Poise Pilates was amazing I tried the TRX class that I thought would be a breeze but boy I was in for a treat!! We did a little bit of everything utilizing the TRX bands we targeted arms, abs and glutes. I loved that the instructor gave alternatives according to each fitness level so you could really elevate your workout the way you want! The facilities are aesthetically pleasing very clean. So I thought that by being a runner and taking spinning classes regularly I would not struggle at poise barre but boy was I wrong. My intro class experience was tough! The instructor was really good at pointing out areas of improvement during the class and guiding everyone in the room (about 10 of us, all women that morning). There was more dance style technique than I expected, however the slow focused movements really helped to target specific muscles which was great. I felt like I got a good workout in and would definitely continue taking classes here. read more

I was able to try this place thanks to ClassPass and I was not really sure what to expect. I have been working out and my workouts are kinda intense (think Shaun T's Insanity) but I'm new to TRX and I thought I might as well try something new. If Insanity was intense and leaves me sore for 2 days, the Poise TRX FIIT class was more intense and left me sore for 4 days. I'd say it's definitely worth it! You don't need to bring anything. They provide all equipment including the mat. What I like best is how the class is small enough that the instructor knows everybody and will really help you with your form. Since I'm new to TRX, she even adjusted the cord length for me when needed. Everyone seemed friendly, too. Definitely a place I would enjoy going back to! read more

What a WONDERFUL Pilates/Barre Studio! I dropped in for a reformer pilates class. I'm in town once every month or every other month and was looking for a place that I can continue to practice while in town. Morgan was the instructor and she KICKED MY BUTT (and Abs, lol)! So of course I signed up for an 8am Sunday class and I'm so glad I did! April was an amazing instructor. Bakersfield definitely needed this! I was a dancer for 11 years and always loved how ballet (and specifically barre) made me feel. It is such an incredible workout for sculpting/toning muscles without getting bulky. When I heard that this Barre and Pilates studio was coming to town I couldn't wait to sign up for classes! I have been taking Barre weekly since they first opened classes in May. I have noticed an incredible difference in my body. I had really lacked motivation to begin a regular workout routine. Now that I have been taking barre, I have started working out regularly at the gym as well. This was definitely the motivation I needed. The instructors are great. Christine and Anne Marie teach the Barre classes. I've taken from both ladies. They are awesome! They definitely know how to keep you motivated. The barre classes are small (6-8 people) so it really lets the instructor focus to help you with proper form. I have yet to take the reformer class. I'd like to start with a private session then maybe begin classes. I've watched the instructors, Callie and Christine, and they are so great with clients. Can't wait to try out the class! It is always intimidating starting out at a new studio with classes, but everyone really makes you feel welcome! So go ahead and try this place out! This studio is fabulous. I live on the central coast but come to Bakersfield often to visit family and I always make time to do a private session with Kim!!! I've been doing pilates for over 10 years now and she always seems to teach me something new and take me to the next level of strength. She is one of the best!!! Living in Los Angeles for nursing school I became addicted to BarWorks and was so sad that I thought moving to Bakersfield meant giving barre up! I found this studio and it's amazing - better than anything I've come across in LA. The studio is clean, bright, well air-conditioned (trust me, it's huge), and clearly taken care of. April's barre class is fabulous! I left feeling the burn for sure and I'll be back again and again! I would give 0 starts. Came to this class using Class Pass App on a Monday at 9:45 for the Poise FIIT CLASS; the instructor of the class said that she didn't it see my name on her list. I even showed her my reservation. Then she said that they don't take class pass and wanted to charge me an additional $40 and then said it would be too difficult and would take too much time to sign me in and that it's required to take 3 beginner classes at "their" studio to be able to do one of their regular classes in front of the other students!!!?? Seriously.??!! I've taken Pilates classes before. Wow very bad business and way to just let a potential new member just not want to come back ever. She was not helpful and pretty much was telling me too bad. There were only 4 people signed up for her class and she could have easily fit me in but wasn't willing to work with me. I don't leave reviews but wow, I've never experienced such horrible customer service. Usually Fitness instructors are more willing to help and get more members in. She was quite rude and seemed very privileged and sorry from looks and sound of her, she does not resemble any kind of fitness instructor. I will probably never come back sadly. I am avidly active and recently I have found a new passion for my workout routine with the barre class that Poise Pilates+Barre offers! While the routines are rigorous, the instructor, Christine, does a fantastic job of not only modeling each step but will physically adjust and correct your body's form. I love the intensity and challenge of barre and how the class moves quickly to upbeat music. Furthermore, I am surprised by how many body muscles are activated by this class. The ambiance of PPB makes classes much more enjoyable. The over-sized windows gives a sense of openness and I like the modernness of the studio. I have also noticed how passionate the other instructor, Callie, is with her clients on the reformer. I have yet to take a reformer class but she seems to be in the greatest interest of her clients. She always looks super cute in her workout attire, which is always inspiring! I am looking forward to barre reshaping and lengthening my body! read more

I have to give 3 starts because of the lack of customer service. I went in for a class and was good with it. I wasn't to thrilled with the pricing considering that I come from San Diego and LA where prices are half the cost of these classes.However, because I personally love pilates and Liza did a great job teaching, so, I bit the bullet and purchased a package. On my second class, I came down with the nasty cold the morning of my class, and instead of going and infecting everyone, I cancelled hoping that the owner would be understanding and that she would prefer to credit me a class rather than risk getting other patrons sick. Well, I was wrong. I lost the class. It is quite disappointing. So, I have classes left over that I must use. Just know that if you are sick, the owner will not care if you get others sick and you will lose your class. it's too bad. read more

