All of the staff I worked with were very helpful and very personable, including Jonathan, Laura, and Julie, each of which I worked with throughout the process and each of whom was very good to answer any questions I had. Never at any point did I feel like I was an afterthought, they were very good at giving personalized attention. Even a year after buying my home, they've been great to answer mortgage and tax related questions that I've had on a couple of occasions. Jonathan was great at helping me work through figures and to get me a mortgage that's worked great for me. He figured things off of worst case scenarios, so it was nice when I was prepared for higher closing costs, but ended up with about $1000-$1500 extra in pocket than I planned on. That ended up being very helpful, as I needed to replace my garage roof within the first couple of months to satisfy my insurance. Basically, the only surprises were positive ones! He also helped me to lock in a low interest rate. I've since recommended Hallmark to a friend, who has also had a great experience with them and recently closed on her house. I'm not typically somebody to go out of my way to recommend somebody, but Jonathan has definitely earned my recommendation!

Jan patiently guided us through every single one. She explained things before we even knew we needed them explained. She answered every question, no matter how small. She kept us informed, reassured, and sane during a process that seems specifically designed to test the limits of human anxiety. At one point, I trusted Jan more than I trusted myself. Need another document? Jan already knew. Have a question? Jan already answered it. Feeling stressed? Jan somehow sensed it through the internet and was already sending reassurance. What makes Jan so special isn't just her knowledge. It's how much she genuinely cares. We never felt like a transaction or another file on her desk. We felt supported, encouraged, and genuinely cared for every step of the way. By closing day, it felt less like we were saying goodbye to our loan officer and more like we were saying goodbye to the world's most patient friend. I want to start by saying that I have been with United for 7 years and overall they have been reliable and fantastic to work with. I have not had a problem of note with my accounts. I have an Ultra Checking, eCash, URewards card, and had an auto loan also. I don't know why so many complain about the loan, maybe these people just didn't pay time; I had a clean experience. The main attraction is the unbeatable interest rate on your checking balance. Why -1 stars? This used to be for 10 swipes of your card per month; this was a mild nuisance to double check progress at the end of the month but easily worth the ~$30/month. Then it became 20 swipes and the operation became completely impossible. Some months I don't even swipe all of my credit cards combined 20 times. Insane!! So I stopped getting the interest and there is nothing I can do. This barrier is really unjustifiable when I can stick this cash on an easy access online money market account like vanguard. Why not fewer stars? Maybe they will see this and change. I hope so, because at its heart, this is a great local credit union.
