Poke Time is what Christopher Columbus is to America or what Abel Janszoon Tasman is to New Zealand. A trailblazer for poke in New Zealand, Poke Time gets high marks for it's delicious marinated fish, fresh veggies and huge selection of sauces.
What's poke?? It's marinated or seasoned raw fish usually served with rice or salad. It originated from the Hawaiian islands and is heavily influenced by Japanese cuisines incorporating soy and wasabi.
Like other poke shops around the world, Poke Time allows you to customize your bowl.
STEP 1: Choose your bowl: small $8.90 (1 scoop of protein), medium $11.90 (2 scoops) or large bowl $14.90 (3 scoops)
STEP 2: Choose your rice: white, brown or black rice.
STEP 3: Choose your protein. There's all different types of seasoned salmon, tuna, kingfish.. they even have crab and octopus or tofu. A small bowl will only get you one scoop or 2 scoops if you got a medium and so on...
STEP 4: Choose your toppings and sauces like avocado, seawood, corn, pineapple, etc..
I've been to Poke Time twice, always ordering a large bowl, and I'm slightly disappointed in how small the scoops are compared to what I would get in Hawaii or California. I sometimes even mistake pineapple chunks for salmon or tuna haha. Other than my small selfish gripe, Poke Time is a proper poke bowl restaurant with delicious fish, fresh ingredients and lovely staff.
If you want a change from all the sushi joints in the city, swing by Poke Time and give it a try. Oh! And get the black rice.. soooo good! read more
