This five star rating is for the PODS Mililani, Hawai'i team: Tim, Jay, Jimmy, Tony, and Richie (and the manager on site, whose name I did not catch). It's not for the corporation as a whole (HQ in Florida). Tim and Jay were WONDERFUL in troubleshooting when our stuff arrived by POD. They discovered that the POD door was bulging and jammed shut due to trunks shifting during a bumpy container ship ride across the ocean, even though we had strapped most items down. They performed impressively dexterous POD container tilting and shaking with a forklift in order to move the jammed items away from the interior of the POD door so that they could open our POD door in advance at the Mililani facility. It would have been awful to have the POD delivered first, only to be stuck at home with a jammed POD door and no way to get it open ourselves. On delivery day, Jimmy, our delivery driver, called ahead to let us know he was on his way and arrived within the estimated delivery window time (so that we could be at home). For pickup, Tony, Tim and Richie were once again a great team and on time. Everyone at POD Mililani was friendly, professional, proactive, and helpful! For Florida-based POD Corporate and for Sylmar POD in Los Angeles, for a move from Los Angeles to Hawai'i, I would rate three stars. Shipping to Hawai'i is not easy. PODS was the cheapest way to move our things to Hawai'i without theft, BUT...there were a LOT of unpleasant surprises. Be prepared. The Sylmar facility on the Los Angeles end couldn't/wouldn't deliver a 16' POD container to our Altadena house. They also couldn't/wouldn't deliver a POD to Arroyo Parkway Self Storage facility in Pasadena, where we ended up storing our things. Arroyo Parkway Self Storage even had a beautiful loading dock ready for large trucks. We were forced to rent a U-Haul and hire labor to carry our things from Arroyo Parkway Self Storage all the way to the Sylmar POD facility for our Hawai'i move! It's hardly even a POD, if you have to rent your own U-Haul ($!) and carry your things ($!) to a distant PODS receiving facility! Furthermore, another reviewer correctly pointed out that unnecessary, costly delays are knowingly built into the POD corporate procedure for sending things from Continental U.S. to Hawai'i. Conscientious staff gave phone "shipping" quotes that seemed transparent and detailed; they do the best they can. But corporate starts the clock prematurely to burn through weeks' worth of "free rent" on both the Los Angeles and Honolulu end, ensuring that you cannot possibly get a "free first month of storage." No free delivery/pickup on the L.A. end, no "free month of storage"...these are false offers in the case of Hawai'i moves. Due to the Jones Act, only two companies by law can send container ships to Hawai'i: Maston and Pasha. Every other moving company has to hitch a ride on a Matson or Pasha boat. Matson and Pasha have ships leaving Los Angeles every week. Matson (which we hired to ship our vehicles separately) said it was not a busy week. POD needed several days for our Sylmar-loaded POD container (after we delivered our own goods to Sylmar in a U-Haul!) to get to San Diego and onto a ship. Understandable. But the Corporate designed delay in Hawaii was unnecessary. From physical ARRIVAL in Honolulu dock, to internal transfer and forced holding at the Mililani storage facility, to "available delivery date" to our new residence, was a MONTH more. Hmm. Those internal delays/holds by POD are not quoted by phone as a "shipping cost." Those end up quietly being counted as "rental time" on the clock for the customer!! Just accept that you will burn through your allotment of "free rent," paying for PODS Corporate's games. We considered driving over to Mililani with our own U-Haul and self-delivering from Mililani to our new Windward Side residence. But that would have made the "free final delivery" offer fake, too--just like the "free pickup" in Los Angeles didn't actually exist for us. We decided to wait and have Corporate pay the Mililani branch to deliver to our new residence, as quoted. Damage to our goods: a 16' sized POD container has visible, built in strapping hooks only 3/4 of the way along the interior walls. The remaining 4' length near the POD's rolling door has no strapping hooks! We were told afterwards there are invisible, recessed, short metal bars next to the door supports that are not shown in the PODS instructional video, but those are not official strapping hooks. Our items were well packed in stacking, LEGO like sturdy plastic Weathertight brand trunks (a great investment). We carefully strapped down what we COULD. The trunks that could not be strapped down shifted during bumpy ocean transit, and jammed themselves against the POD door interior. The Weathertights were chewed up and destroyed when the door had to be forced open by Tim/Jay on arrival. That was not anyone's fault. Our packed things did get here intact, for the price quoted! read more

