Well...was planning on spending a few dollars there but due to an employee and her actions I decided not to. She followed me throughout the store (mind you I didn't have any oversized bags or baggy clothes), she stood outside my room while I tried on every outfit. So I figured she was there to help me (trying to think positive), but when I asked her to get me a different size on one of the items she looked at me very confused and said they didn't have any. Finally, I took about 10-15 items to the register at which point I asked her to confirm the price to me as she scanned them. That seemed to be a problem because she was just telling me the total as she scanned each item. When I asked her to please tell me each items cost it seemed to be a very unpleasant request therefore I said thank you for everything and walked out. (My total was def over $1,000). A guy walking into this place all of the sudden gets all sorts of ideas. We went in for halloween shopping (for her of course) since we reviewed online what their choices and prices are. The halloween costumes are very organized by theme, style and size. Price-wise I considered average, however they can go into the $100s. There is a $4 try-on fee. At first I thought this was ridiculous, but after speaking with an employee it makes sense. Some come in to take photos of themselves in outfits and walk out with nothing. Not to mention usually these costumes are made of thin material so they break. In the end, if you buy a costume they credit you the $4. Not too bad in the end. At first I thought it was just another stripper-ish store but once I walked in my mind changed. The front half of the store is dedicated to one of my favorite designers Ed Hardy. This place is oozing with his designs everything form Bathing suites for both sexes to pajamas and under wear. The prices are the same as they would be anywhere else so don't expect a price drop. Now on to to good stuff. One of the stores clerks told me they keep new merchandise flowing into the place all the time so if you see something you like grab it while you can. Movies toys and even instructional videos are all available for purchase but my favorite thing is the range of sizes. They have cute outfits and corsets that range from size 0 to size 18 for my more curvy girls. Playthings was recommended to me by a girl in my Step class when I told her I was looking for "proper" shoes for my pole dancing class. This place has shoes and sooooo much more! They have everything from exotic dancer costumes to sex toys and fetish wear to crazy contacts lenses. And theres a whole wall for just stockings (fishnets, fencenets, back seams, etc)!! The selection of "costumes" is fairly poor. Many of the "corsets" and "swimsuits" seem to be pretty much hand made (the tags just say "Playthings"), and pretty cruddy in quality. There's some regular clothes among the lingerie, and the selection of lingerie itself is okay. There's also a pretty good selection of toys. It is, however, VERY expensive- I found a lot of the same products on Amazon and such for much cheaper (many cheaper even when you had to pay for shipping). Where is the real problem? The customer service. The staff has the typical fake smiles and they're just barely paying attention to what you ask them. They also don't accept returns or exchanges- that's usually pretty understandable. The products are very personal and you wouldn't wanna end up buying a used vibrator or something right? Well, thing is, they won't accept returns for ANY reason. Be it that you need a different size (even if it's not lingerie), if there is a manufacturer's problem with a product, or even if THEIR sales people give you the wrong information on an item. I won't say what, but I bought an item there and was reassured of what the material of the item was like at the time of purchase. Problem was, then I opened iot, it was something completely different. Mind you they did not offer to open the box for me, because it was sealed with tape and such. When I called the next day to tell them the issue (that their sales person made a mistake in describing the product to me), they simply didn't want to help me. "We can't sell that item now," the manager said. That's right, you CAN'T, and you should take the loss for a mistake that YOU made. That's how business works. In addition, I found a similar product made of the material that I did want for more than 30% less online the next day. I will not be shopping here again. read more

What a bad experience I had here. I opened the door and was greeted before I could even step foot into the store. You would think that's a good thing until the young lady sweeping the floor immediately told me that if I want to go pass the curtain in the back I would have to show ID because that section was only for adults. She said it in such a way as if they were certain I was a minor trying to do an adult thing by even being in their store. I am 24. Her greeting made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I didn't care to correct her assumptions at that point and let her know I was not a minor, specially since I wasn't there for whatever is beyond the curtain of adulthood. I thanked her for the information and kindly proceeded into the store as I was solely interested in the costumes. As I walked through the store I realized I had a shadow. The girl sweeping the floor seemed to have been sent by a tough guy behind the counter to watch my every move. Wherever I walked, the girl swept right beside me, not even concerned about being discreet. After all, they probably thought I was just a broke kid in the wrong place so who cares how I feel. I tried to ignore it and act as if I didn't notice. After all, I'm not a thief so I tried not to mind their excessive supervision. But when the guy shouted from behind the counter, "can I help you?" I felt so out of place, so judged. I've never been treated like this before. I was only able to look through a handful of costumes before I walked out feeling humiliated. On another note, the couple of costumes that I did see, I couldn't help but notice how incredibly overpriced they were for the quality of their fabrics. If you look young, walk in with your ID hanging from your neck and you will most likely have a better experience. Before you decide to purchase a costume for $100 that you really liked here. Check online for it! You may save $80 paying what they are really worth! That's what I did! This place is such a ripp off!! And to the Playthings staff, thank you for making me feel so unwelcomed. You weren't completely wrong about me. I'm far from being a minor, a thief, or poor, but after looking through the quality of your costumes, I most probably wasn't going to spend any money there anyways!
