Just told me I have periodontal disease and need to spend 2000 to fix it. 6 months ago (and every 6 month appointment prior) I had a perfectly clean bill of health. I don't trust this place. Felt like a bait and switch. Bedside manner was so awful. Stay far away. I'll be getting a second opinion elsewhere. Oh and that 2000 is WITHOUT sedation. That is apparently 200 for every 15 minutes. Just run. RUN.

The actual dentist rooms are modern, large, and open facing the windows. I had a friendly dental hygienist who was engaging with me both about my dental needs and just good everyday topics. Everything progressed as I expected and I was satisfied with this part of the visit. Then after that the dentist came by to do his thing, he was also friendly and engaging. Overall I am satisfied with this first visit and plan to return. But the minus 1 star is due to the service desk staff who failed to greet me upon entering, and then forgot to followup with me on another issue after departing. I would expect that given more time the efficiency here will improve.

He has excellent communication skills, speaks in plain, easy to understand language without being patronizing and spends as much time as is warranted with the patient. Her office is state of the art and she's great about walking you through what's going on with your treatment and why. Others may not, but I appreciate this time to understand why or why not a procedure, surgery, etc... is needed. She uses digital cameras and photos to show you one tooth vs another so you become a part of the process. I definitely recommend Dr. Seay personally, she's excellent. I still live in Park West but I no longer go to this office and I'll tell you why. After a visit and a recommendation to see an oral surgeon about having a tooth removed, I did. I went to Dr. Maltezos for a consult and it was recommended that a particular tooth be removed and an implant be put in. I wasn't opposed to this, but at the time, the tooth wasn't causing a problem and I was in-between jobs with no dental insurance or extra money to pay for such an expensive procedure. I had a family friend who had been my dentist for years look over the x-rays and his suggestion was that there was no immediate problem so there was no issue with waiting. Months later, I was having some sensitivity and needed a cleaning anyway. I came in to find that Dr. Seay had taken leave (I think for a few months) so I was informed that I would be seeing a different dentist. It turns out, my dentist for the day was Dr. Maltezos wife. I told her about the sensitivity in that tooth, which had actually passed, and wasn't bothering me. She pretty much scolded me after looking at her husbands recommendation and asked me "why is this tooth still in your mouth?". Um, maybe because I wasn't ready to have a tooth permanently taken out that wasn't causing me any problems and was going to cost thousands of dollars that I didn't have... that's a start. She then belittled every response I had and just ruined my experience there. It truly felt like she was just trying to push business onto her husbands office. I never ended up going back. I went to another dentist who agreed that the best tooth to have is the one that's in your mouth. I would have stuck with that dentist, but there was an insurance issue. I've now moved on to another office and actually had a new consult for the tooth. It finally started causing a problem almost 3 years later. I ended up eventually having the tooth out, which I mentioned, was my goal eventually, but I was able to do it under my own terms and when I had my insurance back in place to help defer the cost. Part of me wanted to knock this review down lower because of how my experience took such a 180, but Dr. Seay doesn't deserve that. She really is a great dentist. The office isn't cheap, but they're not sparing a single expense when it comes to the most up to date and top of the line equipment. Park West Dentistry is a great office, but I would never see Mrs. Dr. Maltezos again.

She felt listened to & acknowledged when she said she didn't feel completely numb. Dr Tabb stopped, numbed some more, & patiently waited for the meds to take effect. I finally got proactive and got some recommendations from friends. I live in Park Circle so the idea of my dentist being two minutes away vs 30 minutes away was enticing so I called them first. It turned out that they had an opening for a new patient the next day. I booked it and got my records transferred over asap. So far I've only had the one appointment with hygienist Megan and saw Dr Peele afterwards, but both of them and the front desk staff were great. I've been going to Allen Family Dentistry for over three years now. I know, I should have reviewed…read morethem long ago. The thing is, I couldn't... why you ask? Yes, I was happy with my services to this point and haven't had any real complaints. The staff is friendly, the office is super high tech, and I've got a great rapport with Dr. Allen (Mrs). My usual hygienist Colleen does a great job, I never feel like I'm getting ripped off, and they have a cute little dog in the front office. All great stuff! The thing is, until recently, I hadn't completed any major procedure with them. I was in process for years with an implant and until it was finished, I felt like I couldn't truly evaluate my experience. It seemed like anyone can have a great experience getting a cleaning every now and then, but the real challenge is to perform an involved procedure on a patient and see how happy they are by the end. You may be wondering why it took all this time to complete the implant procedure and in full disclosure, that is one hundred percent my fault. We discussed it, agreed that it was necessary, scheduled the extraction with the oral surgeon (different office), and completed the extraction while placing the implant. After that, you wait about six months, re-visit the oral surgeon to give the final okay, and then go back to the original dentist for the cap and crown... the part people will actually see. Instead of taking six months to go back, it took me somewhere between a year and a half to two years. Not for any reason, just because I kept putting it off... shame on me. Although they were waiting on me to get clearance from the oral surgeon to finish the job, Dr. Allen and her staff never pressured me at cleanings to get it done asap and even assured me it wasn't hurting anything by not completing the procedure yet...which was appreciated. For that matter, they never guilt-tripped me for not flossing as much as I should, or pushed me into expensive/unnecessary procedures. We always discussed potential work, weighed the options, and I was given a clear breakdown of the costs. That is probably why I love this office. They are authentic with their recommendations and treatments. Now I may be overly analytical in this department but I feel like it's something I'm particularly sensitive to. Growing up, my mother worked with dental students at Tufts University and then managed dental practices for as long as I can remember. The Doctors she worked with became family friends and I always felt like a family member at my appointments. As I got older, I was definitely aware of the perks I received too like a free $200 toothbrush, bleaching trays, and insanely discounted braces. When I moved away for school, I would get private dental work done when I came home for a visit... the works. Eventually, that was no longer viable. I was out of school, working in Mt P and had to find a local practice. I've been to a few and had some experiences better than others but I have always felt like just a patient. Simply a name in the computer. I felt like my opinion wasn't of value in consultations or I wouldn't have reasons to why a procedure was necessary, just that it needed to be done. There was even a time that I was in-between jobs without dental insurance and was almost forced into an expensive procedure and practically mocked for not moving forward at the time. Luckily, I sent all my X-rays back home to be evaluated by a Doctor I trusted only to find out the procedure was not a pressing issue at all. You shouldn't feel like you're at a used car lot when you're dealing with a medical professional regarding your health (in this case, your dental health) and should never be forced into procedures you don't feel comfortable with. You should always feel free to ask questions and feel like you're getting honest answers. As a family office, Allen Family Dentistry treats their patients as they would like others to treat their family and it shows. That's why I've continued seeing Dr. Allen and confidently smile when showing off her work :)
