The place is pretty small and kinda cramped. At the outset it looks a little dated, dingy, and dark. Some of the bigger arcade games had chairs that were tattered/ripped. One game had one of the joysticks taped up. My three friends and I were looking for 4 player games so we asked the attendant what games were available. They seemed nice when answering my question. The only 2 games we saw made for four players were a couple arcade racing games and a japanese mini game called Bishi Bashi. The game was $4 at $1/person and it was pretty fun. It was a super unique game from Japan that I had never seen before. A lot of the machines accepted loonies only but they have a change machine near the front. Half of the place were tokens games where you win tokens that can be exchanged for a prize. Some of the notable ones I remember seeing were Monopoly, Deal or no deal, a basketball game, and the giant slot machine looking game where you can win a large amount of tickets. Some of the best prizes were super large pokemon plushies. They had a large chansey pokemon plushie worth 10,000 tickets which is pretty nuts. If you like Dance dance revolution or rhythm games like taiko drumming, they have it. I saw two guys really enjoying themselves playing DDR competing against each other. There were fans facing the players which I don't see too often. Kids were enjoying street fighter with their parents supervising so it seemed like a family friendly place. They had some arcade shooters and some unique Japanese games. There were a few prize games like crane games and key master games. Notable prizes were what you'd expect at other arcades with prize games such as dragonball anime figures, Nintendo Switch, GoPro cameras, and other small electronics teens will like. Overall, CHQ is a small arcade place that has all the essential arcade games you'll find at many other arcades. I know there are other larger arcades with more arcade machines around Vancouver but CHQ is alright in terms of selection. E Spot and the newly opened Rec Room at Brentwood comes to mind when it comes to alternatives. The arcade games they had available were pretty modern and seemed fun. I remember coming here quite a bit when I was in my teens (and this was a pretty long time ago). Game selection has changed quite a bit. What was more of an arcade place has now become a more like an entertainment center with prizes. There is a sticker photo machine couple claw prize machines and they have games where you can play to redeem prizes. This place is always busy. I went to this place to get a BanaPassport and I got it from the WMMT game near the entrance next to the terminal. I like it because its got a lot of games like Mario Kart Halo. I got the card mainly because I wanted to get into the WMMT and other games that support it. If anyone knows is there Tekken? And does it use the BanaPassport system? Wow, arcades still exist. If you are an otaku, this is the place for you. The games are mostly older (mid 2000s), but there should be something in there for everyone. One can walk through the premises and check out the blinky lights and sounds. The one game that honestly made me burst out loud is Tekken where you can go beat up a panda. I couldn't stop laughing while watching people play. Seriously. The games are mostly reasonably priced, though I honestly do miss those 25c days. read more

This arcade is located in the metropolis mall. Lots of youngsters are here playing games and it can get a little hard to maneuver around. Lots of machines will only take new loonies and will spit out the old ones. Claw machines are set at really hard to win. Don't bother with them. We spent some time on the claw machine trying to win a rilakkuma. No luck so we looked around and left. read more

I love arcades but this one is in need of a serious face lift. There were so many broken games and a couple that worked, didn't have sound. I get it, it's old and maybe they don't have the money to maintain it properly. However, if they really cared, the customer service could have been a lot better. I LOVE this place! I make it a point to visit here at least once every time I'm in BC, as we no longer have any arcades in Calgary, and even if you can find the odd game machine at the theatre, they rarely stock the latest games. Here at CHQ, you can find some of the latest arcade cabinets, many of them I assume are imported, as not many arcade cabinet distributors are left in North America. Everything from the latest Street Fighter games, Gundam fighting games, Dance Dance and other rhythm games, and a whole lot more. Games are about $1 per play, with the latest and marquee games taking loonies, and the older games or games where you can play for tickets and redeem them for prizes taking tokens. It's a little expensive, although I remember in my University days spending up to $2 per play, and it's not like you have any choice in the matter these days. Anyways, I usually end up leaving this place with extra tokens (either because I buy too much, or I'm so good that I don't require many tries), but I always pack them up for my trip back home to Calgary and bring them again whenever I return to visit to use again. If you grew up as an arcade brat, or just want to experience one of the few arcades left these days, make it a point to visit CHQ in Metrotown. 11/30 read more

Claw machines are so bad...worst claw machines of any place I've ever been to. Other games look fun but for claws go elsewhere

Do yourself a favour and stay away from this place! The manager has very poor people skills and certainly hates children. Loves to make them cry, and fear for their lives. I had 3 grandchildren 7, 9, 11 who were having a great time in this arcade. One dropped some change so they were on the floor looking for their coins. The manager came over yelling and screaming accusing them of steeling then kicked them out. They were in utter tears as they hadn't done anything wrong. Their mom went back to speak to the manager who didn't want to even talk about the situation, and threatened to call security. Told her to "go be miserable somewhere else!" He refused to give the name of the owner and their phone number. That tells ya right there he knows he was not being professional and was totally in the wrong! read more

