Located within the Kaleidoscope Center, this place has so much potential. I came here with friends on a Saturday evening, and this area had a lively atmosphere happening. The selection of little shops, some were open and some were closed, are so cute. The shops that were open, looked inviting and friendly. The prices on items were somewhat reasonable. During the day, depending upon which day, this place can seem dead or bleak. I don't know how some businesses survive here. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. As much as I want to love the Kaleidoscope, I really liked Union Market, and I would return to this spot, just for the adorable small businesses located inside. I was really surprised to come to Union Market around 6pm and see how empty it was. It was disappointing to see there were only 2 restaurants open, and one of them you had to ring a bell for the people to even greet you. This space is huge and really cool with a lot of artwork on the walls. There's great potential, but I think malls are a dying breed since covid. This spot has a couple really cool retail stores, including candle making and events with crafts. They also have a good sized bar, hangout areas, foosball, corn hole and more! They even have live music! It was just so sad to see how empty it was and how many businesses have shut down. I'm thinking this space is probably used more for private events. read more

Stopped by after the movies today to the Italian restaurant. Was told that the noodles are fresh and homemade. We placed our order and waited for it to be made. It didn't take very long, longer than we were expecting though. I had ordered lasagna and a bread "basket" to go. When the food was brought out, the portions are soooo much smaller than what we were expecting, especially compared to the prices that we paid. We will not be coming back. I've been around this place since it was built. Really don't go in that much except to drop my wife off to work. Every time I do venture out to grab something to eat, this place is closed. I really love this little market in the weird place called the Kaleidoscope mall. The Union Market Mission Viejo hosts some of the best options for drink and food in the entire mall, unless you count Buffalo Wild Wings. I mean, who doesn't like hot wings and explosive diarrhea?! Back to the market, like I said it's loaded with choice spots to hang; Portola Coffee Roasters, Hummus Bowl, Locca Churros + Tea, and some amazing cocktail and whiskey options at Dry Society. There's both seating inside and outside, along with ping pong tables and corn hole open for anyone to play. I've been here occasionally when they have live music and art demos. Headed to the movies? The live music on Saturday night is so loud I can't even have a conversation. We were having a nice dinner at Slice ( 5 stars for Slice), but the live band starts and I can't hear our waitress, she can't hear us...it's miserable. Totally ruined our nice meal. I was stoked when this opened up because the Kaleidoscope really needed some new spots. Unfortunately, this place is just a Chuckie Cheese with a bar. It started off cool with a middle bar called Dry Society. Dry Society had delicious craft cocktails and a cool vibe. Unfortunately it closed down and was taken over by Sol Agave (but it still has the same name). Many other spots have come and gone over the past few years. Half of Union Market is currently empty and a few of the businesses don't even follow the hours they post. I went to get lunch at Yuda's at 11:30 on a Saturday and they were closed. Now let's get to the Chuckie Cheese aspect. When you walk in on a Friday night the place is filled with noisy kids and teens. They have a corner area with table games and it would be nice to grab a drink and play ping pong with the hubby, but all of the tables are taken over by kids. Your only option is to sit at the bar with your $15 drink and listen to kids scream while they play games. What kind of vibe is that? I'm guessing the only people at the bar are the parents who are grabbing a drink while their kids are running wild all over the market. The outlook for this Union Market is dim. I wouldn't be surprised if it completely shuts down within the next year. read more

We hosted my husband's surprise birthday party here. It is such a great place to have a party! Blank canvas to do with it what you want, and plenty of room for folks to enjoy themselves! My aunt stumbled upon this place while looking up "foodie" restaurants and so we wanted to give it a try. It looked similar to the Anaheim packing district layout. By the looks of the pictures and reviews, we wanted to give this place a try. It's located in almost those outdoor mall strip but the outdoor stores only consists of other restaurants and a movie theater. Sadly there wasn't much shopping we could've done which was a little disappointing. A lot of the stores were closed and there were construction going on outside. The union market is located upstairs in the corner across from the theater. We expected it to be bigger and expected more options of food inside but honestly, there were only Yudas and RTE inside the union market that serves food and then there were 2 other shops that sold clothes and scented candles/jewelry. Then there were 1 bar located in the center, a gaming area in the far right corner and just a boba/churro shop. We pretty much went and tried everything from each restaurant and looked at both stores. Surprisingly both stores were having really good sales. They had nice items. Overall, didn't felt like there were anything special about this place. 2/3 of the restaurants we attended were very disappointing. read more

