My mom brought my violin to this place to have it repaired for me as a graduation present…read more My violin has never played like this! I am so impressed with the quality of the repair. Not only does my violin sound better than it ever has, it's easier to play too. They also did some cosmetic work, and it really does look much nicer. When we went to pick the violin up, we returned our rental and we were greeted with an opportunity to go to a practice room and test it out. Everyone was extremely kind and helpful, and I could really tell that they cared about my satisfaction with the repair. They also gave me great care advice when I asked. I'm so thrilled to have my violin sound so nice and for it to be so well taken care of. For any string instrument repair, I would extremely highly recommend. I am sure their lessons are top notch too, though I haven't experienced for myself.

By word of mouth, after trying several local repairmen, I got wind of "Shon" at Sound Town. He combed over the amp tooth and nail, and finally solved the problem for me, a problem that turned out to be not so much a broken component (my guess) as operator error, a change-over from an active to passive guitar, and the need for a suitable pre-amp to boost the signal . It took a lot of testing and reading of manuals and schematics, before Sean figured out what was going on. He went so far as to compare my sound-levels with those of other amps in the stores and he was quite patient and thorough in every regard. I made several trips to the store, and became acquainted with three key people there, all of whom were very nice, and I got a feeling for their special niche in the music world, which is the supplying of sound systems and various components, whether for rentals-out or for purchase. They keep a fair supply of guitar needs and are happy to order anything you might want at a fair price. Though Guitar Center and places like Kolacny's and Flesher-Hinton all have their place, I'll always begin by shopping here because of their patience and kindness. It is a special kind of store with special kind of people, and it always feels good to be patronizing a locally owned business of modest proportions. Bravo!

We rented my 4th grader's clarinet from Golden Music this school year for about $42 per month. When…read morewe were given a working hand-me-down clarinet from a friend, we returned the rental and asked Golden Music about having the other clarinet checked over. I was surprised to learn that Golden Music wanted $25 just to look at the instrument and tell me what repairs it might need. Even before a full evaluation, I was told it likely needed between $600 and $800 worth of work, but I would have to pay the $25 fee to find out exactly what was needed. I also asked what it would cost to purchase the rental clarinet we had been using and was quoted $587. At $42 per month, we had already paid approximately $378 in rental fees, so purchasing the instrument would have brought our total cost to nearly $1,000 for a student clarinet, even with the "buy it now" discount. I was also told that if we stopped renting over the summer, we would lose any credit toward purchasing the instrument, which felt unnecessarily pressure-filled. Something about the experience didn't sit right with me, so I decided to get a second opinion. I called around and took the clarinet to Flesher-Hinton Music in Wheat Ridge. They looked at it for free and told me that not all of the corks and pads needed to be replaced. Instead, they recommended a cleaning and replacing one cork joint, with a total estimate of $95. The difference between the two assessments was significant. Based on my experience, I strongly encourage parents to get a second opinion before agreeing to major repair work. Flesher-Hinton was knowledgeable, helpful, and transparent about what the instrument actually needed. I won't be returning to Golden Music and would not recommend them based on my experience.

When I call a mom & pop store I don't expect that I am going to be put through hell trying to do something as simple as schedule a music lesson. When, after several days, I was finally able to speak with an employee they were absolutely not helpful. Run don't walk to any other music store in the area.
