Stopped in this morning for breakfast after washing the car! I have to say this Diner is checking so many boxes. Talk about Nostalgia, the choices on the menu, the staff, the service, the food, the music playing, the ole timey juke box on the tables. The food was spot on in my opinion. I had the Veggie Skillet with a ham steak, not with the bone-in, but still classic diner breakfast items and more. I tried to finish what was there but was stuffed like a on Thanksgiving! They have a cruise in Thursdays from 5pm-8pm. There was a white 92 Corvette parked out front, pulled my 17 Camaro right behind it Oh yeah! A group of six had breakfast there. The staff is always so friendly and accommodating to our group. They provide great service I had the bacon and cheese omelette with rye toast and hashbrowns. Yummy and a lot of food! Friends had French toast and eggs and biscuits and gravy. Everybody really enjoyed their food. It's a great breakfast spot. You will enjoy it. read more

Hot beef is my favorite meal. This one was awful. The strawberry milkshake was good waitress was friendly . never go back.

I came with 5 other elderly ladies. We were not informed of a senior discount and flies were a real pest. I ordered a bacon and cheese omelet. There was no bacon. They used "salad bacon bits" and my bill was $18. Our waitress spent more time swatting flies than seeing if our orders were OK. This restaurant has changed hands many times and shame on me for thinking "this time it'll be better". Never ever again. Atmosphere is cold. Save your money and go to Perkins, or hell McDonalds would even be better. read more

First of all our service was great! Coffee cup never empty. Then the food, I ordered a fajita omelette that came with hash browns and i was able to pick either pancake, biscuit and gravy or toast (white, wheat, rye or sour dough). Great food, big potions, wonderful staff! Do I need to write more?!? We found this cute little place while passing and decided to feed our growling tummies. The place was busy but not packed, and we were able to get a booth right away. We had our 1 year old twins with. The staff accommodated us very well we 2 high chairs, some juice and a delicious pancake for the babies. Our food was cooked to perfection and we enjoyed it very much. I rarely give 5 stars but this place deserves it! Diner extraordinaire! The one waitress and one cook were killing it! My club was awesome, huge, and very low priced. Fries were hot a d delicious. This place was slammed the day I was there at lunch. Our waitress was killing it on every front and she was a master at keeping calm. I have recommended this place to multiple people, not just because it's amazing, but because the staff put out awesome food, ask fair prices and go above and beyond for their customers. Came upon this place by accident. Was greeted right away and given a booth. The place was packed. The service was great. Jackson was the GOAT! He never stopped moving the whole time we were there. The wait for a table was long on a Sunday morning, but definitely worth it. This a classic, old school diner from the decor to the menu. It very much has a welcoming, neighborly atmosphere. Be warned... the portions are HUGE and you definitely get more for your money than most places. The service was a little slow and we had to wait longer than we should have for coffee refills, but it was a busy Sunday morning so I don't hold that too much against them. I chose the Ham Skillet... a very healthy portion of ham, grilled onions, peppers, and mushrooms served over a bed of hash browns and cheese. You also get two eggs (over easy for me) and a side... biscuits and gravy which were excellent. It was so much food I literally only got through half of everything and was stuffed. Thank goodness for carry-out boxes. My lady friend chose a simpler two-eggs with hash browns selection. This also came with a side and she had the biscuits and gravy as well. Still a large size platter, she only got through about half of hers and took the rest home. Being from out of town, we chose Pleasant Hill because of the reviews and we are so happy we did. Aficionados of the old style diner, it checked off all of the boxes for atmosphere and food. I highly recommend and would return if I'm back in the area. read more

that place treats you like total garbage I used to be a cook there and they treated me horribly and paid me under the table which is illegal and they use the same gloves to touch rock chicken as they do touch food that's already cooked. There was a fly that kept flying around me. LOTS of screaming children. Food was good. Service was kinda slow. The wait time was approximately 15 more minutes than quoted. Syrup bottle was half empty so kinda not sanitary. Chocolate milk was def not homemade. Coffee was very bitter. Considering I work at Starbucks. Lots of food for the whole fam. Even had to go up to the front to retrieve my own silverware. According to my dad a guy absolutely VIOLATED the men's bathroom. Now heading to Starbucks for better coffee. A great new find for us, tucked just off the highway, a 50s rock n roll diner - you just b-bopped right in. Was great eats, quick and accommodating service! We came for breakfast and don't eat pork (I know, this is Iowa ), so they substituted a chicken strip for my kid's breakfast and made her feel so special! l had a giant veggie omelet with all the sides. And best of all they timed the food just right, since they turned on the fryer for the chicken strip! Last but not least, they kept the prices very reasonable, appreciate that so much! read more