I brought my friends to the metrotown arcade to play BishiBashi. Half way through the game two of us died. In a rush to get more change to continue playing we accidentally put our money in the token machine instead of the change machine. We went to the kiosk and asked the owner if we could change the tokens back into dollar pieces, like the game required. In his ignorance he told us he would buy them back AT A REDUCED PRICE. My friend said "Well that's just poor customer service." We left it at that and went back to playing. In the middle of the game he came and approached us very angry and started putting words in our mouth. He said we were telling him that we want him to change his policy just for us because we made a mistake. He then proceeded to stop me from playing even though I wasn't directly involved with his argument with my friend. He told us we were being extremely rude and caused me to lose my game. He proceeded to get in my friends personal space. Almost rubbing against him and continuing to insult us. I attempted to make my case that it was just a mistake and it was over. That we would use the tokens on a different game. He refused to back off and bullied us out of the arcade. read more

I guess you could say I'm a sucker when it comes to arcade. I'm the type of a girl who would classify an awesome date as going to an arcade and eating junk food. I come to CHQ pretty often, probably once week to get my arcade game fix. I like it here because games are constantly updated and the variety is good. Everything from racing cars to slot machines the really do have it all. They also have a prize bar where you can exchange those hard earned tickets for prizes, gotta admit though the prizes kind of suck compared to other arcades. .25 per token and most games go for 2+ tokens, so it's pretty easy to rack up a large tab. I think lugging around tokens is pretty heavy, if thy updated to newer coin systems (electronic) it would be awesome! Also it would mean that you could save up tickets redeemed an easier way than having tons of redemption stubs on your wallet... Just a suggestion. read more

Alot of neat imported machines but I was constantly bugged by this kid named David who squeals and talks to himself beside me when I was playing Gundam. He annoyed me so much talking to himself his own lingo that I wanted to walk out and not come back. I'll never forget the time he was threatened by a guy for being cheap and annoying throughout a multi-link match in Gundam. If the manager reads this, please make sure David is never welcomed again. **01/04/13 - Walked past CHQ recently and saw Ernest Tsui (again), who proceeded to say "Miss me, [n-word]?" with his arms spread in a mocking tone and I walked away from him to take the stairs instead of the escalator to the first floor. There just aren't many arcades left these days :( CHQ is one of the few, and beggars can't be choosers. This place is packed very tight with wall-to-wall games, so there isn't much room to move around. It is also hot as balls. It's not too comfortable and not a place to relax and sit back for a few hours. I find it's a good place to have a quick pre-movie game of air hockey, and maybe to spend a bit of time, but it seems there isn't much left these days other than shooting and dancing games. I've tried some of the older school games, but some of the joysticks seemed to be broken. read more

Wish I could give a negative review. Accused my kids 5 and 7 of stealing in the arcade. The kids were looking on the floor for change and the manager came over yelling at them for stealing coins and told them to get out of the arcade and that security will take them away for stealing. My children left in tears thinking they were thieves and they were going to jail. Pretty sure that in its self is illegal to do. They didn't take anything from anyone! I've been going here for two to three years now, I'm a avid fan of most of the arcade games they have on the left side of the arcade, being all rhythm games and other games like DDR, Initial D and Street Fighter. I can say alot of the games are absolutely must-plays UNLESS you're here to play the games where you win tickets or toys and whatever of the likes. This arcade shines for the arcade games where you aren't getting tickets to win that stuffed Pikachu on the top shelf. If you're there to win stuff, just wait for the PNE. This arcade caters to more Asian style arcade games. So you have your rhythm based game, Street Fighter , and Gundam games. Not my interest though though I do like that they're trying to get the more classic arcade games back. - The place is rather small and there's no air conditioning. - some games a little pricy (A dollar for some) I guess it's a way to cover cost from importing games from Asia and maintaining the games. I remember a time during my high school years where I would go to CHQ to play Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune. It was such a wonderful game to play at the arcade. Otherwises, they basically combined the idea of Playdium and PNE Midway games and stuffed it inside a building called CHQ. I am happy that we have an arcade place in Burnaby because the likes of seeing any type of arcade is dying down with the technological advances in gaming. I did enjoy coming here though. The only thing bad about the place is sometimes when you put a paper bill in there, it might not work and the owner will not even help the customer get the coins at all. Then again, it is sometimes ran by a few people, but most of the time, the owner himself will run it by himself. read more

