I sure love going out to the Point. There were a bunch of people out today, being that it was Memorial Day and the first unofficial day of "summer". Boaters were out, the fountain was on and the sun was hot. The point is a perfect spot to hang out by the fountain, people watch, go for a walk/run, ride your bike, watch the boaters out on the river, have a picnic, read a book, play frisbee, walk your dog...the list goes on. There's a large grassy area near the fountain and then another large grassy area closer to the street. There's a lot of goose poop in the grass, so be sure to bring a blanket. It's a bit of a walk from any parking area to the fountain, but you have the option of parking on the North Shore and walking over the Fort Duquesne bridge, or just finding some parking downtown. There's a public restroom and water fountain by the fountain. Even with all of the people out today, it didn't feel over crowded and everyone was respectful of other's space. We rode our bikes down from Millvale and had a little "picnic" near the fountain. The area was clean (the river still needs work) and police and park rangers were patrolling regularly. read more

Point State Park has a long history in Pittsburg. It was once home to Fort Pitt, but now serves as historical site and park. Point State Park appears to be the heart of Pittsburg. The view is nothing short of spectacular. The focal point is the fountain. The Fountain is awesome and much larger in person than it appears when photographed. The weather this past weekend was really warm, so we found ourselves looking for shade after about 40 minutes of hanging out near the fountain. Even though there is signage asking people to stay out of the fountain, we saw people dipping their feet in and also sunbathing in their swimsuits near us. If you've researched Pittsburg, you'll probably notice that this park tops the list of all tour guides including AAA and Trip Advisor. Worth a visit if your hanging in the area. There's probably no better view within the city. read more

Great park with the main focal attraction being the fountain at the end of the Point marking the end of the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) rail trail used for cycling, walking, and rollerblading. Amenities include: a large grassy area where you see people throwing various balls/frisbes or just sitting around enjoying the weather, benches along the riverfront to view the convergence of the three rivers -- the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio, restrooms with flushable toilets and running water, bike racks, the fountain already mentioned which spews water 150 feet into the air, an outdoor café to quench your thirst with a few tables, a garden with markers identifying some trees and plants. Residing here are also the Fort Pitt Museum and Blockhouse. A small sampling of the views from here include PNC baseball park, Heinz football field, The Monongahela Incline, and the Carnegie Science Center. Festivities here include the annual Three Rivers Art Festival in June (a free arts event to see visual art and hear musical artists) and the annual Pittsburgh Marathon Finish Line Festival in May. You can definitely drive and park your car along the street or in one of the nearby garages. However, we like to ride our bicycles starting from the Waterfront in Homestead and bike the approximately 10 miles to the Point along the GAP trail. Note that a wee bit is on streets/sidewalks nearing downtown but Sundays are ideal for tooling around downtown. We usually ride to the fountain then head to Market Square nearby to dine outdoors. I have been to Point State Park in Pittsburgh several times over the various years. This past visit I was pleasantly surprised that the Block House was opened and the fountain in the park was going in full force. This was the first time that I was able to actually see the fountain flowing freely and it was so gorgeous. It definitely made for a wonderful photo opportunity, especially with the river so wide in the background and the Heinz Football Stadium in all its NFL glory in the sunlight. I also was able to go into the Block House for the first time as well, which was FREE and very nice to visit. It also serves as a Gift Shop and has some literature about the history of the building including photographs and history about the park and Fort. I was able to get some wonderful photos of my daughter, Noel and her boyfriend, Adam, plus sneak a few of my hubby in the background without him noticing. The flowers in the park were very lovely so of course I had to take a few snapshots of them as well. Just a little north of the fountain, in the grass or yard area, there is an outline of the original Fort Pitt in the cement stone. In the center of the Fort outline is a seal incased in stone as well. My daughter and Adam was walking over it before they realized what it actually was. I stepped to the side and could tell it was the Fort outline based on the four points that jetted out in each corner. This was a nice treat but there should have been some signage so people could realize what they are walking over and around. History buffs like myself, tend to notice things like this but others who are interested or could be interested might and probably do...they just pass right over it. Another great thing about this park...it is FREE !!! There is a nice river walk area paved along the river with benches for resting. This is a great location to enjoy the river and the scenery on the opposite banks. It allows great views of the incline on the other side of the river. I will definitely visit this park againe when I am in the area. I highly recommend anyone living in the area or visiting Pittsburgh to visit the park..a great location and a great time to be had by all. There is also a museum on site. It cost $7 per adult to visit the museum and see all the historical photos and read all the information about the area and Fort Pitt that once stood on this location. There is also a gift shop and bathrooms in the museum building. The ONLY NEGATIVE thing that I can comment on this lovely park, it has NO FREE PARKING available. You are at the mercy of paid parking either at a lot close by or a meter. If you ride the subway, there is a subway stop close by within walking distance for your convenience. I highly recommend going to this park, but again it is my personal opinion that is worth the visit. I am definitely going again when I in the vicinity. read more