Very disappointed. Great quote but bait and switch artists. 100% scammers. Charged credit before contract signed. Moving is not received recommended as they try to drag out rental fees. They have woke managers with a few excellent employees who try hard but get undermined by unqualified leadership. I feel bad for the employees who are working there as the managers scam the customers. They wasted a lot of time before I switched to UPS freight forwarding and received very positive results. read more

So my PODS experience wasn't a complete loss but there are some things you need to be aware of. If you are moving to and from Hawaii like I did be very careful. You cant use the regular website to track stuff because its on a boat and I had to call for everything. The first person I talked to gave me a quote and was good but he was supposed to email me the quote and after a while I never received it. By the time I realized and called back that quote was no longer good and the price went up. Of course the email he typed in was wrong yet he read it back to me correct, even though it was their mistake they didn't honor the first quote. The next agent that explained everything had mentioned the rental price but didnt explain it well and I though that was the rental price for the POD if you needed storage not the fact that you are paying to rent the POD for 450 a month and than your paying a over inflated shipping charge and 2 delivery fees one on each end. I'm not sure how they get off charging you 4800 dollars when they send you the booking receipt from the Shipping company and its 2100. Really 2700 dollars to book it for you with PASHA. Doesn't add up to me, then they think they are slick booking a boat 2 weeks after you have it picked up to waste time. Boats leave HNL every fri so there really isn't any reason it had to sit there. Then when it arrives back to the mainland they don't call you and tell you they wait for you to call after not hearing anything from them. Our POD got to San Diego at the beginning of the month and because they never said anything and I waited until the 12th which was the approximate time they gave me I had to now pay another months rental of the POD AGAIN. WHAT A SCAM, if they would've said it had arrived it could've been to NV the next day and I wouldn't of had to pay this ridiculous rental fee. trying to call these people is a joke too , you always get someone in a call center in who knows what country and they can only read the script and cant make any decisions on their own to help the customer. Good luck trying to get a number for corp to complain no such number exists. The POD was clean, I packed my stuff and it made it safely , but I needed the POD facing a certain way on the truck for delivery and it was wrong, I asked for it to be delivered on a certain day and I couldn't get that because they were booked. Again if you had let me know my POD was arriving at the start of the month I could've pre arranged a date that worked. It just seems like they roped me in with vague explanations of the process and hid any information about my POD by making me call. What was strange was that all of a sudden after it arrived on the mainland and I called I could all of a sudden see docs and shipping docs on the account. Every other time it said unavailable due to it being a Hawaii shipment please call for info. Very Convenient if you ask me. Please just be aware of what you're getting and make sure you call over and over to get updates so that you don't get overcharged like I did. For moving from Hawaii it is a money saver and could be even cheaper if they don't waste your time and get it on and off a boat right away and let you know. read more

If I could give 0 I would.. we have our pod stored in the mililani storage facility and have had 2 pickup dates where yall didn't even get our pod ready for pick up.. so had to reschedule twice and pay twice 400 dollars.. paying for something that wasn't my wrong doing.. yall need to do better cause making someone pay 400 dollars for storage and needing it to be picked up knowing yall knew the date and didn't have it ready is just ridiculous.. will never use pods again!!! read more

Moving is not easy. Let me start over. Even when moving less than 10 miles away, moving is not easy. I looked for options and considered a moving company. It just didn't make sense to hire a moving company for a short move. Luckily I found out about PODS. Basically, they BRING the storage to you. You pack your stuff (or have movers pack your stuff) in the storage. They pick it up and store it until the day you move into your new place. On that day they deliver it to the new address! I called, got a quote and was able to reserve our dates of delivery. Things to know: If you don't have a driveway, you will need room of 3 parking stalls to have the storage fit, at least for the delivery. Planning is everything. Make sure you got your dates down. If you need things stored for more than 30 days, you might have to pay extra. If you are doing a small move, they would be a great option It saves money compared to getting a full blown moving company, especially if your move is on island. Price is about the same for renting a storage to getting a company. Storage pods come in different sizes! Small, medium and large moves. We saved money on moving by renting a POD. They delivered in the morning and we had all weekend to load are things up. Since it was on our parking stall, we had them pick up and store the POD until our move in day. When we FINALLY got our keys to our new place, the POD was delivered the same day. NOTHING inside shifted! Nothing broke! All was as If we just closed the storage door. It really made our move a LOT easier knowing our things were safely stored just as we have left them. Overall, this was a great way to save money while moving. It is a good option for moves within the Island. The one thing that made it sour was they overcharged me. Although I was refunded, they wouldn't refund $75 for an insurance fee. It would have been ok, but, I called in advance about the charges. They told it will be fixed before the move day That did not happen and so I was stick with an nonrefundable fee. So, if you do use this service, make sure to check your dates and your price. Better yet, call the local number not the 1800 number. read more

