This is a smaller movie theater, located within Plaza Frontenac. Please note there are several steps to get into the theater but they do offer a wheelchair elevator, but that may require assistance from a staff member. One thing unusual about this theater is there is not a concession stand. Bring your own snacks and fill up your water bottle before you go in because the bathroom and water fountain are not within the theater complex. I can no longer recommend this cinema until the current renovation is done, (which they are open during this process). Considering ticket prices, hard, flattened out seats, uneven sound, no fresh popcorn and a bathroom across the mall is not a desirable movie going experience. I don't visit concession stands in theaters so I can ignore the "going to be remodeled" concession stand. Frontenac staff didn't make the concession stand inoperable; corporate did - as they did with several other Landmark theaters. Staff is beyond great. They remember repeat customers and greet everybody in a friendly manner. I love the movie selection. I sincerely hope Cohen Media is not forced to close this theater next month because of Cohen's loan default last summer. (Mark Cuban: please repurchase Landmark theaters!) read more

Quaint little theater in the "mall" that actually shows decent, independent films. I cam from the City if that says anything. I was at least less than half the age of most of the patrons, and had my full slut dress on, which was perfect for those rich judging eyes condemning me straight to hell. I had a mocha, which was good, and they used Kaldis coffee and powdered chocolate. The popcorn was pretty good and prices were normal. Also, the popcorn seasoning wasn't even anchored to the condiment table. High class, folks. Ticket price was $9. read more

After seeng a double feature at LPFC, I figured it was time to write an update to my review. When I re-read my previous review, I realized much had not changed and I honestly could cut and paste a couple of paragraphs. Wonder if Yelp allows that? Any way, I still love that this theatre is more like an art house, in that it brings independent and foreign films to the STL market. The selection of movies alone, is why I bumped them up to 4 Stars. As stated in my previous review, the size of theaters are small with a gradual slope in the seating. The seats do not recline, but are comfortable for my size and they have a cup holder. I felt very relaxed while I watched my movie. Where I could cut & paste in the following paragraph: It was a nice touch that the projectionist came in before the movie and introduced himself. He also talked about the theater, services and thanked us for choosing Landmark. That was customer service you'd never see at a Mega theater. (This is a simple touch, that I like.) As my previous review, the concession stand employees are always the problem. One young Millennial got flustered and kept calling for help from her co-workers. She finally gave a big sigh, looked at me and said, "I guess I can go ahead and take your order." I only needed a small popcorn and soda. She managed to pull herself together and provide me with my movie treats. Once she completed my order, she insisted she needed help. (They were not that busy.) As stated in my previous review, do not be intimidated by the location of this small boutique theater. It may be located in an upscale mall, but it welcomes everyone who love a good movie. When parking, I highly recommend parking on the backside of the mall and use the mall entrance down from Saks Fifth Avenue. I love this cinema. Before the movie starts, the projectionist comes in and says if there are any problems, or if it gets too hot or cold, that you can go to the concession stand and let them know. I love going to see what we call the artsy-fartsy movies. Many of these are independent films that are not shown at regular theaters. They also sell the same treats that the other cinemas offer with a large variety of flavored popcorn. See you at the movies. read more

I have only had bad experiences at this theater. Multiple incidents of sold out ir over sold screenings and a screening where the ac has gone out. You have to leave the theater and go into the mall to use the restroom. The location is way out of my way. Its gotten to the point where if this is the only theater where a movie is playing, i simply wont see the the movie theatrically. Do NOT recommend. read more

I felt the need to update my review as this evening I experienced something that had not previously happened before viewing films at Plaza Frontenac Cinema. While I am still a fan of this theatre, I did find the constant wheeling noises behind the screen incredibly distracting while watching the Downton Abbey film in theatre 5. I'm not sure if this happens only at certain times behind the theatre screens, but it was rather consistent during the screening and was quite noticeable. read more

This is my absolute favorite place to catch a flick. Why? One word: POPCORN. It is seriously the best I've ever had. Every time I go it's hot, fresh, perfectly salted, and (I think the secret to the success) REAL butter. So. freaking. good. They also have fun/gourmet snack and drink options like seasonal local beers and salted chocolates. Onto the theater...it's well kept, nice seats, and crowds are always mild. Partly because they do play some movies that aren't in major theaters like documentaries, foreign flicks, etc. They do play some mainstream but not always. I check the movie listings often as they usually have a hidden gem I don't hear about by advertisement that are good nonetheless. Go. Enjoy. But be warned...it will ruin you for other theater experiences! read more