Gorgeous gorgeous views and nice paths to run/walk throughout. I was a little sad the fountain wasn't on while I was there - the river had flooded and silt had mucked up the fountain's workings. However, this park is amazingly well maintained, safe and clean. It was a nice surprise to happen upon historic Fort Pitt. I only regret I didn't have time to go through the museum. All in all, Pittsburgh is a city of surprises and the gardens/trails/parks are a big part of what is so surprising. read more

Our hotel was across the street so we wondered down. This is a great space to ride a bike, run, or just sit with your coffee and watch the river. They have a beautiful fountain and reflection pond. While we were there, there was a large sand sculpture. There are clean restrooms and there was also a vendor selling popcorn, slushies and other things that make ppl happy. A little jealous of this park and that is saying a lot because my city is pretty good at the park game. read more

This park did not disappoint. Large with many trails. I came on a Sunday during a Steelers game so it was pretty than busy but cool. Everyone was very friendly and lighthearted. I'd suggest anyone visiting Pittsburgh to check this park out, there's a lot to see. read more

Point State Park is an incredible lush green space that has a lot of interesting historical landmarks or stunning visual eye candy to keep you occupied for quite some time. I was quite surprised on how large the park is and how much you can see from all different angles. It's a fairly easy walk from the downtown core and the walking paths are pristine and wide. You can step back in time when you step into the Fort Pitt blockhouse and get a sense of what soldiers must have felt ages ago. Lots of beautiful Instagramable shots here ... especially with the Daughters of the American Revolution gate with the huge American flag in the back. The park also has had the 3 rivers all at one spot and you get a feel for how big the rivers truly are. We were here after the rain and you can definitely see them reaching towards the top of the concrete river edge. You also have great views of the Duquesne Incline, the Science Museum, lots of bridges, Stadiums, and the skyline with PPG building just dominating the view. I loved how you can also trace the outline of the old outer wall.. they laid stone down into the ground to show where it once stood. Just a warning ... the green space is like a big wet soaked sponge after a downpour. It may look dry .... buuut no. It's just a big puddle pretending to be grass. Lastly, the Point State Park fountain is impressive. Beautiful and large, it's the perfect backdrop for a selfie or enjoy the cool mist on a hot summer day. We saw many people just sit on the ledge enjoying the sun ... including a few people forgot their sunblock and their shirt. I guess Pittsburgh citizens doesn't mind being a little ... ok a lot red. Great city park and one of the more impressive ones ... definitely recommend to check it out to either admire the views or just sit and relax. Just remember the sunblock! read more

I'd seen this park from other spots in Pittsburgh before, and it's nice to see from a distance, but it was really nice to visit the park itself recently. The fountain is huge and very photogenic, and there are great views of the city from this park in all directions. You can see a lot of the bridges, Heinz Field, the incline... great spot for sightseeing. I also saw some folks putting their feet in the water, which gave me a nice community feel. There were a bunch of people walking around, but it didn't feel crowded. It was hard to find street parking because it was a really nice day out, but we were able to find a paid public parking lot pretty close by. read more

