I originally went to see Marisa for extreme anxiety and ongoing sleep issues, after trying what felt like every modality out there: somatic exercises, journaling, therapy, BIT, meditation, breath-work...you name it. While many of those helped in their own ways, nothing truly moved the needle for me the way hypnoacupuncture with Marisa has. From my very first session, there was an obvious shift. Even the people around me noticed. After that first session, the tension in my shoulders decreased, and the only way I can describe it is that everything (physically & mentally) felt like it had been taken down a notch. Since working with her, my sleep has completely transformed. I went from having an extremely hard time falling asleep and waking up almost every hour, to now pretty much sleeping through the night. I have EDS, craniocervical instability, dysautonomia and transverse myelitis, all of which have been an ordeal to untangle, and she's been completely brilliant in her ability to juggle both the big picture and small details simultaneously within a variety of rare issues. After burning through multiple specialists, she was actually the first person to suggest I could have Ehlers-Danlos, an unusual genetic condition. How she even knew about this is beyond me, as most EDS patients are first introduced to it by a specialist, definitely not a generalist like their PCP. She then sent me to a geneticist at BWH who confirmed her hunch. She also suspected I have Lyme when no one else did, ordered blood work from Quest and -- lo and behold -- it came back shriekingly positive while everyone else was burying their heads in the sand. She's extraordinarily adept, and I'm only scratching the surface of other rocks she's managed to look under that no other doctor thought to. Dr. Byrne has also pulled together a very skilled and compassionate front office who make booking appointments and asking questions easier than any other medical office I've ever dealt with.
