Beware!!! PLOMBERIE CHAUFFAGE NORMAND advertises itself as being a big professional company but is run by Francois (owner) and Michelle (his wife) both of whom are outright rude, condescending and unprofessional. They are masters of preying on people's misfortunes (no heat or hot water) and ripping them off as much as they can possibly get away with. They will change parts, and when are called back to stand behind the work they just performed, will invent another problem, or even better, cause another problem only so they can come back another time and change something else that wasn't broken to begin with. Here are some concrete fact-based examples:
1. Hot water tank needed replacing in a residential building as it was leaking. Called PLOMBERIE CHAUFFAGE NORMAND and a technician came and replaced the hot water tak. So far so good. After the repair was completed, within a few hours the tenants started calling that there still was no hot water. PLOMBERIE CHAUFFAGE NORMAND were called back to see why a brand new hot water tank didn't do what it was supposed to do: provide hot water. The technician reported the hot water valve had been turned off but declined any responsibility for that. Ridiculous!!! They were the ones who had turned off the water in order to change the water tank. Unfortunately that logic was too simple for the Francois, owner of PLOMBERIE CHAUFFAGE NORMAND and billed the building owner, first to change the water tank, and second for a Service Call (approx $150) to turn on the hot water valve after they had just changed the water tank. I'll the public opinon judge this one for themselves. I'll call it INCOMPETENCE ans IGNORANCE!!! Just remember when you go to a garage to change your winter tires, you shouldn't have to check that the mechanic installed and bolted the wheels back on the car properly. It is expected they did, and if your wheels come off they are responsible for causing damage to your car, let alone if you get hurt.
2. Gas heating furnace stopped working at a private residence. PLOMBERIE CHAUFFAGE NORMAND were called and the technician determined the gas valve was faulty. The work order filled out by the PLOMBERIE CHAUFFAGE NORMAND technician called for the original gas valve identified specifically by manufacturer's part number to be replaced. When the replacment part arrived, a week later (one week without heat), a different part number gas valve was installed by the PLOMBERIE CHAUFFAGE NORMAND technician. Within days another call was placed to PLOMBERIE CHAUFFAGE NORMAND to report the furnace was not working properly; sometimes it would light up and most other times it would flame/blow itself out when attempting to start as commanded by the thermostat. The technician arrived and diagnosed the problem (incorrectly) as a malfunctioning vent damper, which previously was set permanently to open, as well as to bypass the command to fire the igniter. Another SERVICE CALL bill was issued as a result. To replace the "defective vent damper" a quote of $800+ was verbally given, even though it had nothing to do with the furnace not lighting up. Obviously the owner did not go for that, especially when the part itself costs only $150 and it takes less than 20min to install. A call to the furnace manufacturer revealed that PLOMBERIE CHAUFFAGE NORMAND were not factory authorized to work on that furnace, something they did not advise the home owner. Finally, the factory authorized service company was called (Gaz Metro Plus) and they determined the gas valve installed by PLOMBERIE CHAUFFAGE NORMAND for about $700 was in fact the wrong part (slow opening) and that a step opening gas valve needed to be installed (same as the original). The correct valve was installed by the second company (within a couple of hours not after one week) and it cost the owner another $700. When the home owner contacted PLOMBERIE CHAUFFAGE NORMAND asking to be reimbursed for having installed the wrong gas valve, the owner, Francois, had the audacity to demand that they should have been called to correct their own mistake. This is some nerve... they ignore the fact they were called a few days after installing the wrong part and were told the furnace was working intemittently and mostly not working. Once again, PLOMBERIE CHAUFFAGE NORMAND refused to assume any responsibility for their INCOMPETENCE.
So were do we go from here? Definitely to court, definitely to the Better Business Bureau, to La Corporation des Maitres Mecaniciens en Tuyauterie du Quebec, Gaz Metro and maybe other internet sites where I can share these factual stories about the dishonest business practices of PLOMBERIE CHAUFFAGE NORMAND and its owner Francois, as well as the incompetence of its employees.