I stayed at the Wdym hotel across the street it's really nice with a large open lawn where they gave conservative with a great view of the river and city. The main attraction is the huge fountain at the point of the park. If your in town it's interesting to stop walk around and read the history of the park. read more

I realized I was whining about the fountain not being up and running in my 2011 review and it is ABOUT TIME to update! The fountain reigns again... Although with intermittent issues. But that's par for the course of anything that's running on massive powers lines and gets flooded every couple months. The park is just gorgeous though, and they've done such a good job since the remodel of keeping it that way. I love the big open paths to walk or bike in. There's plenty of seating to enjoy the nice weather, whether it be at the fountain itself or around the park in general. Plus, there's public restrooms and porta-potties brought in for big events. One thing I do miss is having concerts closer to fountain on the other side of the tunnel. I heard they wanted to not have that part trampled as much, but that may be just a rumor. It's still just a nice perk to have outdoor concerts in that park at all! I love attending the festivals down here, but of course most of all, the Three Rivers Arts Festival. We truly are lucky to have such a beautiful park be the crowning jewel of our three rivers! read more

This place brought me pure happiness. A fountain, a view, and a piece of history. All things that comprise of a 5 star review. I visited with my friend John where we strolled down the waterfront to Point State Park. We were talking about how much he would love to bring his boyfriend here since it was so romantic and laughing about our good times over the last 10 years of our friendship starting in college. Visiting this park was the highlight of the visit offering a spectacular view of the entire city of Pittsburgh where we could look in all directions with the city above us. The 'Point' is the location where all 3 rivers connect in Pittsburgh - The Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio. This was a perfect place to establish a fort for defense. Both the French and the British occupied this space just for that purpose. When we were down here, there were tons of people getting engagement photos taken. We saw at least 5 couples all of whom were getting their photos taken by the big fountain with all different perspectives. This is a solid spot for all instagram/snapchat/facebook picture narcissists. Do yourself a favor and please check this place out when you are in town or if you are a local - soak it up and appreciate it for what it is. read more

In a busy city like Pittsburgh, it's refreshing to have a wide open green area to get away from the chaos of downtown. There aren't a whole lot of features here, but there are great views of the bridges and Fort Pitt Blockhouse, as well as several paths to take. Kay, myself, and a few of our friends visited The Point to watch the Regatta races (snooze) and to catch the city's annual July 4th fireworks display. I hadn't done any of those things in roughly 20 years. Built in 1974, it's hard to believe that the park is nearly as young as I am. And as another reviewer mentioned, it really does feel like an oasis. For a time in my early 20's, I purposely cut through the park en route to my job at the long-gone Kaufmann's Warehouse on the then underdeveloped North Shore for this reason alone. Its greenery is comforting. It's spacious enough without being overwhelming. One can stroll along the river with a loved one, holding hands as the cool wind soothes and dries hot, sweaty skin. When the Regatta is in full effect, Point State Park becomes a vibrant backyard party, and there's no better spot to witness Independence Day pyrotechnics, the rainbow blasts illuminating the air, trees, and water. Other than its historical gravitas (The Fort Pitt Museum stands here as well as The Blockhouse, Western Pennsylvania's oldest building), and that spectacular fountain, there's not all that much to Point State Park, and I feel that's what makes it special when an event isn't underway of course. Come to think of it, some pretty gnarly concerts could be held at the park (NY's Central Park has 'em), but that might ruin it. No, PSP is at its best when no large gatherings are occurring, when there is no breeze, the sun is sparkling, and the grass is tickling your ankles. That being written, I should spend more time at PSP than I do, especially with a certain female in my life. Wonderful public park in an historic location at the confluence of the Mon, Allegheny, and Ohio rivers. The centerpiece of the park is the well known fountain, plus the remains of Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne. There's the old Fort Pitt Blockhouse from 1764, which is the oldest remaining building in Western Pennsylvania. The park is the site of the Venture Outdoors Festival, a free celebration each year of outdoor activities, as well as the Three Rivers Arts Festival and the Three Rivers Regatta. It's a welcome break from downtown, and a chance to walk around, view the boats and the rivers and relax. Definitely bring a frisbee. Near the fountain is a marker that indicates the end of a 350 recreational trail that begins in Washington, D.C. read more

