I had a very frustrating experience with my orthodontic treatment here. I paid in full for an unlimited Invisalign-style plan, but my case was later closed without my knowledge. I was told at my last visit to finish my current trays and that they would order more or remove the attachments afterward. Now I am being told I must pay additional fees just to have the orthodontic attachments removed and to receive retainers, which I believed were included in my original treatment plan. After being in trays for several years and going through multiple refinements, this has been extremely disappointing and stressful. Communication has been poor, and I do not feel my treatment was handled professionally or with clear expectations. I would encourage others to get everything in writing and ask detailed questions about what happens at the end of treatment. read more

This was my first time at Plaza Dental. Really liked the type and quality of care I received. Dr Langel and Lacey were great.

I was a patient of Plaza Dental Group for YEARS despite many changes in who my dentist was and the dental hygienist (I had at least three main ones over the years, and have nothing but positive things to say about them). During recent major storms in Central Iowa where there was a severe storm warning, I attempted to call to say I was not coming due to the storms and being told to be in a shelter. Nobody answered, I assume because they were also in shelter. The storm warnings and sirens happened several times that day. Eventually, I called again and reached someone and said I was not coming because of the severe storm warnings and the constant changes in the weather. Both of my children were in shelter right before this call at their respective schools in West Des Moines, so it wasn't like I was being ridiculous. Instead of having a normal response, I was told I would have to pay $50 for cancelling within 24 hours. This was despite the fact there was a legitimate safety issue. No joke, my invoice for $50 for cancelling came just TWO days later in the mail. I am appalled that a dental office I have visited for 10+ years would so casually care less about the safety of their clients, and then have the audacity to send me a bill almost immediately thereafter. I will never go here again and would strongly discourage others. As this was posted elsewhere, I did receive comment from other friends about other negative customer service experiences here. Again, while I find it silly, I would generally have been fine paying the $50 cancellation fee as I was aware of this policy (which of course they didn't use to have) and understand "no shows" cost them money. However, it's another thing to fine me when there was a legitimate safety issue. A teeth cleaning is not worth getting killed over. read more

Update: Also... after writing this review I received MANY unwanted phone calls and messages from Dr. Mohan and the staff in her office. They contacted me when I posted and still in November 2022 Dr. Mohan messaged me to try and get me to take down my review. PLEASE do not use this office. I am still dealing with all the horrible work she did on my teeth that I didn't even need. The dentist I saw after her was SHOCKED by the amount of work I had done when my teeth weren't even in bad shape. I was a CHILD when I was a patient and I didn't know any different. So now being an adult and having been dealing with all the issues she caused I decided to review my experience. The worst being she caused me to have two root canals, one was immediately after work she did hitting my nerve and the last was within the last 5 years. Thankfully my dentist after Dr. Mohan saved my tooth for a few years but he said I would need a root canal eventually due to how much damage was on the tooth and being so close to the nerve. I couldn't chew on that side of my mouth for a few years until I finally got that fixed. I now have an extreme fear of the dentist. I had extreme cold sensitivity as well. My teeth are still sensitive but thankfully I have finally fixed all the bad work she did. Most of the fillings I had were leaking which could cause bacteria to get into them. Since fixing all the issues I have not needed more work other than routine cleanings. But others deserved to know about my experience. Please do not trust her with your children. My mom went there because she liked the relaxed atmosphere and that they did paraffin wax treatments on your hands while you got a cleaning. But she regrets sending me there as she saw how much pain I was in. For everyone's information I was a patient around 2006-2007 and her office asked why I waited so long to write a review. I was a child when I was a patient. I had no idea how to hold them accountable. Just within the last few years I've found a dentist I actually trust with my teeth and that has helped me to understand that what she did was wrong. As well as dealing with the repercussions of her dental work for the last 17 years. Please do your research as I'm not the only one who has had a bad experience. I hope she has learned from her past mistakes and doesn't do unnecessary work or not care when her patients are in pain. However, I would proceed with extreme caution. I only posted this update as the office seems to desperately want me to take down my review. Instead they got an update with a more detailed version of my experience. To Dr. Mohan and the staff of her practice. I do not want anyone to reach out. I will not delete my review. I have explained why I waited so long to write a review as well. My experience was extremely awful and caused me a lot of pain and others to fix the work you did. If anything I really hope you would just apologize for causing this and we move on. I have hope that you can change for the better but unfortunately your actions to discredit my honest review leave me to believe you haven't changed from my previous perspective. read more