This theatre is *inside* the plaza Frontenac mall, so to get to the entrance, go in the door closest to Saks and then go upstairs. The theatre itself is fairly small, but it's clean and the staff are nice. Concessions are normal movie theatre items and prices, and they do have beer/wine here. As with the other Landmark theatres in the area, they do run a wider variety of indie, international, etc films compared to some of the other big theatre chains, which is the main reason I go to the effort of driving out here. read more

Landmark Theatres' Plaza Frontenac location is a far cry from the Tivoli Theatre. Only St. Andrews is more underwhelming and that part of St. Charles puts on no airs at its dollar cinema. My chief complaints are that the auditorium and screen were small, the seats small and uncomfortable, and the view disappointing (no stadium seating). Additionally, the theatre has no restroom. You have to walk out of the theatre and down a hallway to find the facilities. The women's room's stalls were scratched and in want of replacement. Good concessions offered. But I can see the same films at the charming Tivoli, so I don't think I'll bother again with this generic mall theatre which can't get the mall theatre experience right. read more

Things I like about my first experience at Plaza Frontenac Cinema: plenty of parking (even some shaded parking), easy entry, good popcorn, relatively brief previews (wow!), and no super-loud sound, so no need for my foam earplugs (double wow!!). This reminds me of the way a movie theater used to be, before everyone got way too enamored with special effects and surround sound technology that rattles your teeth. Omg! This place, coming from indie theaters in the DC Metro area... TOPS all of it! TOPS! It doesn't make the old intellectually indie people have to go to some old obscure place. And it doesn't make the regular indie crowd have to sit for 2 hours in some crazy old theater that has been converted to an 'indie' theater. Ok, I would even say it's more fun that AFI in Silverspring. AFI is more like - film experience - film festivally-oriented. This place is so cushy, intimate, and worked into the most high-end mall that I've seen here so far. If you're my peeps in VA and you're reading this, just think about the Tysons Galleria, cut the size in half, fill it with calm people (not tons of kids), and nice coffee shops...neiman marcus and louis vuitton included, and a totally hidden movie theater where you can enjoy GOOD espresso beverages, get your drink on, or whatever, and feel classy about it. This cinema was a really nice surprise. If you come visit me, we are going THERE. :) Just saw Inside Job. Incredible. It's nice to be able to sit through a 2 hour documentary and not feel like you have to go to the chiropractor the next day. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. If you're a metro DC peep, think about the intimacy of the indie theaters in georgetown or dupont circle - intimacy without the ghetto part. Love it! And Saks is right next door! read more

The Plaza Frontenac Cinema is among some of my favorite theaters here in St. Louis. Located in Plaza Frontenac Mall, the theater plays mostly first runs of independent films that you are most likely not going to find in your every day run of the mill mega theaters. I have always enjoyed going to see a movie at the Plaza Frontenac. Each time that I see a movie there, I never really have to worry about a noisy audience or a baby crying during the middle of the movie. Maybe that is one of the main reasons that I enjoy going to a movie there, the audience actually is considerate to the other moviegoers around them. The theater also has never failed me with the showing of a film either. Never once have I had a movie be interrupted due to difficulties with the projector or the lights all of a suddenly coming on. Never have I had a problem there of any kind. The Plaza Frontenac is a great place to go see a film. Most likely they will be playing the film that you want to see, but for some reason or another it is not among the many thousands of popcorn flicks at the mega theaters. As our movie was getting ready to start, a staff member came and spoke to the theater about wanting to make sure that we all had a wonderful experience and they would do whatever it takes to ensure that happened. The prices at the theater were average and the place was clean. Important to note that there are not any bathrooms in the theater, but because it is located right inside the mall, you do have access to some. They were promoting food from several different restaurants, but I didn't really feel like the seating was suited to ordering anything other than the usual movie food. Wow, this theater reminds you of days gone by. The original seating and no reclining chairs here! You are brought back to nostalgia of the good old days of movie watching. No pre assigned or picking seats in advance. You pick your seat as you find what's open. What a novel idea! I really did enjoy the feeling of the good old days. But I honestly do love the newly modeled movie theaters and they are so much more comfortable. I also love that the prices here for tickets are more price point friendly too. There are restrooms way down a hallway on the other side of the concession stand. I will say the actual movie screens are also a bit dated as well. So you don't seem to be getting the same screen quality when you are viewing your movie. It was nice to visit and see this theater, but I love my reclining and warming leather seats at the bigger cineplex. Its a great place to relive your old movie memories. read more

