A Warning to Parents: Our Traumatizing Experience at PVCS As an associate marriage and family therapist, I never thought I would encounter such a neglectful and dismissive environment in a school setting -- especially one that claims to operate under Christian values. For several months, my daughter was subjected to repeated physical and emotional harm by another student in her class. She came home with glue in her hair, sand in her mouth, and bruises on her body. Despite numerous attempts to alert her teachers and administrators, including Mrs. Wilson -- the school's principal -- no meaningful action was taken to protect my child or address the behavior. When I attempted to speak calmly with the parent of the other child, I was dismissed and deflected. I approached the teachers, including a daycare staff member whose training and experience appeared insufficient for the role, and received minimal acknowledgment. At no point did I demand the child be expelled -- I asked only for accountability and protection. Instead, my concerns were reframed and misrepresented by the administration. I ultimately made the decision to withdraw my daughter, and she is now thriving in public school. She no longer returns home in tears or covered in bruises. She is safe, learning, and happy. In my professional opinion, the school failed in its duty of care. It seemed more concerned with image management than the well-being of its students. There was also a troubling pattern of older children -- including a second-grade boy who repeatedly displayed aggressive behavior -- being allowed unsupervised or inadequately supervised access to younger students, including kindergarteners. These decisions put many children at risk. Several other parents I know made the difficult decision to remove their children as well. We were all met with the same pattern: avoidance, minimization, and spiritual language used to deflect responsibility. It pains me to write this about a religious institution. But in my experience, it is precisely behind religious language and rhetoric that some of the most egregious forms of gaslighting and inaction are allowed to persist. If you are a parent considering this school, I urge you to ask direct questions about their conflict resolution processes, staff qualifications, and discipline procedures. Make sure your child's safety is prioritized -- not just spoken about, but truly upheld. read more

Terrible food. The school has you pay for food and constantly has to make budget cuts. The teachers are very sexist and like the girls more than the boys. Even though I am Christian I see them force the students to and if they are not christian than the teachers will make you feel guilty. Just not a good school. I prevously went there and the staff there would spread rumors about me being a bad kid even though I was pretty nice. What did I do to deserve this life at the terrible school. My son went here for Pre-K. I'm so glad I didn't follow others Yelp reviews. We had a really wonderful experience. He had the best teacher (Mrs. Burns). They had several musical performances - songs my son still sings every day. The playground is large and fun (see photo). The director, Teresa is so warm and welcoming - as well as responsive. I have very conflicting feelings towards this school. I attended this school (which was actually named Pleasant Valley Baptist School) from preschool through 3rd grade (i.e. 1994-1998 or so) and have honestly been somewhat troubled by it ever since. I will start with the good...I believe the academic education I received here was superb. I was ahead in math as well as reading. Although I do not come from a religious family, I do think having read the bible at such a young age really advanced my reading level and prepared me for future literary works. I also do believe the teaching staff here was incredibly dedicated to their jobs and genuinely cared about their students. I remember making making great friends here as well. As for the negatives...as a general rule, I felt ostracized and I'm sure that partially stemmed from the fact that I did not come from a religious family/background. I feel that this school also inappropriately enforced discipline and rules using tactics that invoked feelings of guilt and shame. I distinctly remember on two separate occasions the current principal calling into question my upbringing and family's morality. On one of these occasions, virulent comments were made about my mother's halloween costume after school. In summary, a great school academically but fairly inadequate with dealing with students it deems as "different." read more

We just moved my daughter over to PVCS for her fifth grade year. There were several things that she struggled with at her other school, and was begging me to home school her. We made the switch and she has had such a positive experience. She loves her school and counts it at the top of her blessings. I'm so impressed with this school and the very obvious heart they have for Christ....it has made all the difference! read more

We are incredibly happy with PVCS! We are just rounding out our first year of Kindergarten, and Ms Kirchner rocks! My daughter has blossomed here, and I can't wait for my younger girls to go! It's tough to make ends meet and to justify a private education (when, I have no doubt that the public schools in Camarillo are very good), but there's a lot more to be said when you know that your child is growing in every aspect of her life (body, mind and soul!) I love PVCS, and am looking forward to being here K-8! I couldn't recommend this school more! read more

I attended this school from kindergarten to the 8th grade and I truly enjoyed my time here. The smaller classroom sizes allowed teachers to have more one on one time with me, and offered me friends that I still have in my life 5 years after I left the school. Furthermore, the teachers take time to ensure that you understand the subject matter, even if it means staying in during their lunch break to help. I also participated in volleyball and basketball during my middle school years at the school, which were fun ways for me to compete with other kids and stay active. Both of my daughters were part of this school for over a decade from pre school to 8th Grade. Overall, the value of a Christian based education I feel is an important foundation, that is much more important than reading, writing, and arithmetic, that you can get at any other school. The spiritual fundamentals and Christian values, that they promote and support overall, are very positive and supportive. I personally do not agree with all of the positions of the church and school, as I find them in direct contrast to my personal beliefs. I think that certain differences can be celebrated and understood, as opposed to judged and critiquesMuch of the faculty and administration has been there since the beginning, and there is a very strong core team, that really holds the school together, and keeps it the amazing institution that it is. Because the classes are so small, it can be challenging for children to make and keep friends, because of some of the dynamics, let alone the technological challenges of social media, impacting children younger and younger these. PVCS hold a very special place in me and my family's heart and is full of positive memories, for the most part. There are many opportunities to get involved and participate in your children's education and curriculum. read more

Both of my children began their education in the preschool at Pleasant Valley Christian School. My oldest promoted out of 8th grade last year. My youngest still has 3 more years to go. I can not imagine sending my children anywhere else. The staff and teachers are incredible and are there for the right reasons...God and the students. read more
