The selection of little shops, some were open and some were closed, are so cute. The shops that were open, looked inviting and friendly. The prices on items were somewhat reasonable. During the day, depending upon which day, this place can seem dead or bleak. I don't know how some businesses survive here. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. As much as I want to love the Kaleidoscope, I really liked Union Market, and I would return to this spot, just for the adorable small businesses located inside. The Kaleidoscope, itself, is really run down and disappointing. Please read my separate review on my opinion of Kaleidoscope. If you ever consider going here, most definitely head to Union Market. Enjoy!!!

This space is huge and really cool with a lot of artwork on the walls. There's great potential, but I think malls are a dying breed since covid. This spot has a couple really cool retail stores, including candle making and events with crafts. They also have a good sized bar, hangout areas, foosball, corn hole and more! They even have live music! It was just so sad to see how empty it was and how many businesses have shut down. I'm thinking this space is probably used more for private events.

For drinks I recommend the Electric Daisy. The crushed Sichuan Peppercorns on the rim leaves an enjoyable, LIGHT, numbing sensation that makes this guava based cocktail feel even more refreshing! Easy to have multiple in one setting, so be careful For eats, be sure to try the Swordfish Katsu - perfectly breaded and adorned with pan-seared peaches, kale and aoli. Union is intentional from interior design to its menu, with a staff that is eager and ready to make sure you have the best experience. Shoutout to Sarah on staff, she felt like visiting a friend in their new city as she truly showed us around as if we've known her for years. In my heart, I initially wanted to gate-keep this spot but I truly want everyone to experience this gem, hidden in the Zaferia neighborhood of good ole Long Beach! If Manuela (in Hauser + Wirth DTLA) had a baby, Union would be its down-to earth first born. Excited to try some of the art classes and wellness offerings also located in the Compound and check out new exhibits over the coming months.

Food 4/5 Pork Meatballs $21 - Best meatballs I've ever had. Full of flavor but a little too salty. Local Wild Mushrooms $24 - Standard, nothing too special. Beets $18 - Refreshing, to the point. Caramelle $27 - My favorite of all the pastas but expensive for very little pieces of pasta and a meatless dish. Full of flavor, lots of oil. Rigatoni Timballo $32 - Delicious, standard. Duck Confit Rotolo $31 - My personal dish which turned out to be my least favorite. Meatballs and Caramelle were my top favorite, secondary are the beets. Prices are not unexpected for the area but are pretty high for what is really given to you. Service 3/5 We sat outside and they were pretty slow to bring water and take our orders. Ambiance 3/5 It was a really lovely time to eat outside but the lights were broken and it was SO dark, there were no added lights to the table. It was impossible to read the menu.

I was downtown for a conference and decided to stop in here for dinner my first night. The bartender was nice. I asked a couple questions about the menu and was leaning toward the steak frites, then saw the burger. Wow. The description sounded incredible. After a little back and forth with the bartender, though, I went with the crispy skin salmon. My goal was protein, and honestly, all three choices checked that box. The place wasn't very busy, but the food took L-O-N-G. And unfortunately, it just wasn't good. At all. I think the bartender could tell I was sitting there wishing I'd ordered literally anything else, because once I was done, the check appeared in front of me pronto. The Union in Encinitas is good, so I wouldn't write this place off. If I come back, I'm making two changes: 1. Sit outside and enjoy the nice evening. 2. Order what I actually wanted in the first place instead of asking anyone what I should get. My fault on both. I'd come back -- I'd just do it differently next time.

It feels like a local spot with endless options to enjoy. Their baristas (Lucy is the best) can make everything but also don't shy away from suggesting something new. I've recently fallen in love with an iced flat white with vanilla for a little summer sweet treat. Their drip coffee is divine too! Talk about range... we frequent for brunch/lunch/date night too. Their wine list is truly endless. You can sit inside at the bar, at a gorgeous table with air conditioning, under their adorable pink-striped umbrellas on the patio, or in an extended patio off the sidewalk with plenty of seating. You will be treated with exceptional service regardless of seating. Their brunch menu is delicious. Their chive biscuit breakfast sandwich is incredible, as is their breakfast burrito, chilaquiles AND biscuits and gravy. To be fair, we visit most regularly for a cheese board and meat with a glass of wine. Recently enjoyed the ceviche and smash burger with side-winder fries which was hand crafted and filling. Even our young boys enjoyed every bite. On Sunday's (1st and 3rd of the month) they have live music which is wonderful. Last thing, the cellar cookie is incredible. It's hard to just drop in for a coffee and not leave with one when available. You will never regret a visit to The Cellar! One of the best places in San Clemente.

Finally made it to The Cellar in San Clemente for a date night, and we were excited to try it!…read more We wanted to sit on the patio and noticed there was an empty table, but there weren't any chairs. One of the employees was so kind and went to look for two chairs for us so we could sit there. We really appreciated that extra effort and kindness! My husband ordered a glass of Austin Hope Cabernet and really enjoyed it. I ordered the burger with fries, and both were really good. The fries were especially fun because they were a different shape than your typical fries. My husband also ordered the ravioli, which unfortunately ended up being a disappointment. The menu said it was filled with whipped ricotta, but when it came out, it was actually filled with goat cheese, which he really doesn't like. He let our server know, and they were kind enough not to charge us for it. He ordered the Caesar salad with chicken instead, and really enjoyed it, he said he'd definitely go back for the salad! He was still bummed about the ravioli, though, since he loves ricotta-filled ravioli. And we finished the night with the skillet cookie and ice cream, which was absolutely delicious! Overall, we had a good date night and appreciated how kind and accommodating the staff was. We'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.