Waited 10 minutes for drinks and 45 minutes for breakfast to for 2 people. Our waitress disappeared for 15 minutes but she was nice when she was actually waiting on us. Eating here is an experience! We went for the first time just as the restaurants were beginning to reopen after the Coronavirus. My sons ordered biscuits & gravy, burgers, eggs & corned beef hash, salad, & fettuccini. All so good & fresh, we can't wait to go back. Looking around the restaurant is eye candy. Last week was the first visit since Covid. I was entirely unimpressed with their disregard for masks. The had a mask ALMOST on their face, but neither the waitress or the cook had th mask covering mouth AND nose. The cook actually wore it under his chin the entire time we were there. The waitress seemed kinda put out that we wanted to sit in the higher booth, to make it easier to get up. The food was very good, but the experience was less than great. read more

Food is fantastic. I tried to call in an order, first attempt no answer, next 6-8 tries got busy signal. Next try answered then immediately hung up. Final try went unanswered. When I got to the location, 1 employee wearing a mask, all others not. Told by the person who took my to go order, they unhook the phones on weekends. Not wanting to stand inside with all the maskless people, waited outside for the 20 minutes they said it would take. I have been here 3 times now since this opened in the former 5 & Diner location. When 5 & Diner was here, we came here all the time and were saddened when they closed. Now that PH Diner is here, it reminds me very much of the food and experience that 5 & Diner had. I think you get a lot of great food for the money here and the service has always been great. I will continue to come here on a regular basis as well. The only reason I did not give this place the full 5 stars is because the building is now 15+ years old and all original. It is beginning to look a bit worn and tired. It definitely is not run down by any means, and the place is very clean. It just needs some minor remodeling to make it sparkle again. read more

Well ...always wondered why this fine establishment that my son and I would pop into sometimes was always so dead . They had great food/ portions and the shakes are amazing !! Called it " Our little hidden secret ". Well he found out this last wknd. Took his girl there for the " All you can eat fish special on fridays " for dinner. Apparently , you 're only welcome there if you are white ? The 1st thing they did was ask if he wanted extra ,extra chocolate in his shake , ( we were never been asked that before )....he said no, they did it anyway. Their jalepeno poppers appetizer came half frozen. He told them and that they didn't want new ones. Meanwhile... they have already called Pleasant Hill PD because they parked in handicapped without a sticker ( which they had in front windshield ) . Then the fish came with hair on the plate. They offered him 10% off the tab & assumed they were trying to get a free meal even tho he said he had no prob paying. They told him the mgr said they were never allowed in the establishment again ! Why ? Cause " They do that shit everytime they came in ". Funny....his girlfriend had never been there before, and we only went there around 3 o'clock. We NEVER had a problem. And there was never a mgr around. We always complimented the food , server & cook and tipped well. FINALLY....THEY WERE MET OUTSIDE BY THE POLICE DEPT. !!!! Long story short ? RACISM is still alive & kicking in Pleasant Hill. Oh and what really sucks ? He said the fish was fire ! Dammit. I wanted to go one of these Friday's. Shame on you Pleasant Hill Diner. read more

Visited this am for breakfast. 2 tables that were eating and another 2 that were finished and ready to leave. We were seated and the gal who sat us, Only waitress that I saw, took our drink order. Nope, never got our drinks, but 2 groups came in after us. She took orders from both of them and completely ignored us. Piss poor service. We had to leave and go to HyVee. Wow, I'm still disappointed and upset. If your looking for good service here, don't go on the day the older dark hair lady works. She doesn't have a clue. To bad, my husband likes their breakfast.
