This city, also serves as a major Polish college town and ranks as the 4th largest city in Poland (population 632,000). Situated prominently in a very old building in the center of the historic Market Square, Spitz has both a casual bar-cafe and a more elegant restaurant situated one flight down from ground level. Despite not having a reservation, our group of four snagged a great table in the stylish dining room with cove-shaped ceilings and centuries-old oil paintings. We quickly ordered a bottle of a nice 2015 Chilean red and got down to enjoying the ambience while perusing the menu. We ordered a delicious appetizer of Grilled Shrimp with, of all things, a Mexican mojo sauce. Two of us also chose a pair of their soup offerings. For entrees, two of us ordered the popular Baked Breaded Sole while another chose another fish alternative...the Grilled Zander w/ potatoes and veggies. Our fourth colleague picked the Rolled Turkey with asparagus and roasted potatoes. Our meals were right on the mark and were crafted with noticeably fresh ingredients. The only thing dragging the rating down to 3.5 stars was the difficulty we had in flagging down our waiter when we noticed a small crack in one of our wine glasses. Sometimes you just have to bite your tongue and remember you are a guest in another's country...3 Stars.

As I sat out front enjoying my raspberry filled croissant with a latte macchiato I watched as tons of people made purchases. The croissants are not French but well made fluffy and flaky. Most of all there were so many items to choose from. Depending on your mood or time of day they have something for you. The Pavlova Tortes looked divine fruit filled that looked light enough to float away. Nice service, good pastries, pretty space, clean and cheap! What could be better? Not much! Communication was limited I cannot speak Polish and their English was limited. But I easily ordered two croissants, one chocolate, the other raspberry filled, a butka (sweet roll) the size of my hand and a latte macchiato all for 12.65 zloty which is approximately $3.40 U.S.. AWESOME!

When I asked some explanations, he replied that his girlfriend said that they will close at 10 but their kitchen will close at 9. She didn't mention this at the phone, and why we would have booked a table at 9 if we couldn't eat? To watch their walls? Not even one "sorry" from the owner, we just had to go to another place. What a shame. If you claim to be "close to Michelin star", well, it's not just about your food (that we couldn't try, and be sure I won't step anymore in your "restaurant") but obviously if you do this as a business and not as a hobby, you should learn to treat people with respect. I hope the same will happen to you and your girlfriend, so maybe you will learn how we were treated tonight. A horrible experience, really. For me, this place deserves less than one star, honestly one of the worst places I ever step in.

If you stay in Poland and you searching for some good sweet... you must try the paczki, a Kind of Donuts or berlin Pfannkuchen (in Berlin called "Berliner") Delicious, super fresh, warm and with lots of variations.. a big selection of fillings.. the Little stores called "Stara Paczkarnia" are located in most of the polish Citys. Second floor has small shops selling clothing, cards, shoe repair services, and more. The flower shops are fascinating just to see, given the large size of many of the arrangements as well as the range of materials used in them. Many of the vendors speak Polish and German, but fewer speak English; nonetheless, most were kind and were happy to sell to us despite our lack of Polish. Most places accepted credit card.

We found IRMA, and purchased a large apple pastry to share for breakfast. The man at the counter (I think the owner) was kind and patient, providing guidance in very good English. It was so good, we went back and bought 3 types of bread rolls to have with our dinner. LOCATION: After entering the Hala Targowa market main entrance, the bakery is located on the right-hand wall, about 1/3rd of the way down the length of the building. It is the only bakery in the market (that we saw).