Nothing special here, except $9 for a matinee -- pretty steep, IMO. We bought our tickets at the concession stand, and they never took them as we entered the theatre. Seats were fine. There were probably 12 folks in the theatre. We did have a pre-movie visit from the projectionist (never experienced that before), who talked about ability to adjust sound levels and theatre temperature. I've been to this theater a bunch of times now, and it really is one of my favorite places to see a movie. Yes, the theaters are small and don't offer stadium seating...but these are my only complaints. I LOVE that it doesn't feel like a big box experience. I LOVE that they offer beer, wine and cocktails that you can take into the show. Last night I ordered a Colorado Bulldog which came in a real glass and was basically a White Russian with a little Coke added. The bartender said it was a great choice and he was right! I LOVE that people at this theater know how to behave at the movies. They don't talk, text, or giggle loudly. Even the rare teenagers that show up here on a weekend night have been taught how to behave in public. If you want to see a PG or PG-13 movie on a weekend night, there honestly is no better place than Frontenac. I LOVE that the staff is friendly and really wants you to have a great experience. The manager was selling tickets when we approached the box office, and we hadn't yet decided between two movies. Standing a few feet back from her, we mentioned out loud the 2 choices and she immediately jumped in and told us that one of the movies were were considering was really stupid and we definitely should pick the other one. Or any other movie but the stupid one. I asked her if she offers her opinion when people aren't debating between 2 choices and she said that if she doesn't have a line she will try to talk people out of bad movies. Parking is easy....this is a mall and they close early in the evenings, so it's easy enough to get a spot near any entrance. The theater is on the Saks end of the mall, upper level. Park by the middle front entrance and it's a just a short walk. Now if they would just get stadium seating, I would be there for every movie. It's not a big deal if they aren't packed, but I'm short and hate having to dodge back and forth to see around the head in front of me. read more

I was forced to go to this theater twice this week since the movies I wanted to see were not playing anywhere else. The best quality of this venue is that they often show more obscure movies that are harder to find at the mainstream theaters. I was able to see the last few Best Picture nominees before the Oscars on Sunday. Each time I've been here the box office was closed with a sign stating to get tickets at the concession stand. This causes confusion and inconvenience for those only wanting to get tickets and not concessions. The staff moves slowly and inefficiently without any enthusiasm. There is usually only one person working the concession/ticket line even during "rush" times. One occasion there was a second worker, but he kept going back and forth from helping the other cashier to manning his own cash register for those who just wanted tickets. At one point they were debating about who was going to make a Cappuccino for a customer, making her wait while other customers in line behind her were getting their orders filled. Cappuccinos must be a bit more involved to make. The auditoriums are small with no stadium seating. The seats could be more comfortable. There is no bathroom near the auditoriums. I wish there was a designated theatre entrance. I'm still not sure the best place to park when just going for the movies. The prices are comparable to other locations. And they do offer some unique concession choices including a full bar. read more

I generally enjoy a visit to this movie theater. The movies they show lend themselves to a basic old style movie theater which is what this is. They never have special effects and you don't need stadium seating or 3D. The ticket prices are fair and the snack selection is pretty good. You can even bring a drink into the theater with you! When I was a child, my mother used to say that I was an "old soul". I think that was her gentle way of telling me that I've always acted like an old lady. And never is this more apparent than when I'm geeking out over the type of movie (ahem, "film") you can only find at the Landmark Plaza Frontenac Cinema. Yes, I like films with subtitles (it's like watching a movie and reading a book at the same time...I believe that is what you call a "two-fer") Yes, I have an aneurysm every time someone blazes up their smartphone screen during a movie, and oh yes, I will testily shush you if you talk once the film has begun. When I'm at the LPFC, I am amongst like minded people. We all love subtitles. We get excited to watch a film that came out years ago and we already own on DVD, just because we love the "cinematic experience". And you never have to worry about the glare of a smartphone during a movie, because most of the patrons are too old for smartphones. People are subdued, there is no rowdiness or talking during the film. And of course, the selection of films is awesome. Oh, they also have ice water and cups at the far end of the concession stand. A nice touch for us old ladies who don't like to spend $5 on a bottle of water. read more