What can I say that has not already been said, this park is open remodeled home to the most awesome fountain in the city. Lots of events happen yearly here, its where the Pittsburgh marathon ends, home to the arts fest. It is easily accessible by foot, bicycle, car, stork, kayak and train. Ok maybe not train. It has great views of the North shore and Mount Washington. Bladee Blah none of that even matters because right now there is a huge rubber ducky down there. As part of a visiting art exhibit, he is wise he is awesome, he is the star of Point State Park and he won't be there long. Oh he has only been here a few nights but Imagine everything he gets to see! Ask him anything.... will the pirates keep winning? Will the Steelers ever start to win again? Did that swerving speed boat get out of the way before that coal barge hit it? How many kayaks peppered the river today? Go ahead make his day. During a recent weekend, I was drawn to Point State Park for the same reason as the hordes of tourists who found themselves here - the four-story tall Rubber Duck art installation. The duck was such as important item on our itinerary that we came here on two consecutive days, first day shortly after landing and the next night after a dinner downtown. If you are arriving the park the first time by car like me, I would strongly suggest you find parking a few blocks away and then walk over. That's because a wrong turn could easily take you across either of the two rivers (which actually happened to me). The park was quite clean and well-kept; it seemed recently renovated. You get gorgeous river views as well as views of Mt. Washington on the South Side and Heinz Stadium on the North Side. The fountain was just as lively as advertised. Maybe it was the extra security that was in placed with the Rubber Duck in town, but visiting the park after 10 pm felt surprisingly safe. Families and couples were still flocking there after dark. read more

Who doesn't enjoy strolling through Point State Park during the summer, just to enjoy the breeze and fountain? I definitely enjoy doing that, and I love this part of the city. Over the last few years I've developed a new appreciation for Point State Park. It wasn't that I didn't enjoy visiting it before; even as a kid I remember enjoying the various concerts and art shows and festivals that took place around this location. The new appreciation, however, has come about as I've matured and begun to feel more pride for my city than I did when I was younger. That, and having somewhere so enjoyable near my work location and downtown is a huge plus during the summer! I really like that Point State Park offers a great place to take a break from busy downtown. The greenery and outdoorsy feel it offers is quite relaxing, even though it's super close to the downtown area. Over the last few years it's also gotten a lot of TLC that's improved the aesthetic landscape and made the area more accessible. The work on their trails and additional seats were particularly helpful, because just like the downtown area Point State Park can get pretty hopping at times, especially during the summer arts festival. Gallery Crawls will also attract large crowds since people kind of shuffle back and forth between Point State Park and the cultural district during the event. The Fort Pitt Museum and The Blockhouse - both significant parts of Pittsburgh's history - are located in this area as well, and I know sometimes the events based out of these spots can bring in big crowds, too. You can probably tell reading this that the biggest reason to visit Point State Park for locals is to catch an on-site event of some sort. It's admittedly not the place I go to just enjoy a park (Schenley and North Park are my go-to's for that), but it is still a gorgeous place that I enjoy being in, even if I'm just strolling through. And while I don't hang out here as often during the fall and winter, the gorgeous foliage and eventual holiday decorations you can see here are also worth the look. All in all I think this spot is a very beautiful area that has a lot to offer to people who appreciate its atmosphere. And I certainly know what I appreciate the most: the fact that just looking at Point State Park and the Point Park Fountain makes me think, "I'm in Pittsburgh, and it's good to be here!" read more

After dinner at Butcher and the Rye, it was a lovely and quick 5 minute walk to Point State Park to check out the sites here. Unfortunately in the dark, you really can't make out the remnants of the French fort that was once there, and is outlined in the ground, but it was still lovely to enjoy the breeze coming off the river and see the kids running around. When I visited in Sept 2016, there was an interesting art piece in the park - these 6,514 storks, each representing a baby that had not been aborted #mixed feelings. One feature of the park I particularly liked was how the highway overpass over the park was turned underneath into this amazing reflecting pools with these halogen light bulbs that created beautiful, magical mood lighting under the bridge. It's a pretty safe park - lots of folks around and there was a police car driving around as a deterrent, so definitely check it out! Note: #343 of Yelp 100 challenge for 2016 read more

