We moved into our condo in 2021 and had replaced the old and rotting planks with composite soon…read moreafter we moved in; however, we were most interested in revitalizing the roof deck altogether - the railing and posts were rotted and had peeling paint, and we had minimal privacy when hosting friends and family. After speaking with several contractors, we were fortunate enough to find Leo, who gave the roof deck a complete facelift! We initially hired Leo to update the siding of our top deck and replace the door leading to the bottom deck. During our first consultation meeting with him, he had brainstormed many design concepts and ideas we had not even thought of that we ultimately went with - we highly appreciated the creativity and effort to make our image a reality. He was incredibly communicative, and we really felt like we were working as a team. We ended up having him replace the railing of our upper deck and added a privacy wall with a beautiful design. He handcrafted the railing and involved us in every step of the design process. He also replaced rotting wood that was exposed beneath the siding, fixed a broken outlet, and completely replaced a rotting window frame. He also put in place LED light strips beneath the railing to create a sense of ambience we didn't even realize we were looking for! Leo was always very transparent with the timing of each phase of this project as well as any associated costs. Leo went above and beyond and returned twice after our final payment to add some minor touch ups to ensure the deck was as picture-perfect as can be! We have many upcoming projects in our new home and hope to work with Leo on all of them. We have already begun brainstorming together what we can do with our bottom deck. We would recommend Leo a thousand times over and are looking forward to collaborating with him again!

Working with Masonworks has been a roller coaster. They are very, very good at the masonry aspect,…read morebut we had a negative experience with everything outside of the excellent stone walls and patio they built for us. They have built beautiful flat stone walls for us in our front and back yards. We were very impressed with them after the first job they did for us in our front yard a few years ago, so we did not even look at other companies when we wanted to spruce up our backyard this year. The garden walls they built in the backyard were once again beautiful. However, as a gardener, I was disappointed and frustrated by the following things: - Our contract included 50/50 loam compost for the new garden beds. During the job, we caught them filling the beds with the grass they had pulled up from our old lawn and asked them to stop doing that. - When I went to start planting, I found that the garden beds had only a layer of new soil but that my shovel quickly hit a lot of big rocks and uncovered old soil, debris, and trash. - They completely trampled and destroyed my established perennial garden, which was located in a garden bed above where the new beds were built. They also broke several pavers in a little garden path I had and removed them without replacing them. - They recommended microclover for my lawn and seeded it for us as part of the contract, but it grew in quite spotty despite us maintaining it properly with daily waterings. I contacted them about the first issue and their initial response was to tell me that the stones I was finding were part of the wall construction - this was not the case. They had someone come out to take a look and concluded that the soil did need to be replaced, which they finally did. It is much better now, though I still have found some large stones in it. However, in the process of solving that issue, they caused the second one - many of the perennials that my mother and I had worked to plant over the past four years were totally destroyed. They offered me a credit to compensate for the loss, or the option to have them reinstall new flowers, but by that point I just didn't want them near my garden anymore so accepted the credit. I didn't bother contacting them about the spotty lawn - I threw down some grass seeds yesterday to try and fill in the gaps. While I appreciated that they did eventually take steps to resolve the issues, I found it quite frustrating to have to keep reaching out just to get them to do what they really should have done in the first place. They never did a final walkthrough as I've seen other contractors do. No apology for destroying my garden. They have a Benjamin Franklin quote, "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten" - I definitely felt some of that bitterness throughout this process. My conclusion is that they are really excellent masons but do not understand or respect gardens. If you hire them, be prepared to have to deal with that.

They also adjusted on the fly and we able to make a custom solution for us with beautiful wood railings with aluminum balusters. We've gotten multiple compliments from friends how sharp it looks. Riccardo and his team were out in the freezing temps finishing the railings. Everything came out great; communications were smooth throughout; and cleanup was perfect. We hired Crystal Painting to repaint the exterior of our 1929 Dutch Colonial. We hired Leo and his crew from Crystal based on reading other reviews on various sites, meeting him in person (many firms just look at your house online and provide a quote or do a quick stop and go without talking to you), and based on his willingness to give us a quote that included both the painting and carpentry work (most other painters were unwilling to quote the carpentry until they were on the job). The pricing quote was a bit higher than other quotes but based on the reviews we read and the quality of the conversations, we decided to take a chance on Leo and Crystal painting and weren't disappointed. Leo's crew showed up daily (in varying numbers depending on what needed to be done) over a two week period, did a good job of prepping the house, getting it primed, fixing the carpentry and applying two coats of paint. Some of the carpentry involved replacing rotted moldings along the roof line that likely had been on the house since it was built in 1929, amazingly he was able to find matching pieces to replace the damaged pieces. In addition, there were several color and other changes made along the way and Leo was great at accommodating those at no additional cost. Overall, we were very happy with Leo and Crystal painting and would hire them again. Several of our neighbors who saw their work, have since hired them as well.