This is really the only proper barre studio near the east side that I could find when I was visiting from Seattle last weekend. From what I remember, this was a cute little wedding dress place years ago and now it's a super cute barre & pilates studio. There is plenty of street parking for morning classes and you really can't miss the square metal building on the corner. The pilates part was located on the first level and barre classes were upstairs, along with pretty chandeliers. There is a cubby for belongings, a water station and bathroom upstairs, too. All equipment was provided for classes, but you do need to bring sticky socks due to the wood floor. I took 3 barre classes while in town (1st one was free!), my first being with Meghan, who was kick-butt and awesome! Just during the warm-up I was sweating and at the end of class I was pretty sore. I liked how she had quite a bit of cardio rolled in with the barre portions. My 2nd class was with Christine, the co-owner of the studio, who was pretty tough on us, too and I felt great after class. My last one was instructed by Andrea and she was very fun and really helped make sure you held the correct form during each move. I really enjoyed coming to this studio and it helped me not lose momentum being away from my usual barre regimen. I did have an unfortunate moment during one of my visits because I was sort of ignored and looked up and down. Not sure if it was because I was not the usual clientele that I assume takes classes here (I'm in my 20s and heavily tattooed). No one should judge a book by its cover. After that little instance though, it was all gravy. I really do like what they offer and I've told my friends in Bakersfield to definitely give them a try, especially if they've never done barre. I love taking group classes. I took a barre class with Jessie she is very nice and helpful make sure you bring a yoga socks because I was slipping and sliding with my regular sock but Jessie says I can be on flat feet for now. I never thought that barre was for me until I tried it two months ago. Since then I've been hooked, going once or twice a week to supplement my lifting and cardio. I primarily go for the lower body portion (if you thought leg day at the gym was tough, leg day here makes you feel like a baby giraffe!). The instructors are great and make an effort to know your name and correct your posture during class to maximize your workout. I'd definitely recommend a visit to the studio. Take a water bottle with you, a towel if you sweat crazy, and a gal pal to enjoy the fun!! read more

I live in Santa Monica where there is a pilates studio on every corner, and I've never seen one as cute (and clean) as this one. They even have chandeliers. I did not used to have a regular workout routine but during my 2nd year in PA school I discovered Pure Barre. I was sad when I was preparing to move back home because I didn't know if I would find a replacement for Pure Barre. That's when I found Poise Pilates Barre. I absolutely loved the barre classes there and maybe even more than I had loved Pure Barre because of how small the classes were. I have been doing barre for about 2 years and I have been doing reformer classes for about a year now. I like mixing up who I take the classes from because you get something different out of each one and I always feel engaged in each class. I think they've made a huge difference in my overall wellbeing, haven't a lost weight but I feel healthier. I participate in barre at Poise Pilates + Barre. It is unlike any workout I've ever done. I love to try various workouts, but generally dislike classes until barre! I absolutely love it and the way my body responds to the techniques. The results are there. I love the small class size. I do not have any dance/ballet experience, but can still find success with this workout. Give it a try! read more

I just knocked out my second private reformer session after being pretty inactive for a few years. I've done Pilates mat classes in the past, but working in the reformer is so much better! My first lesson was with Christine, she was very informative and helpful, and I was sore for a few days afterwards (which I loved, because it meant it was an effective exercise.)! It wakes up muscles that you don't engage as much in normal day to day activity. My second private was with Bettina, who is apprenticing before becoming a certified instructor. She was very sweet and took her time to observe my movements and positions to make sure I was doing everything properly and getting an effective workout. I'm new to the studio - and loving every minute! The atmosphere is excellent - great natural lighting, beautiful floors and fixtures - it feels like luxury to work out there! The instructors are cheerful and kind and the small class size is such a treat - a real change from the large gym environment. Since you must reserve your spot for each class, it keep you accountable for showing up for your workout and you don't have to rush to make sure you get in, your spot is assured. I love going to PP+B! Christine and Callie are so nice, encouraging, and very passionate about teaching. I've been coming here for a while now and I always look forward to coming to class. I've taken both barre and the pilates mat classes--I love them! I like to alternate between the two because the workouts are so different, yet highly effective. The first barre class is usually the hardest, but as you keep attending, you'll get a lot stronger. Same goes for pilates mat. My body used to shake like crazy, but not anymore! Where do I even begin, I have been coming to Poise Pilates and Barre since Christine and Callie first opened their doors in 2012 and I have to say, two years later I am still in love. The studio is so nice and clean, and the girls are so friendly and welcoming. Barre is such an amazing workout and it's fun to take the classes with different instructors because each one incorporates her own style into the class and you never feel like you are getting the same workout over and over again. With that being said, you also can get a feel for which instructor style better fits you. I constantly rave to people how amazing this place is. The barre classes are small (fits up to 8 people per class) which is perfect because this allows the instructors to focus on each barre client's form to maximize his or her workout. I am an old lady that take Pilates. It has changed my life. Before I suffered with low back pain. Now it is gone. I have two torn rotators and I am careful as are the instructors but I can do a Pilates plank most of the time. The best part, my jeans are getting to big. I love Poise Pilates.