Thank you so much to PODS for helping my family in their time of need! My family had hired a different service to move their things and long story short: their things never left the island... Three months later. They paid that other company up front and still have not even received a refund. They are still waiting. My cousins moved from Hawaii to Georgia and they entrusted another company to help love their things. They left in the very beginning of July, and by the end of July they were getting to run around from the other company. By October they were already struggling to hold onto hope that it may come, however it never did. They reached out to PODS for help and they were able to help them and move their items. Their items had not left O'ahu, even by October. PODS stepped in to save the day and get their items to them! We appreciate you guys so much! read more

The door was jammed. The customer service advice was to try being aggressive with it. That didn't work. Practically giving me "try whacking the television" type of advice. Then I'm told they will have to come pick it up the next day aka ruining my busy schedule and wasting my time. So be it. The lady on the phone said to give the key to the lock to the driver. I get a call from the mililani location and I'm told I need to drive to mililani and bring the key because of security and privacy issues. Understandable. But why was I told on the phone by a customer service worker to give the key to the lock to the driver? That's practically the same fact opposite of what I'm told. So I go to mililani and I'm told that there is no one even there to help and that the only solution IS FOR ME to HELP aka do their job?????? And I have to sign a waiver saying I won't sue them if something breaks in the pod for them shaking it around on the fork lift? I drove out from town to mililani for nothing. Wow. No, never have I encountered a situation like this. Thank you for wasting my time. I will file a dispute, and I will get my money back. Expecting whoever is in charge to call me, and maybe I'll consider withdrawing my decision. read more

Me and my wife moved from Kapolei Hawaii to Colorado .I payed the upfront price of over 8456$ . Pods in Kapolei came and picked up. Me and my wife flew to Colorado. 4 weeks later I get a call saying they didn't ship my pod.. I tried to get on their website but I was locked out of my account. I tried calling the initial person in Florida and was redirected to this lady. We started our PODs experience bright and early this morning when I got a call from Jimmy letting me know he was on the way. Jimmy is awesome! He placed our 7' POD in an extremely tight spot on a curve, on a hill in just a few minutes. He explained the process and made some suggestions for packing and tracking. We had a 4 hour window for same day pickup and were done packing a little early. I called Jimmy and he came to pick it up right on time. I'm so mad at PODS right now! We are moving from Hawaii to Florida. POD was delivered on 9/15, we packed it and PODS picked it up on 9/19. So far, so good. The pickup driver said to call when we had our delivery address in Florida. Fast forward 5 and a 1/2 weeks to 10/27 when I called PODS to give them a delivery address and check on the move status. THE POD IS STILL SITTING IN THEIR HAWAII WAREHOUSE!!!! The "best" they could do is get me on the calendar for the POD to go out on November 15th for delivery in mid-December. Ridiculous!!! read more

