fun traditional bowling alley. it's a good place to joke around with friends, knock down some pins, toss back some Miller High Lifes, and find out who can spot the most Mullets (their are at least 3 among the staff members last time I checked. It also has some pretty good deals. during the Summer They have Rock N' Bowl Friday and Saturdays where it only costs $10 to bowl per person. they also have some pretty serious League play action going on. and you can print some pretty useful coupons off their website. It's ok. Customer service in person and on the phone is a little rude, like you are bothering them to do their job. This place is always busy, crowded, and uncomfortable. The last 3 times we came we left immediately bc the wait was too long, and they do not take reservations. The time we did actually get to bowl, the lanes and balls were nice. Its literally on stilts when you see it. but it was my stilts, I used to bowl here with friends in different lgs. Place is one of a kind lol, only place not handicap friendly. 24 lanes split in half.(12 on the left,12 on the right) They have a landmark/lifer called bruce. He is one unique guy lol. Lanes aren't the greatest, food they serve here is eh but they do serve food(pizza shop).they have a full bar . they do have a pro shop so if u need any type of equiptment theyshould have it. .it is great for kids if they want to learn how to bowl. arcades so if those of you who don't like to bowl and are under 21, there you go . The pizza is horrible. The cheese steak rolls was too well done. The bowling shoes were worn out. And I felt like they catered to their league teams. We were playing air hockey and while we were playing an employee was checking our scores and we was confused by that. Terrible pricing structure. Not only that, they have even worse customer service. Paying per hour is nonsense. Went through 9 frames, and the time went out. Instead of letting us finish 1 frame, or even pay a few extra dollars to finish (which i would understand) They instead made us pay for a whole new hour ($30) just to finish the 1 frame and get our scores. Its ridiculous. Had a good time, despite some issues. A lot of the bowling balls had cracks in the finger holes or were missing chunks from around the finger holes. This made selecting the right ball very limited. We got 2 games for the 4 of us. Throughout our play, one of the staff kept coming to our seats, making himself at home and striking up conversations with us. It became quite distracting. We got a 3rd game and about a third way through, they had a large school group come in. One of the staff approached us and said we will have to leave but they would give us 2 free games, but since we are only visiting, we told him that and he said just finish up then. Not sure if I would come back here. The balls were pretty beat up and the nosy staff member was odd. I did win all 3 games though! read more

Con artist liars that scammed us out of money on Groupon. They sold pizza and bowling packages for winter weekends and refuse to honor them. After traveling 40 miles from NJ we arrived to see a sign on the door saying that they will resume "Rock & Bowl" (what we paid for) on April 1st, one week after the Groupon expired. The old man working (with no name tag or official shirt) told me that he didn't care that we paid money or travelled and that all he could do was tell me to "Call Tommy" sometime during the week. I explained that it was the exact date for the Groupon and he told me that I should have call ahead because they decided to cancel open bowl. IF YOU HAVE A GROUPON KEEP A LANE OPEN! We handed them $30 for nothing and may not get a refund from Groupon because the coupon could have been honored but the guy was too stupid to call a manager and threw us out!!!! read more

Posting a check-in through Yelp gets you $1 off of the $12 unlimited bowling deal from 9pm-midnight, which is pretty cool. I came with a few friends on Saturday night and we had an absolute blast. The guys at the front desk are hilarious. They also had a DJ taking song requests all night, which he followed through on every time. At the bar area, you can open a tab, which is pretty chill. The bartender is very friendly and the beer selection is pretty impressive for a bowling alley. They also have a snack bar, complete with supreme nachos (amazing). The woman working there was equally nice. I honestly can't wait to come back here. It's a little run-down and the bathroom is a little grungy but I can guarantee that you'll overlook all of that once you start to bowl. This place is a ton of old-school fun. read more

Another blast, from the circus that was my past and I happen to know this place is still up and running. I grew up within walking distance of Wynnewood lanes. It was among the first places I ever walked ( or rode) to alone , or with friends. My earliest memories of WL, consist of being brought by my parents, when they played in a bowling league. I cared not, for the heavy balls crashing noisily into beleaguered pins, instead focusing on the many vending machines, serving sodas, ice cream and snacks. I distinctly remember the soda machine, it was one of the old ones that poured a cup full of shaved ice , before dispensing a few ounces of thickly sweet soda. I knew nothing else like it, and while I would be nauseated by it now, easily became addicted to it as a child. When given my usual stipend, for staying out of the parents hair, I often stood in the small vending alcove, undecided as making a decision was like "Sophies Choice" . Once I started caring about the glistening, noisy pinball machines, the decisions became even harder. The dawn of the arcade video game, coincided nicely with my being able to walk to WL unaccompanied. They always seemed to be on the cutting edge of new video games. Pac-man fever hit Havertown, as well as the world with an instant manic bang. Looking back , it was such a simplistic , no-frills game. A yellow circle, chomps dots in a maze whilst trying to escape ghosts, eating the occasional piece of fruit and "power pill" , which would allow him to change from prey to predator. Kids of today would scoff, at its simplicity, but ascending the wide, winding steps of WL and seeing it for the first time, surrounded by more than half of Havertowns pimpled population, was magic. Wynnewood Lanes was also the place, that introduced me to the other heavyweights of Arcade, such as Donkey Kong, Frogger and Dragons Lair. I received my first kiss at WL, in the underground parking area while the muffled sounds of crashing pins played overhead. I was 14 and in a teen bowling league with 2 of my friends. I made some great , nerdy friends that year and it was one of my first social endeavours that was co-ed. As we were playing one of the few female teams in the league, I ended up with a 7-10 split. A girl, who I only remember as Christine made the comment, " If you get that shot...Ill kiss you" . I was as shy as an awkward teenager could be, and I'm sure that I approached the shot , wanting nothing more than to miss completely. I'm not sure if God or fate was laughing with me or at me but I made the spare that day and would never make that shot again. I immediately turned around and stuttered, " I didn't mean that! I dont want the kiss!". Nothing more was spoken, until it was time to leave and she grabbed my hand, dragged me down the steps to the garage, like an executioner taking the prisoner to the guillotine, and quickly laid one on me, right on the lips! Nothing ever went beyond that. I'm sure I was supposed to make the next move, and in my stupidity.. didn't. I remember being somewhat jealous at the end of season party, when she began dating another bowler. This inaction became a theme throughout my teen years ( and into adulthood as well) The funniest moment, that I remember from WL, was once, after one of the above league matches, my 2 teammates and I decided to go creeking, on our way home. As we all traipsed through the creek, building dams and looking for crayfish, it was Doug, who looked down and realized he was still wearing bowling shoes. It was soon clear that we had all forgotten to exchange our bowling shoes for our regular footwear. Knowing that they wouldn't be happy that we soiled their shoes, we weighed whether or not to just cut or losses but eventually decided that it was fruitless to try and cover it up. Lets just say that our unofficial team name became " The Creek Boys" Like many of the places from my childhood, I havent stepped foot in WL for at least a decade. Seeing that McThrill has been there, gives it the credibility that warrants a return. I'm interested to see what video games they now have, and what is passing for snacks in the vending area. Ill be damned, however, if I'm letting some chick drag me down into that parking garage this time. read more