I was completely impressed by this place. They have updated the whole food court concept tenfold. There are games for the kids...corn hole, foosball and ping pong. They are free, just see a vendor to check out some balls or sacks. Great idea. The décor is upscale with renewable plants. The selection of restaurants are nicely diverse and centered around an upscale bar. This place has most definitely given a facelift to the struggling Kaleidoscope center that has seen strife of late. Pretty cool, trendy shared space in between a bunch of restaurants, a bar, a boba tea shop and a store. Restaurants vary from Italian, Shabu Shabu, to Hummus bar. There were ping-pong tables for rent and other hang out areas with board games! It is an interesting concept but they now need to invest in bringing more people to the plaza. I LOVEEE markets like this, with just so much to do, eat, and buy. I usually go to the Union Market at the District in Tustin, but wanted to check out this place. So I came at night ~7pm and it was pretty empty, with some vendors and food stands open, but mostly snacks and drinks/boba, so I didn't get anything to eat. The interior is beautifully filled with lights and greenery, so it was quite pleasant to walk and browse around the boutiques. The big downside for me was that not everyone here was wearing a face mask INDOORS even though we're clearly still deep in a pandemic, so it'd be nice if rules were more enforced?? I like the atmosphere here, but pretty deserted and not that many food options. My friends and I came here for Trivia Night Tuesday. This is the first time I've been here since they renovated the Union Market. They have bars and quick bites to eat. Compared to Anaheim Packing District, its pretty isolated. Not a lot of people and food staffs are not very friendly. There's around 5-6 food options, one dessert, a coffee place, and a bar. Most of the people there were middle aged or children. They have a ping pong tables, soccer table, and corn hole set. The restaurant that usually provides balls and paddles were closed, which was dissapointing. Since its pretty quiet, this place would be a good place to study and get productive work done. Probably won't come back for food, but Trivia Night was fun! Will come back for Trivia Night since the question variety was awesome. read more

I have been here many times for happy hour but today was not as great. Maybe it's more popular now but I felt like I was going deaf here. I work in a kindergarten class and so my tolerance for noise is very good. But the noise of kids screaming was deafening and I had a headache just waiting for our order - literally we were in and out in 30 minutes and the noise just was unbearable. On top of that, I was sitting on a stool and it had a sharp loose side and it totally tore my new jeans. Good thing I wasn't wearing leggings or it would have totally left me with a nasty cut! First off, where is the 6-star option?!?! We got to Kaleidoscope and were a little hesitant at first. Where were all the people?? Sunday 3pm seems like a perfect time to go but the overall atmosphere in the plaza was quiet. But then we realized everyone was in UNION MARKET!! and there's a perfect reason why - great wine, great music, great games and especially - great company. I only spent a little time here and, to be fair, it was one hour before closing on a Sunday night so I can understand why most places were closed. But still, there could be a few more options for real meals. I do appreciate how spread out everything is. And the free ping pong tables are a nice touch. We went for dinner at the Hummus Bowl but I did walk around to see what else this Union Market had to offer. The milk tea shop looked good and there was a salad restaurant but that's about all that was open. There were two bars open as well. There was a cute clothing shop that was closed but did look promising. Hoping to come back and check it out during the day when it is open. I think there was also a coffee shop but it was hard to tell because it was a little dark in the areas where the shops were closed. But I would like to visit this market again soon! read more

