Fantastic thrift store! The juvenile hall auxiliary is a thrift store whose proceeds goes towards giving the troubled youth a second chance. It provides scholarships, internships and career development for the young people. I had been here once before last year, but I came a few minutes before closing so I didn't get a chance to see everything. I came back last week and this time I got a good look around. I didn't realize that this place is huge! They have several rooms that are all organized by different themes. They have a room for dining/kitchenware, children, men's, women's, holiday items, etc. my favorite were the two Christmas rooms in the back! It was only June, but it definitely put me in the holiday spirit! I got two Christmas items for a cheap deal! Only totaling me $5! Can't wait to come back again! read more

My favorite thrift store! Since my last review it has gotten even better. I even like the dressing room! To be clear it is also the bathrooms but I like that I can try things on. It is so organized and cute. Very clean. Last weekend I bought a great pair of jeans for 3 dollars! Lately I come here just for fun. And the kids stuff! I can keep buying all these toys and clothes and books for cheap. And then when my granddaughter is done with them I donate them back, if they survived. ;) They are open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays 10-2. read more

I came across this thrift store (the hall closet, very cute name) while in the area from out of town. I stopped in twice on my trip. They had a good selection of things. However, on my second stop in, I was very excited for some clothing finds and when I got to the register the lady began going through my items and telling me certain items I could not buy because "someone hadn't priced them high enough." Umm excuse me? How is that my fault? Not sure I will go back, simply due to that interaction. read more

Love this store however for the past several weeks a sign on their front gate says under construction or something like that but still can leave donations. Additionally when you call, their voice mailbox is full. Message to manager it would be nice if your voice mail recording states when a potential re-opening date will occur. Thank you! read more

I've gone here for years so have watched them struggle and they've made so many positive improvements the last few years in set up and quality items. It sucks that people are stealing their plants, pots, etc. from the welcoming front garden area. The prices are reasonable, it's relatively clean and organized. It's a good cause too. Whether you're picking or shopping for yourself it's a good place to stop by. read more

An absolute gem in terms of selection, pricing, and pretty good organization. I love the new holiday rooms! Very cute. Pricing is very fair, and some category is on sale every day. Two points to be aware of - limited selection of kids' clothes, compared to women's (and even men's, unusually large for a thrift store), and the kids' racks aren't as well organized. And the staff (volunteers for the most part) are not super friendly, but again, who cares when the prices and selection are this good? They are supporting a very good cause (kids involved in the juvenile justice system) and you can feel great about shopping here. They put out an A-frame sign on the street by Sheriff's building when they are open, which is currently Tuesday-Saturday, 10-2, then just drive behind the buildings and park in their tiny lot or on the side of the driveway. They have great selection, friendly people, and great prices. However, their hours are minimal. The last 2 times I have shown up on a Saturday between 10:15 and 10:30, they have been closed even though their sign says they open at 10. Once I had a bunch of donations that I ended up having to take elsewhere and once was to shop. It's frustrating when a business doesn't have consistency. read more

I am very, very very disappointed with what used to be my favorite thrift store ever. Recently there has been a new lady at the cashier register. They have 75 percent off hanging in their back rooms, so I grab a hand full of stuff and proceed to checkout. She lies to me saying that all prices were changed to reflect 75 percent off. I know for a fact no prices were changed, because my wife and I have been shopping there every week for about 8 to 10 years. If you shop there be aware of the cashier, she wants to make her own prices. They should move her to the back. I am sad to say I won't be shopping there anymore. The Williams family. read more

This place is simply fantastic- I dont know where to begin. From the friendly & helpful volunteers to the beautiful remodel, words do not do justice ;) You just have to see it for yourself, Nice, fresh inventory is displayed with flair. What separates this thrift store from others is its dirt-cheap prices. Typically, if you go to a chain thrift store, a tshirt will set you back about $6-7; rarely would you be able to find anything for $1. Here, many items are less than $4, with deals on certain week days making things cost as little as a buck. It's not the biggest store, but they get an interesting selection. Although reviews below talked about how mean the staff was, I had nothing but a pleasant experience. My friends and I accidentally walked in through the back, and the women working in the back room were friendly and understanding. The man at the cash register seemed happy to be there. And with a good amount of parking, I think I've found my new go-to place to find new cheap threads. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE, IF I COULD GIVE THEM A BILLION STARS, I WOULD! Today was my first time at this store, and I had the best experience ever! My brother and I decided to go because they have a sale the first Saturday of every month (the sale was WAAAAY better than what we expected). SALE: They give you a paper bag and anything you can fit in the bag (shoes, clothes, purses, belts) is $5. THE WHOLE BAG IS $5!! Yes, you read that right. Fill the bag with what you want, and it's only $5!!! We filled up 2 bags: 1st Bag: - 15 belts (one of them was a Coach Belt, and one of them was Genuine Snake Skin! What a deal!!) - 3 purses 2nd Bag: - 2 jackets - 1 blazer ( BANANA REPUBLIC!!) - 2 shirts - a teddy bear All of that for just $10?! I would've paid $10 easy for just the Banana Republic Blazer! All the proceeds also go towards a good cause (it's for the youth). All of the employees (I think most are actually volunteers) were so kind and generous. The man working at the cashier was wonderful and had jokes for days! I will definitely be returning here to donate a lot of my things, and definitely to come back for that sale!! :) read more

