Had a great time with Cortez Deep Sea Fishing. It was stormy out today so the capt. ran us south and around. May have lost a bit of time but not their fault. First couple stops were finding too many baitfish and not enough keepers so he just kept searching. Found a couple great spots. Lots of Grey snapper, grouper, couple porgies, even a flounder. Red tide going on right now may have had some effect, again not the crews fault. We caught a catfish which had Kevin the deckhand absolutely baffled. Kevin worked his butt off as a deckhand. Can't thank him enough for his tips and tricks and fun attitude. For those that struggle to catch fish...its a you problem. They put you on the fish it's on you to notice the bite and land the fish. We fished for 3 hours and landed 33 fish between 3 of us. Our 4th didn't want to listen to Kevin...he caught 3, and only 1 keeper. Results speak for themselves. read more

Went out on fishing on 22 March 2024. Had a blast. Captain Gary and mate Kevin made it an awesome trip. Caught quite a few fish and had some for diner that night, delicious. Those two guys really work well together. Kevin was always around to take your fish off the hook or change your set up if you got snagged. The captain consistently found good fishing spots. I will definitely be back for another trip with that crew! read more

so we had a fishing charter confirmed and paid for this morning. We got up early, prepared a cooler,drove out to Cortez Seafood Shack. Cortez Deep Sea Fishing. We got there on time,not a soul stirring. Our confirmation said the boat was to be Mattansas. So I walked around til I found it. Nobody home, no one answering the phone now. A dock guy told us that boat hasn't moved in months AND were working on their CG certs still, NICE. We paid over $500 bucks for this bullshit, I understand shit happens-but these creeps didn't even have the courtesy to call us. So here's the deal-NONE of that crew- Cortez Deep Sea fishing- will ever see any business from us again. Do yourself a favor and fish with any one else but these people. read more

Cortez Deep Sea Fishing is awesome. We took a 6 hour morning trip a few days after Christmas. Arlene was great about contacting us before and ensuring we were still confirmed, as well as details on parking and the shuttle to the boat from the lot. The boat left on time and everyone on board caught a fair amount of fish. Our group of two alone caught 17 fish, with 4 different varieties. The trip out was about 90 minutes, but the bridge was not operating on they way back and we had to go around Anna Maria island, which doubled the time of the ride. That wasn't so bad as we had a pod of dolphins surfing in our wake and getting pushed off the bow. Crew and captain were great, as was Arlene (who runs all the administration on shore). Everyone was super friendly, helpful and fun. They made the whole experience really enjoyable and everyone had a smile on their face despite the delayed trip back home. Would definitely get another charter with them in the future when we visit again. read more

Our trip was cancelled twice on us, first time not enough people, and second due to weather all understandable. I was unable to reschedule again as I was on vacation and leaving. They stated they would refund me, but still nothing. I have called 3 times, emailed and just today decided to go the social media route, which I never do. They advised the refund would not go through, since my card was no longer valid ( I had to get a new card ), I was told they would talk to a supervisor and call me back... still waiting and no refund. I purchased this trip on June, so cannot dispute charges. I need this company to get me my refund ASAP!! read more

Great time. Everybody on the boat caught fish - the good fisher-persons who know exactly how and when to set the hook caught buckets of fish. We caught our share and had an awesome fish dinner. Weather was perfect (that's more chance than anything, but it was great). We sailed out about fourteen miles, very enjoyable cruise, caught fish at every anchor drop. The first mate was fantastic - friendly, talkative, helpful. All in all, a great experience and we'll go back to these guys again if we get the chance. read more

Had a very nice trip. The red tide had ripped the area so they consolidated for one large trip on Friday and went out 8-4. The fishing was pretty good, not the most I have had but with the tide and end of season, it was still not bad. Everyone I spoke with was very nice. The lady that books the trips kept me in the loop when we didn't think there was going to be a trip, and the two deck hands were very knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. There was a pretty bad current so those that didn't have much experience were having a tough time not tangling lines. Those guys straightened them out and kept everyone fishing. Seems like they have a "season pass" that some locals take advantage of and they were all very nice. My only suggestion would be a little more direction for newer fisherman. I have done many of these trips, but I saw several folks missing fish because they didn't know how to set circle hooks. But other than that, they provided exactly what I wanted, an affordable trip that let me come home with some fresh snapper. There were even some nice grouper pulled in. Amazing first deep sea fishing experience! Captain was very professional and experienced helping us to catch the fish! It was so excited! We have had a lot of fun:) Weather was a little suspicious because of the rain and waves but we was feeling safe and confident with the Cap! Wonderful day on the water. Great weather and caught many snappers. The captain and mate were excellent. Caught several small red grouper. We guess the water was too cold for the big fish. You could see lots of fish on the bottom. Tried many spots. The water was so calm. We saw lots of dolphins 20 miles out play. Beautiful site. Will certainly go back out on this boat. read more