Well, this place has potential. Kind of like the Union Market at The District - this one is just "here." They are trying with the space, but it needs something to give it some "oomph." What I do like are the ping-pong tables and the kind of "recreation area." If I had a work from home type job, I could see myself parking myself here, sipping tea all day, and using the communal lunch/workspaces. The assortment of things in here is interesting - a retailer that sells an assortment of stuff including some clothing, a coffee place, a poke place, sushi, pasta, and perhaps a few other things that I glazed over. Oh - right - a bar! As all the tenants move in, this could be really cool. Maybe it's what the Kaleidoscope center needs? Upscale, indoor market that my girlfriend and I came across that has turned into our "go to" spot. All the locals go and definitely has family feel as well as a foodie scene to it. Awesome music entertainment at night as well as an area where you can play cornhole and fuseball! I was just here hanging out with some friends playing poker and 2 security guards came up to us saying we need be quite and throw our food away because we were making people not go into a store. Even though the only store close to us was an ugly shirt store called Miel. I'm pretty sure the owner was saying we causing a disruption. Then after talking to the owner the security guards came over to us again saying we need to shut up and they were cursing at us. I mean I was just hanging out with my church youth group and I felt pretty attacked. Definitely not a fan of security/ Miel. Came here on a recent trip back home to escape the oppressive heat and my best friend's broken A/C unit at her house. We came to go to the bar and look around and grab some dinner, maybe. It's pretty interesting that the parking lot was full but the mall did not look busy at all. Union Market is a trendy, hipster-type shared space in that has some restaurants, a bar, a coffee/tea shop and a homegoods-type store. A few different restaurants and the bar was cool, we had a drink there. There are places to sit and chill and I believe I saw some ping pong tables. I've been to other "markets" in San Francisco and NYC and they work really well for smaller businesses who can't afford the lease on a whole space. It doesn't seem to have caught on here just yet. Loved that it was nice and cool and there were plenty of seating. We had lunch at Oyu Shabu and it was really good. I liked the nice open feel and the succulent plants everywhere. Union Market, more like.. hipster market ;] It's a hipster indoor food court including a boba shop, hummus bowls, poke bowls, shabu shabu, seafood oyster bar, italian, and mexican. Ive only tried the boba place (which is amazing, btw), but everything looks tasty and I can't wait to go back to try them. There are large wood tables and succulents every where. Cool vibe to read, study, or catch up with friends. I love the concept and the large open space. There are also areas to play ping pong, corn hole, and foosball. This place has potential. I've been here a few times to check it out, and ate at one of the places here before. They have DJ and live band on weekend nights. It's nice to also play some ping pong or sack toss games with friends. The bar gets the most attention here, along with the Shabu Shabu place. There are a few places to eat, but more are opening up. The stores are limited (a candy store, a soap and incense store, a activewear store). I think once they open up the mexican place (Mole) this place will get more crowded. They should have more happy hours around here to attract customers. Although this is similar in idea to the Union Market in the District, this one has not taken off like that one has yet. Parking is easy in the Kaleidoscope parking lot downstairs. read more

My husband and I took our boys and one of their friends (8 & 9 years old) for laser tag. While they were playing, we went to the bar at Union Market to have a drink and some food while we waited. The boys came in when they were done. We got food for them as well. When they were done, they started playing ping pong. At 8:00, they changed the music to a station that was playing a Snoop Dogg song, that I like...but not in front of my kids, or anyone else's for that matter. I asked if there was anything else they could put on, seeing as how there were quite a few other young kids in there. Leon, the bartender, replied, "This is an adult bar and I will not change the music.". The level of rudeness and disrespect is something that I would have never tolerated from one of my employees. Bar atmospheres do not start at 8:00. I worked in the service industry for 20 years. The earliest it ever started was 9:00. I could have been a little more understanding if I wouldn't have been dismissed in such an unbelievably disrespectful manner. We spent good money in there and the food was all subpar...definitely not as good as it has been in the past. It was just so disappointing since we have had so much fun there on previous occasions. This is THE 1st time I have not left a tip. Even with bad service I leave 15%. In shock right now!! Seeing as how it doesn't look like business is all that good in there, you would think they would remember, "The customer is always right!" would be a policy they would follow. Very disappointed!! If I could give no stars, I would!!! ***UPDATE*** The management rectified the situation promptly.