Okay, I have a few things to say about this place. Let's start with the good. The Hall Closet has a unique set-up like that of a house with different themed rooms, i.e. kitchen, linens, sports, men's wear, etc. which I thought was kinda cool. They also take credit/debit cards which is a plus. The not so good: First of all, it is extremely difficult to find if you miss the signs. I had to ask one of the workers in the area where it was and she directed me. My main issue is this: I was appalled by the language I heard being exchanged between some of the workers there. The conversation was about who was from East Oakland, and specifically which of the 'numbered' streets they were from, all during which the "N" word was being thrown out like nothing. Mind you, I was just the next room over, and there were other customers there too within earshot. The conversation ended with the girl saying to the guy who was back & forth between the donation room and the front counter, "I'm gonna get somebody to come up here and kick your a$$." While I couldn't care less about two people having an exchange of words with each other, whether jokingly or seriously, I do mind that it was carried out in such a thoughtless and unprofessional way in front of customers who are actually supporting a good cause by their shopping. If you lose those customers, you lose that support, and for it to happen in this way is absolutely unacceptable. read more

I used to go here every week, but then with work and their hours of operation I was only able to go on the first Saturday of the month. Which is actually the best time to go for clothes since they usually do a paper bag full of clothes for $5. Otherwise they are still cheaper for things than goodwill or salvation army. Usually the average cost per item is $2. Also the people that work there are very nice which for me makes going there even better. And they have a good cause. They give money to underprivileged members of the community so they can afford to continue their education and also to the youth at the juvenile hall. All in all always had good experiences and some of the workers got to know my face and would always say hi. read more

It was a little hard to find, but they put signs up which is helpful. They are completely run by volunteers and all proceeds go to at risk youth. The store itself is medium size once you add up all the smaller rooms. They separate things by category which is nice if you're looking for something specific (clothes/accessories, furniture, linens, kitchen, sporting goods, electronics). They also have an area outside where they have "last chance" things that didn't sell that they are giving away. I thought that was a great idea so they don't have the same things sitting in the store forever never selling. These items aren't top of the line, but some household necessities (baking sheets, cheese graters, salt and pepper shakers, beat up chair). I've only been once so far so I can't speak to overall quality of things that come in, but there were some good finds and some throw aways when I was there. They price most things by category (all dresses $5, all shoes $3, etc.) which is good for nicer items and bad for things that are beat up. I read all the reviews and went to the Hall Closet with full of excitement. But... this new opened store is not what I expected. I saw a bin of clothes that we can fill a paper bag full and it is $1. Well, the quality of the clothes is poor. I didn't see anything I would wear in the bins. Inside the store, most of the things are "very used" items. Nothing is new or like new. Children's section is very small. Not much furniture. I know this place has a good cause, but I don't think I will go there again. read more