I played on a bowling league in Wynnewood, and it was a great place to bowl. Instead of one long row of lanes it's set up with the check-in desk in the middle and half of the lanes on each side, which allows for less crowds and more privacy. The bowling is reasonably priced, and on Sunday mornings you can rent a lane (regardless of how many people are in your party) for $25 from 9am-noon. They have vending machines, a hot food window and a full bar for any of your beer or liquor needs. They also have a pro shop where you can buy accessories, shoes, bowling balls and even get your new ball drilled. I can tell you from experience that there aren't many pro shops in the area, so this is a nice perk. Tip: The pro shop is technically separate from bowling alley, but if you call the Wynnewood Lanes line they are usually nice enough to transfer you over. Since this place has several leagues the lanes are always well-oiled and the electronic scoring works well. If technical problems happen (pins get dropped, pins need to be reset, etc.) they have specific people on staff who fix these things, and they are super quick. The staff is friendly and leagues are competitive yet laid back (well, at least the co-ed one was). This is a great place for anyone from serious bowlers to beginners. read more

This is a customer serviced based review only. I grew up going to birthday parties and gatherings at this bowling alley. As an adult, I do not bowl often but if it s fun suggestion on what to do I am up for it! I called to book lanes for my sister's 28th birthday party and chose to book 3 lanes at $65 a lane for two hours -6:30pm to 8:30pm. There were 18 of us going so we wanted to all be together and have a good time so I called 4 days earlier to book. They required a $50 deposit on the card to hold the lanes which was fine.The woman on the phone who took my credit card was very nice and polite. The place was crowded on a Sat night at 6:30pm and had great energy. We were ready to bowl and have a great time! There is also a bar which is great for my family who love to have their drinks at a celebration and the beers are reasonable priced. We were give lanes 14, 15, and 16. My only complaint with this place was the utterly rude and harsh customer service we received from the older man at the "cashier/shoe tower" from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. I wanted to confirm that the $50 deposit was on my card and the rest would be cash and he scolded me like I was his 6 year old child and acted so annoyed that were were there as he was giving us our shoes. We all walked away saying "Geez, he is grumpy" and laughed it off. We were ready to bowl and have fun! The issue we had was that around 7:30pm lane 14th an was constantly breaking down and an employee had to go back twice to fix it. And then it happened with lane #15. Listen, I get it. This an older bowling alley, things are not pumping along like a brand new model. Although it was a buzz kill as we were in the middle of the game, we had no problem waiting for it to be fixed and watching others in our party bowl. There was beer, friends, and family all was good-until the lanes 14 and 15 completely broke down with close to one hour left to go. We approached the "cashier/shoe tower" to ask if we all could move to two new lanes but there was only one lane open in the whole place at this time. We then asked to have our $65 back for the last hour because we could not bowl and to be to be fair with the situation and he flat out said no with such RUDENESS that it caught us all off guard. After commenting politely and trying to have him see about the "fairness" of the situation ( I may add) our case, he gave us $40 out of the drawer and aggressively declared "the owner is going to kill me for this" and turned his back to us. I just do not get this kind of customer service. We booked 3 lanes at $65 each and spent $100 at your bar with 18 guests. People come back when they remember how a business reacts to things when they go wrong, not right. We will not be returning and I would be mortified to have that definition of a "grumpy old man" front and center interacting with customers. read more

We just went with my family to try and get 2 lanes for 10 people. The older gentleman at the desk told us no lanes were open and that we probably won't be able to be together. That was fine and understandable and we stepped aside. The people behind us then went to the older gentleman and asked for 2 lanes. He told them yes and proceeded to take their card and charge them. When we asked why we couldn't get the 2 lanes, he proceeded to give us the run around and excuses. We kept asking him questions and he stopped and refused to answer them. I'm not calling him a racist but we were Asian and the people behind us were Caucasian. I haven't experienced this kind of disrespect or ignorance in a long time. Please avoid at all cost.