I decided to walk around Point State Park for lunch and it was a lovely day in Pittsburgh. This park is always full of walkers, joggers, bikers, exercisers, etc. It's lively with music, kids, and animals. The fountain is magnificant as the centerpiece of Pittsburgh! Just glorious. Of course it was slightly depressing, cold and quiet on my recent winter visit, but I could see all of its potential, and the view year round is pretty great from what I could see! Beautiful view to see where all three rivers meet in Pittsburgh. There was a parking lot for about $15, but we only wanted to be there for about 30 minutes so we opted for downtown street parking which will run you about $4.00 an hour (I thought LA was bad...). You also have a nice view of the two inclines, the bridges, and the Heinz stadium. I suggest stopping by this park for the endless views you receive. read more

Beautiful views of the water! I stopped here with my girlfriend on our first trip to Pittsburgh, and it's a great place to relax and meditate. Not too busy, and be sure to walk through the few small paths in the area to check out the plants. The spray of the fountain automatically adjusts its height based on the wind, and on a perfect day, can reach up to 150 feet! read more

This is a great distraction from the hustle and bustle of city life. Also it is just enough of wilderness to indulge in, but close enough to get back to your life if you need to run back to it. It's awesome to be able to just sit along the waterfront and read a book, or even just to stare off into space as the hours run away from you. There are a ton of things you can do when you are down here. Go to a museum, check out the Block House, run the trails, ride a bike, eat at a cafe, lay on the lawn in the sun...the possibilities are endless here. And with the fountain's renovation complete, who could resist being hit by that mist as you bask in the sun? Every time I am in the downtown area, I attempt to make it over here, even if it is to stand at the underpass and throw coins in the pond. It's quite relaxing and this park has some of the best views of the city. How appropriate is it that I start out my Yelp Challenge with one of Pittsburgh's outdoor venue (zoo) and end it with another outdoor venue, and one as amazing as this place. read more

I love this park. It's been recently renovated, and it's beautiful, the fountain is in full operation. They've added some plaques about the history of it all down by the point. My favorite parts of this park are where you can see the original outlines of Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne in the form of lit sidewalks. You can see what I'm talking about in my google earth picture. Fort Pitt is the larger of the two, and at one end has the Ft Pitt Museum. And then between the two, you'll see the Ft Pitt Blockhouse which was built in 1764, and is the oldest extant structure in Western Pennsylvania, and apparently the oldest structure west of the Allegheny Mountains. ENOUGH WITH THE HISTORY LESSON. Besides the fact that most of the festivals and concerts that take place here are awesome, with a great view, it is also one of my favorite places to come with my dog and sit and relax or people watch. There is almost always a park ranger there since it is a state park, which makes it feel a little safer. I've been there at night and I've never felt uncomfortable. read more

The place where 3 rivers meet, is super neat! Something about an open space with water sprouting out of the ground, really relaxes you. Coupled with constant breezes, and you've found yourself a nice spot to cool down from a hot day. Personally, I'd recommend having a picnic here. Visiting Pittsburgh? This is a must! This park is big enough to not ever feel really crowded and provides some of the best views of the city and our 3 rivers (since it's the point where they all meet!). With views of Mount Washington, the North Shore, and Downtown, every tourist will love getting their picture in front of the fountain or with the skyline backdrop. Another great thing about the park is it's accessibility. You can walk or bike across on the pedestrian part of Fort Pitt Bridge or the bridge from the North Shore, and easily walk from any point downtown. The Stanwix Street T-Stop is very close, so public transportation makes total sense when visiting downtown. I also just learned there is an accessible kayak launch ramp just down a ways from the point on the Allegheny River side. I'm not sure how one get's their kayak that far, but it can certainly be an asset for people who want to kayak from that side of the river. read more