I really like the thrift store. They have a variety of interesting items. There rooms are laid out nicely and well organized. It is FILLED with STUFF... All kinds of stuff...It is all mostly SUPER cheap, seriously, even cheaper than Goodwill.. In the first room, there were several racks of clothing where everything was $1. I got a nice belt for $0.25 (compared to $2-$4 for belts at Goodwill). Man, there were so many belts.. There was also a box of comic books for $0.25 each, mostly Marvel, I considered buying some but didn't. It is kind of crowded and overloaded with stuff, a lot of it just seems like junk but if you spend some time and look through things you will probably find something. There's clothes, books, kitchenware, toys, etc., and then a bunch of random stuff. I saw this photo album with a picture of a couple on the first page. I wondered who they were. There were a few signs out on the sidewalks but it was initially kind of hard to find the place. Just keep looking hard for those signs and try to follow them. The parking lot is fairly big. Five stars for the cause, supporting the youth in our community. Five stars for the way the store is set up, it's separated by category. Five stars for prices. I went there looking for books. I got a very nice hardcover LIFE "Our Century in Pictures" as well as a cookbook, novel and 5 children's books for $2.80. 1.5 stars for customer service. Just because you volunteer your time doesn't give you the right to act like a condescending jerk. The little peculiar looking guy with the thick glasses and the golf tee looking thing through his ear is a nasty lil fellow. I asked if I could set my books on the counter. My back and shoulder were killing me I had even left my purse in the trunk. He told me to grab a hand basket unit. I told him I saw the baskets but due to a back injury I couldn't carry it. He told me again to get a basket. I said never mind, thank you. He said to go ahead and put them on the counter but in the future to use a hand basket. Look you little troll, what part of back injury did you not comprehend? I look around for a while then go to check out with my books. I was shocked that I would have enough with the $5 bill in my pocket to make the purchase with out having to use plastic. I look to the left and see a donation box. I figured I would throw the $5 in there on my way out and put the purchase on my Disney Visa, kind of making a double donation. I give the little leprechaun behind the counter my credit card. It's unfortunate that with his thick ass glasses he didn't see the obvious Disney characters and the big VISA in bold letters. He slid my card and gave me the keypad thing to enter my pin. I told him it wasn't an ATM card. He made some under his breath noise/grunt. I said "Do you not take credit cards?" This little judgmental jerk face jerk says "Yeah, I'm just not use to anyone using a credit card for that amount." Wow really? Because I wanted to save my cash to donate you talk to me like I'm below you? I'm a County Employee and I can say I will never ever step foot back into that place. read more

Let's just say that I walked out of there with a HUGE bag of really interesting vintage items for under $5. Unbelievable, right? This place is my favorite. It's worth the trip to that area that we dread to go to when you get a piece of mail calling you for jury duty. ugh. Really, though, this place is huge. It was kind of chaotic with so much stuff that they have but at the time of my visit they were in the process of moving. All proceeds go to support the kids at the Contra Costa Juvenile Hall. Yay. Such an odd location, literally tucked into a small corner office suite behind the Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall. Selection was definitely on the smallish side, but the clothing was in good condition, clean and organized. For a vintage thrifter, this might prove to be a hidden gem. My first visit today hauled in a vintage pleated Evan Picone skirt, light turquoise 80's silk/angora blend dolman sleeve sweater with crochet and pearl detailing,a soft pink 80's angora/silk blend Organically Grown brand sweater, and two skinny vintage leather belts. The grand total: $11. This shop is definitely on my return visit list. read more

Great thrifting to be had here, with great prices, friendly staff, good parking, bag sales, and a logically arranged shop. There's even a dedicated kitchen room that was well organized, clean, and full of great stuff. Tons of sewing supplies and fabrics, books, etc.. This store is by far my favorite in Contra Costa County. I used to volunteer here, everyone is friendly and the store is chock full of stuff... Once you shop here and get used to the prices, you will never want to shop at another thrift store again. They get in all kinds of donations from the community and use the money 100% to help kids in juvenile hall, provide scholarships for them when they get out, pay for reading glasses and gang tattoo removal. There is hardly anything in the store that is over $10 with most things being in the $1-$5 range. Clothes are 1/2 off on the last week of the month, and $5 bag sale is the first saturday of the month. They changed their hours and are now open on Mondays until 5pm. Many of the antique dealers from the area shop here and think it is their secret, but they all end up chatting on the steps out front and comparing their finds. It is behind Juvenile Hall in the OLD juvenile hall building. Just go back behind and follow the signs. You won't be disappointed. And make this your costume stop at Halloween, Ruthie does up the upstairs in a big way for Halloween and you can get all kinds of cool costumes for super cheap. read more

Visited today for the first time. When you see the sign as you pull into the parking lot, keep driving straight until you see another sign that tells you to turn left. It will be on your left (parking is to the right). Very nice thrift store - much larger than I was expecting. Lots of different rooms where they have items by categories (i.e., Electronics, Kitchenware, Mens Clothing). Store is clean and organized. Out in the back (you walk outside) there are items under a tent that you can purchase by putting into a paper bag and paying one really low price (it was somewhere between $2-$5). I didn't buy anything so I don't remember the price. If I lived closer, I would probably go back frequently. read more