I HATED going to the dentist. Because of that fear, didn't go for 3-4 years. Luckily I didn't have any major problems, but the work that I did have done was all thumbs up. Professional office and hygienist staff and GREAT Drs. Love Drs Jensen and Mohan. My fear has been quelled and I will continue to return to Plaza Dental every 6 months. read more

Don't go there!!! I have never experienced that much pain. They just set you down and try to go as fast as possible! During my exam and cleaning they just wanted to sell me product after product. They make you pay upfront BEFORE you get service. Plaza Dental Group treated me terrible. read more

Moved to DSM and google searched Dentists. This one was close to home and had good reviews (a few bad but who doesn't expect that). Believe the 1 star reviews folks. Erroneously stayed here for nearly 6 years. If you want extremely overpriced care by generally incompetent people, this is your place. The exceptions- Dr Jankowski and hygienest Sarah. Dr Jankowski really does care about people. I feel like he's pretty skilled and has a great bedside manner. Hopefully like all the other dentist at plaza (they rotate often and you rarely see the same dentist), he leaves quickly and goes to a better facility or opens his own place. Sarah is a hygienist and has a great personality and again, seems to care. I've had to go back so many times to have work fixed or tweaked in the last 6 years, it's ridiculous.The final straw was a crown by a dentist that left, ultimately a root canal needed, and constant pain for months. I'm still having issues and Plaza refuses to fix the crown. I've filled a complaint with the BBB and the dentistry board for incompetent care. This should have been fixed long ago. Also be aware that any credit that you have for overpayment, they will not notify you. I had over payments sitting on my account for months (over $100) and they never told me. Shady, shady stuff. Do you yourself a favor and also google any pending legal actions against the facility/ owner for general incompetency. read more

Tried this place out as a first time client, and was very satisfied. The hygienist was friendly, knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable. I appreciated how they took a picture of each individual tooth in hi def, and then sat with me and went over every picture. Definitely my new dentist office! I was looking for a new dentist with evening hours. I received a mail offer for a free exam and $59 cleaning. BEWARE! I ended up using my insurance and still having to pay $70 out of pocket - $271 total. I spent the entire appointment turning down ridiculously expensive extras. Make sure they are in your providers network. I was told over the phone yes, but they are not a MetLife network provider. read more

The people are sweet so you believe them. I was "misled" by one dentist and was told they would make it right. I received no billing for work done on my 90 year old mother in May until I got a friendly reminder for $1647.00 right before Christmas and a letter from a collection agency dated Jan. 9th. My son had a painful canker sore when he woke up the other day and Plaza Dental Group was able to get him in a little after 7am before he needed to be at school. Dr. Stevenson was so friendly and gentle. My son didn't feel any pain or discomfort with the laser treatment. I would definitely recommend this office! read more

This dental practice tries to wow you with little perks like hot towels and wax for your hands, but when it comes to ensuring your teeth are in good health, they could care less. At my last appointment, my dentist did my filling, did it again when he found an air pocket. Then, he found an air pocket again but didn't have time to fix it for a second time. Plaza offered to pay for the repair but when I tried to get the adjoining tooth fixed at the same appointment, they told me I'd have to pay for that service in full because my dental insurance changed carriers. Went for a cleaning and hygienist told me I needed to come back for a second appointment for a 90 minute expensive Deep Cleaning due to possible gum disease I do not "yet" have. She refused to do the regular cleaning or let me discuss it with the dentist. Subsequent research tells me that a deep cleaning would do more harm than good with my teeth - just a money making scam. read more