When I want a quiet place to go see a movie, this is it for me. The staff are courteous and very accommodating. The theater is very clean, and the popcorn is good. A self-service ice water carafe is always available. I estimated once that the median age queued for tickets was approximately 65, thus no immature giggling or loud talking during shows. Having come to this theater a fair number of times, I can say hands-down that I prefer to go to the midday and midweek showings, as the madhouse factor ratchets up on the weekends. Yes, the seats are small and I often have to look at the movie running times to judge whether it will be worth it, as anything over two hours here is generally not to be entered into lightly. I recently caught two films here: "Thin Ice" and "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen." At times it seems that certain movies ("Midnight in Paris" and "Iron Lady") stick around for weeks, if not months, at a time, while other titles that look intriguing are in and out in one week's time. Overall this is a great alternative to the big box movie houses and I especially enjoy being able to peruse the fine retail establishments of Plaza Frontenac before and/or after the shows. read more

Plaza Frontenac is my favorite place to see movies. They always have the latest indie flicks, and the staff will bend over backwards for you. Their movie selection also ensures that you won't be distracted by little kids. Also, they have a full bar! The bartender is super nice and he makes awesome martinis. Of course, they screen the best and most interesting movies. The problem: they are too far from the City dwellers. The staff is courteous, and a bit non chalant. Thought they are a small theatre, the screens are wider than at other small theatres. I love this theatre for many reasons. One, it is housed in a lovely shopping center. Granted, I don't actually shop here, but I love Cardwell's and Canyon Cafe, so it makes for a more convenient night out when I decide to do a dinner/movie combo. Two, it has a nice variety of films that I don't have to beat the crowds or parking issues on Delmar. And given the single run of the Hi Pointe, if I don't like a film, I'm out of luck. And yes, the are sometimes options at the Chase, but that too poses a congestion/parking problem. I never have a problem at Frontenac. Plenty of parking, lots of space in which to roam about. Plus, the bathrooms there are splendid! I know, I said splendid and bathrooms in the same sentence, but seriously, the ones on the lower level are like the Ritz Carlton of bathrooms. You get your own staging area with sink inside. And leather couches. I can't help it. I don't like public restrooms, but this one works for me. Three, they serve Mighty Leaf tea at the concession. Yes, it's at a premium, but what did you expect in Ladue? read more

Given the choice between any of the Landmark Theaters, Frontenac is my last choice. I only go here by force when a movie I want to see isn't anywhere else, so film selection is definitely the one thing Frontenac has going for it. With the possible exception of popcorn and soda, everything here is more expensive than a normal theater, including other Landmark Theaters. Sure, you can take alcohol into your show, but why would you want to pay that much for the alcohol and extra for the ticket? The only good thing about the concession stand is the coffee, which isn't nearly as over priced as everything else. The theaters are small. Usually it's not too much of a problem because I'm one of maybe 5 people in the theater. Anytime there is more than two other groups of people in a movie, the other patrons are loud or otherwise rude throughout the film. I'm not sure if it's the people themselves or that being confined in a smaller space makes me notice them more. The other downside is that I feel like I'm in some person's private theater; why the small screens? By the way, is it just me or do other people feel weird going into Plaza Frontenac dressed casually? In the last movie I saw, the two women sitting in front of me were wearing fur coats. It made me feel a little out of place with my ratty sneakers and t-shirt. read more

The theaters are nice and small,very intimate you can really get involved in the movie provided two things are in your favor. One: Make sure no one tall is sitting in front of you because there is no stadium seating in this theater. You can't control this to a certain extent. Two: Popcorn is served in bags, rather than cardboard containers, a big mistake. Every time a person reaches in for popcorn the crunching noise from the bag can be very disturbing for those sitting nearby. I'm hesitant to attend this teater for those two reasons. Plaza Frontenac Cinema is my friend and I's favorite place to see indie movies. The location is in a super nice part of town, the prices are affordable, the staff is friendly, and the snacks are good (the popcorn is always good, they make good lattes, and I don't drink soda so I appreciate that they have a water cooler with lemon and free cups). Another nice touch is that the projectionist usually speaks to the crowd before the movie and---besides asking us to silence our cell phones---asks us to tell him/her if the temperature is too hot/cold or the volume is too loud/quiet. read more

So, I definitely can't afford to actually shop at Plaza Frontenac, but I absolutely love seeing movies here. I really like independent movies, and let's face it, most of the mainstreams movie options nowadays aren't the most stimulating. I like that I can always count on coming here to see out-of-the-ordinary movies that you could never find at a Wehrenberg or AMC theater. They always show buzz-worthy movies that generally get praise from the critics. Also, they have several theaters so there's always several to choose from. Some of the theaters are pretty small, but they're never super-packed so that's okay with me. I also like that you can get a Schlafly or an O'Fallon beer here. No complaints here!