Horrible horrible experience with PODS. Moving from HI to RI, we were assured a one month quote. Have the email receipts and everything and I'm sure the call was recorded. We scheduled our whole move, plane tickets & movers, to arrive on the same day (July 8th). The day comes and no pod. Call customer service and they have no clue where the pod is. We are in our new home with only the stuff we could bring on the plane. A few days pass, call pods again to follow up and they determined the pod arrived in San Diego on June 27th but would be available to arrive to RI until July 19th. Keep in mind we arrived, with our animals in tow, on July 8th. To make matters worse, PODS is now charging us a second month of rent and insurance since it did not arrive on the July 8th. Now why should we be charged for their delay? So we arrived with nothing, had to purchase things for us to live while we waited for pod to arrive, and now we have to pay more? No direct answers from representatives and they blew us off, basically didn't hear from them unless we called and called. After our initial review on yelp, a person from billing finally contacted us only because their marketing dept forwarded our complaint. LESSON: GO THROUGH YELP IF YOU WANT SERVICE. It's been three days since I spoke with billing where they said they would investigate and get back to us. That was Monday July 22. Still nothing. It is illegal to charge us for their delay. I don't know much about these movers except that they are VERY RESPONSIVE withon minutes to answer any and all your questions and needs. I needed to move something and OMG! If you had questions, so do they. Just be sure when calling any movers. Be ready to have all your questions answered and be ready to answer theirs. They really need to know what you're moving, when you'll be moving etc. . . They try to make it work out best for you and them and that's really great! June 8th Delivery - Highly recommend using PODs especially if you are on a tight budget. Truck driver Tony was very professional and he made it work to where the placement of the POD container fit to where I had requested. At first glance of the container it was way too big for the side driveway, but Tony maneuvered that thing and he made sure he made that container fit. The placement of the container was very important to me because it had to be close to my front door because I am loading this container alone by myself. I live on base housing so they are very strict with blocking the sidewalk and grassy areas. Although the container slightly overlapped onto grass base housing gave approval, special case approval. Thanks to Tony for his expertise in controlling the remote, everything worked out. June 17th pick up - once again another outstanding update to my previous review. This time it was another driver Jimmy, he was very friendly and ensured everything will be ok. He was very professional and on time pickup. Both drivers called 30mins prior to delivery and pickup. Seriously, PODS? I don't care if the times are standard to Eastern time. For one thing, that is stupid, as we obviously don't all live on the East Coast. For another, that text came through at 6:30 am Eastern Time, which is still too early to be texting people something not urgent. Rather than blaming the automated system, FIX IT. I only give one sat because the initial customer service and the delivery drivers were extremely nice. The port was late unloading my POD by two days. PODS charged me for a 1-month storage for this. This was not my fault and I had to sleep on floor for 2 days because it was late. I called PODS 3 times and was ensured I would receive a 1-month credit that they already charged. The 4th call - because I never received the credit, was patronizing and insulting. PODS advised they could only "afford" to give me a 1/3 of what they owed me. They were great. Very accommodating. They helped us in every aspect from bringing containers, picking them up on time then storing them.

The entire PODS Hawaiian team did an excellent job in handling the transportation and storage of our belongings from Connecticut. There were many steps due to the USDA, Gypsy Moths, and other agencies. PODS walked us through each step and was absolutely amazing at communicating with us. In particular Keith Tabet is outstanding in how he explained every detail and process. So we used pods and the driver crashed into my trailer and dented it and broke my tail light, with the machine they use to pick up/drop off the pod and I can't get ahold of anyone to have it fixed or get reimbursed for the damages. All I got was the drivers number and that's not going anywhere. Does anyone know anyone I can call locally who works at the company to have this taken care of? read more

I moved from Seattle to Honolulu. Pods quoted me 3 weeks and $6200 for pickup and delivery. They bungled the required forms, took 2 months to get the containers here, and then billed me $550 in monthly storage charges for their delays. Now they are taking 30 days + to decide if they will refund the storage charge! Nickel and dining with no customer service. My friend used UPACK for $4000 and it was here within 3 weeks, no issues!!! The PODS Hawaii staff are polite and helpful, but beware mainland movers. The National PODS Customer Service model requires Hawaii movers to call for any transaction or simple question. Online self-service options are disabled and the FAQ is extremely limited. AND, there seems to be no direct queue for Hawaii callers. You call in to the main customer service center, are on hold for a while, and then when they answer they have to transfer you to a special Hawaii rep for whom you'll have to hold again. I spent three hours on hold to schedule a non-complex mainland delivery simply because it originated in Hawaii. A subsequent call just to confirm inclement weather policy(not posted online that i could find) meant another 30 minutes on hold. I don't think I need a HI rep to tell me whether a truck in VA can deliver in snow. I hope PODS reads these reviews, as I think some simple process adjustments would vastly improve customer experience and ultimately my review. My experience otherwise has been fine. read more

So convenient! I had to move temporarily, so rather than move everything to the temp place, and then move everything again, I loaded a POD with all the non-essentials & furniture, and had them store it for me. Worked out perfectly! I love that everything can be arranged online. They are always on time, very friendly and efficient.
