    PNE Amphitheatre bleacher seating
    Michael D.

I attended this venue for the first-time last week and I was SO impressed. We spent considerable time debating over bleacher or general admission tickets (the floor was sold out), thinking the bleachers were too far away. This was NOT the case at all! This venue has amazing views from pretty much anywhere in the Amphitheatre. It is small and intimate. It is about 1/4 of the size of any bigger arena in town. Bleacher seats are just fine if you don't want to stand and or dance for the performance. We found that closer to the performance start time there was a bit of a clog getting in, so we decided to try entering via the bleacher seating. A short walk up a small hill were the entrances with no line ups. It was easy to walk down to the main floor/ground area. We didn't see a lot of food offered inside, though there is everything you could imagine just outside the gate. As you would expect, cocktails and beer are pricy at $10.00. For anyone looking to see their favourite nostalgia band, or current popular bands, this is an amazing, venue that is great for those who hate the bigger arena crowds. I highly recommend!

Here I go dating myself again! UB40 performed in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1989, & I was there! Of course I was only about 7 years old - cough, gag, choke - excuse me something got stuck in my throat & it wasn't the truth! Ha! It was a mind blowing show back then cause it was hard to believe they actually came to - Africa! Fun fact - UB40 formed after meeting up while members applied for unemployment benefits in the UK - hence the name of the band - named after the unemployment form. I wonder if they're still collecting ... oh never mind! Yikes! You know the syrupy classic - Red Red Wine - that song drives me nuts now & whenever I go out I pray - DJ please don't play it! https://youtu.be/zXt56MB-3vc Gotta love those wacky 80s videos - the RRW video was filmed in pubs flowing with beer & with not one wine glass in sight!!! Besides you won't get hung-over from wine like in the video! Tired or romantic - yes, unless you're drinking cheap nasty wine - then you'll get a splitting headache! LOL! UB40 was a true gem of the 80s & got me through many a tough day back then with my favs - 1 in 10, Don't Break my Heart, If it Happens Again, Here I Am, We Will Sing our Own Song, The Way You do the Things You Do, Fallin in Love with You, Cherry Oh Baby, & many more! What a trip down memory lane & the glorious 80s - this night was!!! Heard this funny comment from someone in the crowd who had no idea about UB40 - 'I didn't realize they were white!' OK!?! Go back to bed you child! Vocals & sound were on point! However, side note to PNE - you can still turn those speakers up a decibel or two - my eardrums could have handled the sound just a little higher please!?! The PNE has really upped the Summer Concert Series with a steller lineup over the past 5 years! Bookmark this in your calenders & remember to check the lineup of shows, when announced in early Spring! The PNE Amphitheatre is a grand outdoor arena that is perfect for summer night concerts - indeed! Wow, UB40 - 40 years later & still counting!!! Congrats! Ps - check out UB40s new album - it's a gem with new cool vibes - yah mon wicked! https://youtu.be/Lsmvk1m7xyM

I was very sad when they ended the demolition derbies at the PNE, but the Concert Series more than makes up for it. Honestly I think this is the single best part of the PNE. Once famous artists performing free concerts, for the price of admission. For the hardcore fans, the "floor" area guarantees a good seat for a nominal cost on top of admission. My only complaint is that the venue isn't bigger. This place absolutely fills up when an A-list artist is on the roster. Fortunately they're now smart enough to put a decent sized screen outside so that people who can't make it inside still get a chance to watch.

We got to choose from breaded or non-breaded and a few different flavours of wings like Salt & Pepper, Smokey BBQ, Sweet Heat, and Spicy Buffalo. It was about a 20-30 minute wait for the wings so we did find it a bit long. The service was average and nothing notable. But when the wings did arrive, they were served with a ranch dipping sauce and it was hot & fresh! We got a few more rounds afterwards (that didn't look or weren't plated as nicely but still tasted good) and enjoyed it a lot. It was $25 for AYCE wings but it also included a $10 credit to play any of their arcade games. That's a pretty good deal in our opinions! We'd likely return for more wings if we feel like eating abnormal amounts again!

Parking is plentiful in the mall lot. The place is pretty full of life. There is a large arcade with plenty of relatively modern games (most are G to PG themed), and a section for table tennis and pool. Place has a relatively loungeish feel, which is great for those in their 20s. Some kiddie games provide tickets, which can be redeemed for points. And just like a Chuck E Cheese, the ticket costs are insane. The place also has a large food section with fast food, as well as spaces for private parties. Not a bad place to check out and kill some time.

But if you've made it this far, let me tell you about the magical and prehistoric collector's items available at John's Jukes. First and foremost are the Jukeboxes, old delightful automated DJ machines that take everything from loonies to nickels. One of the Jukeboxes is fashioned to look like the back of a hot pink convertible, perfect for making your living room look like Pop Tate's Soda Shop in Archie Comics. Most of the other ones can be summed up by referencing the opening montage for Happy Days. There is also a wide variety of pinball machines, with every co-opted franchise from Star Wars to Kiss, and a few video game consoles that have been manhandled by fastidious fingers for over 40 years. But it's a high price to pay for nostalgia, with items ranging from several hundred dollars to several thousand. If you do miss Frogger that much though, it's the right place to go, just make sure that you have a truck nearby so you don't have to maneuver the console through traffic.

Confession: this was my first Bigfoot Festival and, as a closet fan of everything sasquatch, I was sorta excited about it! It turns out the festival was a fundraiser for some improvements to a nearby park, more than an informational or even entertainment-oriented gathering about that mysterious, tall, hairy beast that is said to roam the nearby forests. There were a ton of really cute art booths, many featuring bigfoot-related items, as well as a coloring contest for the kids and a musical stage (although we were there for an hour and never heard a note of live music). There were a few food booths, but the lines were long so we didn't partake. We kept wandering around hoping we'd find a beer garden to help us cool off but, sadly, there wasn't a beer in sight. This might have been the first year for the festival, so maybe they'll make some improvements to make it more fun the next time around. I love a good art fair, but having more squatch-related info/entertainment, some music, and music would have made it worth returning another time.