***BEWARE*** ***BEWARE*** Plaza Dental Group ***BEWARE ! My Story.....it's long, read on...went to them based on research, education and location. Had I read the reviews here, I would have chosen someone else. I went there near the end of last year. I had a removable bridge for 3 years prior to contacting PDG. I still had some insurance left from that year to use, and of course Jan 1 would have new benefits kick in. I asked for input, suggestions, recommendations. I did not know the life span of my bridge (as I said it was 3 yrs. old already), and with the improvements in Dentistry, I felt an upgrade (dentures, implants etc) would be beneficial. Holy shit was I wrong! Went in, got COMPLIMENTARY xrays, very thorough, cool. Looked at my teeth, said need cleaning, but life span of bridge was ok. Next visit, said need MORE xrays, at MY cost of course. Before I left, was on the hook like another reviewer for $800! Next visit, male Dr. comes in, looks at teeth, says "oh, this one has to come out" 1 minute later, it was out. BUT, turns out that tooth was the ANCHOR on that side for my bridge! So now my bridge won't stay in! (Think sunglasses with just one arm). I questioned the pulling of that tooth, AND how was my bridge to fit now? No problem they say. All they did was try to stretch the wire on that side ALLLLL the way to a back tooth....leaving a wire running the length of my mouth that my tongue was getting caught on. Female Dr. says, "no problem, in a few months, you won't even know it's there". Huh? It's ALWAYS going to be there. STOP! Right here is where someone should have said..."when we pull this tooth, since it is the ANCHOR, your bridge will no longer fit, we recommend dentures.". Nothing was said. Instead, they said would send bridge away for modifications. A week later, back for the new bridge, I look at it and say, "weren't there suppose to be 2 teeth added to this"? Male Dr. looks at notes and says..."OOPS...SORRY"! We will send it back? Sends it back, meanwhile cleaning is done. So I have had a second complete set of xrays charged to me, a cleaning and one tooth pulled...I was out over $2500 ($800 cash, rest insurance). I know, right! Next visit...ugh..now they have spent ALL of NEXT years Insurance too! .Looked at bridge, they added 2 COSMETIC teeth to bridge, NOTHING to attach the wire to!!!! AND, they CUT THE WIRE!!!!! Now there is NO WAY to keep the bridge in! Went on vacation...while away, they sent me a "We are cancelling you as a client" letter. So today, I can no longer even wear my bridge, that has fit for 3 years prior to their "handy work". So now I have a huge gap in my face that my bridge covered. When I don't wear it, I spit, when I do, it falls out. And it is so tight on the one side, THAT tooth is becoming loose as well. I am out about $ 3500 in insurance, still on the hook for $800...I am FAR worse off than when I went in there. I am patiently seeking Legal representation to file suit against these people. I don't even have the Insurance to GET Dentures now. SO I cannot work, ( I am in the Healthcare Industry) and deal with clients all day. ***PLAZA DENTAL GROUP......I was rough, but truthful in my review.... But I will extend an offer to you, as I did before, for a shot at redemption. I will retract this review, and write a new, positive one under the following conditions. You put in Dentures (up and down), at YOUR expense, AND pay the balance of the $800 I am on the hook for, and I will cease my search for legal representation. My husband and I both went to this dental group. They made him pre-pay for covered work and then wouldn't refund his money ($1,000) for 3 months after insurance had already paid them. They led us to believe they were in-network and then blamed us for not understanding that when they said that they "accepted" our insurance that it actually meant that they were not in network. Very poor customer service and very unprofessional/highly suspect business practices. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I had lots of work that needed to be done and allowed them to do some of it. The prices kept changing and they were always higher than what they quoted me. They made me a flipper and it was shotty craftmanship. When I brought it to their attention they gave me the deer in headlight look. On my last appointment the Office Manager told me I owed $500 when I had prepaid for that appointment. She argued with me and told me I had to set up a payment plan before I could leave the office if I wasn't going to pay it in full. A few months later they never took the money out and sent me to collections. I called to ask why and they said they have no record of me setting it up. In my file the Office Manager wrote that I refused it and left. I will NEVER go back. They are thieves who prey upon people in need and they do shotty work. read more
