Love this place! We come here often bc of the Infinity Birthing Center (expecting our baby girl in May 2016) I usually order a fresh cranberry nut muffin. They are large moist and fresh! Their coffee is on point. Today was the first time I had their lunch. I ordered the Apple Turkey: turkey, Brie, apple butter, green apple slices and spinach on sour dough pressed. It is absolutely delicious. I also ordered a salad. So green and leafy and packed conveniently for left overs. My husband ordered the tuna salad and he said it is, "Yum". It's always a goal to eat and drink in the one-of-a-kind spots where the locals eat. Small but good menu of light lunch items, oatmeal, yummy muffins and the Magic Cheese Bagel are just a few of the food items. I mention the Magic Cheese bagel because it was GOOD and unique. I love to get a unique breakfast item. Coffee is well executed. I had a Caramel Latte and The Man had a standard brew. His one frustration was he had to ask for cream and the place had a line of locals waiting to order. It's always nice when they leave the coffee fixing out. Poets has really done well over the years. When I left town for school, poets was an ok coffee shop with average coffee. Since moving back we have been almost every other day. The espresso is excellent and the mochas are some of the best we have had anywhere. Locals and people stopping through Cookeville would do well to not overlook this place. read more

In town for business and we needed some caffeine. Quickly found Poet's online and stopped in for a relaxing hour of sipping coffee. Loved the atmosphere as soon as we walked in - the lighting is cozy, there are plenty of tables, and a room in the back with additional seating. There's a great section of gift items (local jewelry, t-shirts, stickers, mugs, etc.) at the front that caught our eye, too. We had 1 iced coffee and 1 vanilla almond milk latte - both were good, no complaints. We didn't order any food, but all the food items we saw looked fresh & delicious - would love to try some another time. Without a doubt, we'll be visiting this Poet's location again! Popped into this spot as my family moved to Cookeville & I love checking out local coffee & tea spots. This place did not disappoint. Right in downtown Cookeville they had a great variety of coffees and tea lattes (they were out of my match that day). I love the breakfast and food options. The porridge was delicious as was the avocado toast with bacon! The sweet belly toast was a surprise and delicious. If you like sipping out of a mug they served food and drink out of "to go" cups that all are recyclable but no one received plates. May be a COVID staffing issues. But the coffee, tea lattes, and food were amazing! Chai tea latte with hot cocoa was a first and was delicious if you never tried it. They have another location "south" not far away but definitely a place to try! read more

I ordered a peppermint mocha and raspberry scone. The coffee was great and I thoroughly enjoyed the scone. They had a wide variety of syrups and the atmosphere was great. Please go here instead of Starbucks! This place was one of the first if not the first "coffee shop" in the area. A great young college vibe in the backyard of TTU, you will be pleasantly surprised with the offerings and quality here. Food wise, I have only tried the chicken salad, which was great. But the coffee drinks are really good. I've had many lattes here and they all have been great--hot and cold. They are not overly sweet and you can taste the espresso. They do not have a cold brew, but their ice coffee is pretty good. They have a cool reading/sitting room that used to be a book store years ago. Definitely, give these guys your business! read more

One of the best coffee shops I've visited in a long time - I like the whole package: retro downtown storefront, tasteful contemporary slightly under the radar music playing in the background, and of course terrific coffee beverages and a fairly comprehensive breakfast & lunch menu. If you're passing through the Cookeville area, it's worth pulling off the highway and heading into the downtown and visiting Poet's Coffee. I had a great first experience at Poet's on May 13, 2012. I was visiting Cookeville to treat my Mother to lunch and spend a day in Cookeville. I stumbled upon Poet's and really glad I did. I had the best Cappucino I have had in a long long time. The atmosphere was cozy and warm. It was an acutal coffee house experience. The guy working the counter was great and was very knowledable about coffee/brews. I live in Nashville and we have nothing like Poet's. Maybe in the future there will be a Poet's 2 in Nashville... This is one of the Hippest parts of this town. The coffee is really good and they hand make it. Slow though as others have mentioned. I think the crowd depends on when you get here. I was here wednesday @ 6 pm and this place was packed. There was a huge line. I just moved here to Cookeville, from Houston, TX and was expecting something very small. This one rivals the best coffee shops in Houston or even Dallas. Needless to say that I will be comming back here and often. As a date place....hmmm... in the history of dating, I dont think any one has ever gotten thier first kiss in a coffee shop and so I dont do coffee shops. But in a small town like Cookeville... I live in Nashville and I've never been to Cookeville. So first time at Poet's Coffee tonight obviously. I came for a show and when I heard it was at a coffee shop, I thought it would be a little weird. But I gotta support my friends so I didn't let that stop me from making the trip. To my surprise, it was actually a super cool little spot and ended up being great for a show. Great turn out. Cool people. While we were waiting for the show to start, I got a coffee and a chicken salad croissant. Both delicious! The staff was also super sweet. I first visited Poet's ten years ago when I was in high school, well before the days of iPhones and Yelp. I loved it then, and I was surprised to know Cookeville had such a tiny pocket of culture. We were back in town visiting family this weekend, and I was thrilled to see that Poet's is still thriving. In fact, much of historic downtown Cookeville is booming! Great to see. As for this indie Bohemian chic coffee shop, they offer yummy nosh, gourmet coffee/tea and an open mic night that attracted young, talented acts from the nearby university.