Went on sunset 6hr cruise. At least a third of our boat got sea sick, we were a full boat. Captain knows what he's doing when it comes to fishing spots. 2 heads but one was being "renovated." 2 crew for 35, let's just say wish we brought our own pliers. Being our first time on a head boat, the instructions were so-so by the mate. And when they were filleting, the mate was complaining about working 16hrs and was a little rude at that point. Sorry not my problem. Wish I could've taken back my tip. The fish were ok/small for what I expected. No more head boats for me. I'll spend the extra and do a charter. Worst day ever! 23 people, $2300, 25 fish. The captains had a pre-paid tip as we booked a charter and it showed. They didn't help us and in fact gave us the bait to later question why we were using it because it was from an earlier trip (why was it there?). The line used was too small and it broke several times when a larger fish was pulling. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY! We were very disappointed to say the least. We will go back to Johns Pass from now on, we've had amazing experiences there. read more

While the vessel may be sea worthy, the safety briefing could have been better...nothing about safety was discussed, such as where life vests were stored, any emergency procedures. Fishing was pretty awful, the places they go have very little fish, this is my most recent fishing experience two times little action. The gear was in terrible shape, old rods and reels, it took me 4 outfits before I got a unit that worked OK, one reel exploded it was so rotten. The lines really need to be changed at one set I never got a bait in the water the line was so fouled, full of memory, that it made knots and lots of them. When you only make a few stops losing a set reduces your success by 25%. There was only one working head, and the mate told us not to deposit any toilet paper but to put it in a bucket. Is that really sanitary or safe. The boat had not gone out in several days so they had time to get this fixed. But positive, we did see a sailfish and a school of rays plus several pods of dolphins. The mate, Kevin, was very hard working and good at his job. The lack of quality equipment and non working toilets makes this company questionable, and working on a very thin margin, where else are they cutting corners? Wonder when was the last Coast Guard inspection? read more

This was a birthday gift to my husband, who since moving here 2 months earlier has been dying to go fishing. The crew is wonderful and so helpful. They get excited when you catch a fish, which happens every time you drop your line! They come around and help you get the fish off the hook and love taking your photo with your catch. My only advice is be prepared to avoid getting sea sick. I made the mistake of not eating breakfast and not taking Dramamine that someone offered me earlier. I thought I would be fine, but missed the whole experience trying not to "be sick". My husband caught 10 fish and 5 were keepers. After you dock, they clean your fish and filet them as well. We cooked them for dinner that night and it was delicious. It was actually pretty cool that we were eating food he caught! read more

Worst day at sea ever! After trying many times to contact the owner of this fishing business, I have decided to post a review to hopefully tell other Yelpers buyer beware. The boat should have never gone out on choppy waters. When out to sea, most of our private charter was sick. The bait was leftover from the morning trip. Smelly and old. The first mate, who has since been suspended from his job for poor performance, was unpersonable and not helpful with instruction. We were sick, a group of 20 caught less than 20 fish and it was downright miserable. We contacted the owner to discuss the issues. He relayed a message to us that he suspended the first mate and would return $300 out of the over $2000 we paid. No thank you. $300 divided by 20 people for an awful, wasted day that clearly was the companies fault. Maybe others have had a good experience but should you have a bad one, they will not do anything to help you as a customer. They get paid at the beginning of the trip and provide little service from that point on. #cortezdeepseafishing wasted a day of our vacation! read more

Good price. They took great care of my daughter and me. Weather was pretty cool, cloudy, windy... kinda a bummer considering we were down for Spring Break. The captain found a way to change our mood by moving around and keeping us on top of fish. Between the two of us we caught about 25 fish. I took my adult son out for his first deep sea experience on the Eddy Lee on the recommendation of my brother-in-law and nephew. We had a blast. Between the two of use we took home 16 gray snappers and a red grouper. We both also caught gag groupers (although they were out of season and had to go back in the water.) With 17 people fishing there was plenty of room to fish and not get tangled with other lines as has happened on other packed boats. We had planned to go back one July 6th for the 6hr trip when they announced that they were having a 10hr gag grouper trip on the 6th. We signed up and are ready to go again. read more

Best charter I've ever been on. Gone out with them 4-5 times now. Always get a ton of fish and they clean em for you as soon as you get back so you can cook em up as soon as you get home. Can't wait to go back out on the Eddy Lee! read more
