The shop is tucked in a quiet part of the Benicia. Surrounding area is very nice. The owner of the shop is very friendly. It looks like they have a lot interesting vintage style clothes and stuff. What a glorious store! My partner found two tops he absolutely loves. I could not afford the amazing jackets I found but I was in awe at seeing them. Serious blasts from the past. There was a poster that I also dearly want but I have to see if I can find space for it. The owner was very friendly and helpful and the rooms were divided by theme (I especially enjoyed the music/concerts room) and he had a great selection of vintage jerseys. He said he cleans all the clothes before putting them out so people can try them on without worries. I can't wait to come back to see what other clothes the owner finds. The store is a little hidden in the back of a little shopping area/offices off of First Street, but there are lots of helpful signs to guide you. Are you a man that is tired of going to vintage clothing stores only to see incredibly high markups, sparse selection, and/or awful customer service? Well, brother! Your search is over! I was lucky enough to find Pocket Monkey Vintage the old fashioned way, strolling the streets of historic old Benicia. First off, the shop is small compared to, say, Buffalo Exchange. Don't let that fool you. It's because the shop is full of actual vintage men's clothes, and not a high end thrift store. And it's ONLY men's clothes, so you don't have to go hunting around to find the men's stuff, like many other shops. Second, the selection. Jay, goes out of his way to only carry high quality vintage clothing and the selection is diverse. Hawaiian shirts, bowling shirts, western shirts, Pendelton's, jackets, cool vintage lunch boxes, toys, household items, records..... Jay keeps it all in this great little space. Third, pricing. Take a look around at the other stores and take a look at Pocket Monkey. Compare his selection to evil bay and etsy. Then compare the prices. Not only is Pocket Monkey in line with the online guys, his stuff is high quality and clean. Lastly, the customer service. You can tell when talking to Jay that he isn't interested in cleaning out your wallet. He loves what he does and he wants you to look good. Every garment has a story and you can sense the thoughtfulness that goes into every piece that Jay puts on his racks. He is not only a retailer, but a true admirer of vintage clothing. (Also, he dry cleans most of his stuff. The store is small in size but is full of awesome vintage items. Everything is cleaned, dry cleaned n ironed. There are sections for Hawaiian shirts, western wear, disco shirts and tons of jackets. Major section of jean and vintage Levi jackets, satin jackets, sports jackets and probably the largest of concert jackets I have ever seen in one place. The owner was extremely helpful. I bought some amazing items and xmas gifts. I had noticed the previous positive reviews. I actually asked the owner - Jay about the negative review from "Rodney" from Reno. Jay said he was surprised by the crazy review and said the guy is actually named "Peter" and lives in Benicia, not Reno. He said he has sold him many items, all at discounts. Jay also said he had actually given this guy many items. I asked about the "fuck" jackets. They were covered and Jay showed them to me. These jackets are custom made and artwork. It's a free country, buy one or not. But does that equal writing a bogus review under a false name and picture of Archie Bunker? Archie Bunker - know for playing a racist on TV. Sounds like this negative review was written by a racist who is afraid to show his real face, name or city. All I can say is everyone I have talked with about this store have had nothing but positive comments about the great vintage clothes and the positive energy from the owner. read more

Awesome vintage shop(real vintage-not faux, which is becoming more common), great selection and good prices! My husband got a beautiful vintage Wrangler pearl snap button shirt that he loves, and the owner gave us a great deal on it. He is incredibly friendly and helpful. I like that this shop has a mix of vintage menswear. From Western styles to Hawaiian, print shirts to baseball jackets and 70s puffy vests(I know I'm forgetting something-but these are what stuck out). It's amazing the selection he has considering the small square footage of the shop. As badly made as modern clothes are(despite the high prices), buying these sorts of vintage pieces just makes sense! We will definitely be back! read more

I was taken back by the meandering review by "Rodney" where he went on a bit of an unhinged tirade spouting his hateful opinions. The Elvis wannabe needs to stop by the 21st century. With all that spare time on his hands, he should read the First Amendment of the Constitution. You know free speech and all that other radical stuff. If Elvis doesn't like what he sees or hears in Benicia, he should consider locking himself in his gas guzzler of a car and blast those radical Elvis songs while riding into the sunset. This place is a gem! It's tiny but has numerous treasures. It's nice to find a vintage men's clothing shop. They're almost always for women. My husband has found a few great jackets. There's a great selection of vintage band shirts. We've also gotten a few good records here as well. The owner is really nice and he has helpful suggestions.
