This is my go to Mexican when in Wilkes. Food is always amazing. Best cheese dip ever raves the kids. Very accommodating to my kids plain taco request and for the first time ever my 10 year old cleaned her plate of refried beans. Can't say enough nice things. Service is always friendly, quick, and kind.

Plaza Del Sol is in a strip mall/shopping center, and it's fairly unassuming from the outside. Inside is full of vibrant colors and murals. The service was quick and so chatty. There was always someone within three paces of our table, and the food came out so quickly. Chips, salsa and bean dip showed up (all warm and tasty). We ordered waters, tea, and a Dos Equis ambar and then took a look at the menu. As is usual with a Mexican restaurant, there are so, so many options. This menu had many of the regular options that people are familiar with, but there were a lot of other choices as well. I usually try to order something unique to the restaurant if I can. My only disappointment was I didn't see tamales or chile rellenos as an option. In the end I asked the waiter what he thought was the best dish, and then I ordered that. Unfortunately, I don't know what the "name" of it was on the menu. It was a half rack of baby-back ribs on a salad bed with a red sauce over top. The sauce was not like an enchilada or mole. I would say it was more akin to a thin salsa. The ribs were slow cooked and so tender. They tasted nothing like traditional american ribs but were really good. My dish came with beans and spanish rice. The beans were typical, kinda soupy with cheese on top. Nothing "extra" in either direction. The rice was pale, but the flavor was top notch. My wife ordered a fajita plate which had a bit of everything on it, steak, shrimp, chicken, etc. Her meal came with beans and a typical mexican salad. The fajita filling was excellent! Both meals came with hot tortillas to aid in the scooping and general enjoyment. I would definitely come back to this place.

Best Mexican restaurant in all of The State of North Carolina, Me my wife and son just moved to Jefferson NC from South Fl, My family knows Good Mexican Food and this place is it! The Chorizo Tacos are the best tacos I've ever Had, and my father is Mexican I know authentic Mexican food, Not only was the Food Amazing, It was equally matched by the owners service to cater to me and my family's needs, even made my wife a plate to her asking that wasn't even on the menus I mean the definition of customer service! read more

My husband and I enjoyed a very good dinner here tonight. To begin the meal, the salsa was outstanding and the bean dip was good and had a very good amount of spice. The entrees were well priced and very generous portions - so generous that we took some home for another meal. Very nice decor and atmosphere, wait staff very pleasant and attentive. This place has so much atmosphere! It is beautifully decorated with bright colors and lots of artwork. I have only been once, but the service was good and the food even better. The salsa is so good and fresh, and the portions are generous. The prices are reasonable if not on the inexpensive side. Looking forward to going back and trying other menu items. read more

I'd give them 6 if I could. Nachos were light, fresh and perfectly crunchy. Tortillas were grilled to the perfect texture. Meats and veggies also had perfect temp and texture. Very low prices and good service. read more

This is now without a doubt mine and my family's new favorite Mexican restaurant! We have ate at other Mexican restaurants in the same area but none had the authentic taste that we get at Plaza Del Sol. I'm addicted and find myself eating here three days a week. You can close your eyes open the menu blindly pick anything on the menu and your guaranteed it will be amazing. But the only complaint I have if you go there don't sit with a male server they are slow and inconsiderate we ran out of chips and drinks several times! Other than that it's great. read more

Surprisingly very good! This place is kind of hidden in a strip mall. It doesn't look like a lot on the outside but the inside is very spacious and beautifully decorated. Service was attentive without being annoying. The food was really good as well, generous portions and tasty ingredients. The price was fair as well. We will be back! read more

Very good for small town Mexican food. I had them change my chimichanga tortilla to corn tortilla bc I'm gluten free, so a big win for me. Debbie provided SUPER service as did the manager. Would definitely come back! Thanks for the hospitality! read more

What a find!! No doubt about it, this is a great restaurant. We have plenty of experience eating Mexican fare in the southwest and this place is the real deal. Tortilla soup was spectacular. Also excellent were the chili rellenos, chimichangas and the tamale. Portions sizes were great so no chance to sample anything else. Service was prompt and efficient. We live 2 hours away but may be tempted to drive back to Jefferson soon, just for this place. read more

We have been coming to eat here for several years now and were really disappointed in our last visit on a Friday night. We waited to be acknowledged for over 10 minutes standing inside the restaurant. Neither the waitstaff nor the manager acknowledged us in any way. The manager acknowledged and spoke to a number of folks who seemed to be Christmas tree farm workers and even sat a group who arrived after us. We will not be back. read more
