Captain Charlie then offered to take us out into the Gulf as it was a calm day and we ventured out a few miles to a great spot on a nature reef. He truly is knowledgeable about fishing and where the fish are. He got us on the fish, even when the weather was not providing us the best fishing. My buddy and I had a blast and were were surprised how Eric was able to teach us how to fish effectively, since we had not been fishing in about 10 years. He would give tips on where to anchor your kayak, where to cast the line out to, how to use the bait properly so you get tons of hits, and how to avoid the fish "falling" of the hook. We caught several trout and one flounder. Again the weather was not ideal for a world record day but the 4 hours flew by because we were catching stuff. Since my buddy was in town only for a few days we wanted to go one way or another and knew the weather was less than ideal. He is a very personable individual and was engaging in conversation. For the people who might not want to touch the fish, this is the guide you want. He was more than happy to come over and get the fish off the hook for you, if you wanted. He also would rebait the hook and make sure your back fishing fast. Kayak fishing with Eric was super easy, fun, and clean fishing!!!! The kayaks and fishing gear he uses are top notch! Captain David White was our host (3 of us) in his nice clean boat. The initial focus was on catching something legal we could eat for dinner. So our first stop (locations are secret) was for GAG Grouper. David was patient in setting up our rods and bait, and explained how these fish would be like a street fight. So fast - they hit and run down into hidey holes where you lose your hook and and your fish. We caught a few, but all undersized. We cruised over to second spot and caught two legit 26" and 28" - so dinner for and Captain David was covered. We spent time at two other spots and caught Snook, one legal Redfish (we released anyway) and some Jack - including a huge last fish that took 10 minutes to bring in. When I got bored with catching the same type of fish over and over again, Tony took us to an artificial reef where we caught grouper, Key West grunt, Spanish mackerel, a puffer fish, black bass, spot tail, a croaker, Jack, and more. Brother had traveled from Michigan for this, so that was a "no." The fellas spent an entire morning lined up with countless other boats in Charlotte Harbor attempting to entice tarpon and had NOT ONE BITE all day. No offer of a partial refund for tardiness.