It's a more modern arcade with a wide variety of game genres ranging from shooting games, car race games and old school games. I love this place and the noises and the best part is that sometimes they have DDR competitions that are fun to watch. I have a video game system, however, the idea of going out, getting dressed and sometimes wearing my pac man dress to play at an authentic Asian arcade excites me. It is all reasonably prices, however, like a casino it's easy to loose track of your money (especially if you're a bad gamer like me). The manager (or the middle-aged caucasian man with glasses that always seems to be there) has no business dealing with the public especially when it comes to dealing with kids. My son, who has patronized this place many times before, innocently put a token left over from a different arcade in a machine and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. He honestly (yes, honestly) thought that this token was from this arcade. When we asked for help, the manager saw that he had used a different token and immediately became very angry and rude. In a rude and angry tone, he said "To play games here you have spend your money on OUR tokens!", and he walked away without letting us explain. So, I pursued him to let him know we have indeed spent many a dollar at his arcade and that this was an honest mistake made by a 10 year old boy. He again walked away as I spoke. My son and I then walked out of the arcade and the manager FOLLOWED us! I turned around and he came out of the arcade to tell me that we jammed up the game for everyone else. Ummm...no. There was a lady playing on it already. It was not jammed up, so why are you accusing us of something we didn't do? Wow, you're really good with customers. So, my son begged me not to get into an argument with this person. Do you think he's going to want to go back to this arcade? My son spends $20 each time he goes. The arcade at Granville island will be getting his money now. Congratulations, Mr. manager. You've just scared away a 10 year kid with money to spend. For those of us who hung out at Playdium back in the good old days, walking in here today is a disappointment. I have a feeling this place was probably put in just to fill the arcade gap in this mall to satisfy the Playdiumites (is that a word?) The game selection has definitely changed and has certainly gone downhill in the last few years, though they do have import games from Asia like Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune and Thrill Drive 3 (that Japanese street racing game that actually shakes you up when you crash, which has now been removed). As mentioned, the game selection is less focused on your typical arcade video game fare (shooting, racing, fighting etc games), and more focused on games that spit out tickets which can be exchanged for overpriced, dollar store toys unless you happen to strike it rich with on a ticket jackpot. CHQ has become like Burnaby's Chuck E Cheese's in that respect, complete with shouting kids begging their parents to let them pay more. As someone who's been to bigger arcades like Playdium and Playscape in Ontario, Dave & Busters in the Texas, the quality of prizes at here definitely pales in comparison (no iPads, RC cars etc). It's old, Metro rent is expensive, maintenance is expensive. I've heard from a longtime veteran hanger-outer (again, is that a word?) at Metro that this place has changed ownership multiple times all these years. Bring back Playdium. Very disappointed in the changes in amount of tokens needed to play a game and the prices of tokens now.. The games you play aren't cheap anymore.(most games need 2-3 tokens compared to 1-2 before) and the token amounts dropped too.($20=80tokens compared to 99 before) it's sad because there's no more discounts when you spend more. And also the tickets needed to win prizes went up too. I don't understand why they would make "everything" go up so much... You spend more for less. Anyways their prjzes don't cost them much.(plastic frisbees and bad quality stuffed animals are top prizes there) I would go there almost once a month, but I'm not going back anymore.. read more

The machine is quite old. And for the machine, it only take the new shiny ones, but the changes from there usually comes with old ones. I asked the stuff what can I do if it accepted one but didn't the others and asked if I can get one coin back from the machine, the man from there said he don't know and cannot do anything. First time I been to an arcade in 7 years. I asked the lady what the machines took and she said tokens and pointed to a token change machine in the corner. I changed my money and proceeded to walk around. I suddenly noticed every single decent game took only loonies and not tokens. I went back and encountered the old Caucasian owner and asked him if I could change a few tokens for loonies thinking it wasn't a big deal. He yelled at me, "NO!!! I was there and i was using the counting machine to count your tickets. it kept staying at the same number for a long time so i told the worker and he said its fine and stuff. there was another machine i trusted more than the one. it said 18 plus only and i am not 18 but next time i go there i will use it instead. the number was at 500 for about 250 tickets and i got really mad so i complained and he didnt give me the 250 tickets that i earned. i told him that the machine doesnt count right and he told me too bad its not my fault. i got really mad, maybe next time ill use the purple counting machine instead since i have used it before even though it says 18 and over only. i dont care. i will never ever use the counting machine on the glass thing and i dont care either. plus i was gonna get something but they made me really mad and said that i accused the machine for not working properly and i was right. i had many witnesses too read more

Bunch of tools me and my friend went in there and spent easily $60 and got our receipt. We went to the coin machine and put our ticket on the top of the machine the lady at the counter watched as some guy took our ticket. We told her and said there is nothing we could do we asked to see the camera footage and said she had no access we asked for the managers number and she said no we asked for her name and she said no. over the year we have easily spent $700 there and now the won't do anything she said only thing we could do is file a police report like are kidding me?!
