There is a huge bar with tables ringed around it. We had a nice view of the lake. Service was very slow. Waited an eternity for the waitress to show up, order and even pay. That is ding of one star. My Sunrise Burger, cooked pink with a fried egg was superb, absolute perfection. Really good. So were the crunchy fries. Five stars. There are many yummy menu items I would like to try on future trips. Prices are reasonable. So the food is great, interior great, huge dock for boat access and a big parking lot. I will be back.

We just spent 4 days here. We rented a pontoon for the day for $120 plus gas. We stayed in cabin #4. It had air conditioning, stove, refrigerator with a freezer, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. Everything is in good working condition and clean! It is not a 4 star hotel but we were not expecting that. Each cabin has a gas grill and fire pit. You can buy firewood, ice and bait. The resort is on Lake Wabedo, which is a good sized lake. We saw eagles, deer and loons. We loved hearing the loons call each other . Maggie and Jerry were excellent hosts and take very good care of you.

A last minute phone call to a very accommodating owner made for a happy night with a warm shower, hot meal, cold beer and soft bed possible. The cabins are right off the trail so super convenient. They are clean, well stocked, and very comfortable. Access to the lake is as good as it gets! We would definitely stay here again.

The dead bugs between screens and windows need cleaning out. Pillows and linens need replacing. Not dirty just worn out. The notes everywhere are tacky. A folder welcoming you with cabin rules and whatnot would be better. The main house and across from it look like hoarding homes. The octagon is closed to visitors. We only saw the property owner the day we arrived. No welcome to Shire in the Woods. It was "ya got a credit card?" There is so much potential for this place. Loved all the chickens and turkeys walking around. The horses were covered in flies and seemed miserable. The smell was pungent but it was pretty warm. Ticks were bad. We all got ticks even with spray. Would I go back? I would love to if they'd put some TLC back into the places. The pictures on their website are so old. The cost was reasonable for what was provided. Again, it wasn't horrible but it could use some love from the owners.

It's normally fully booked so was happy I claimed a cabin kind of last minute. The experience definitely had pros and cons. I stayed in the Meadows. This is a studio, with a daybed in the main room.(description says King size. It's so not.) Since I was by myself, that was fine. There's a small kitchen with microwave, toaster over, mini fridge and cook top. Also a very small bathroom. (Shower is 2x3, I'm pretty sure. Showering is nearly impossible.) What I loved, that might bring me back: The grounds. I loved stepping out of my cabin and just wandering the trails. One day I was out for an hour without even realizing it had been that long! The woods are beautiful and the trails are pretty easy to follow. I also loved the peace and quiet and "away-ness" of it all. There is enough space between the cabins that you can feel alone but not completely isolated. Sitting in the small cabin with the sun streaming in and reading and jounaling was great. So - location and surroundings - great! What I didn't love: the condition of the cabin. I wasn't expecting luxury, nor did I want it. But everything felt so dirty. The dish towels, the oven mitts, the throw pillows.. all need to be thrown out. They're gross, stained, ripped. The bed and the pillows are also kind of gross and generally uncomfortable. In hindsight, I should have washed dishes before I used them. I love that other reviewers mentioned the notes EVERYWHERE! For a place where you're meant to go to unwind, there are so many admonitions! So it's a tough call. Will I be back? I love the grounds but felt uncomfortable in the cabin. I was there in winter/early spring so didn't have an issue with bugs or smell from the horses, but others have mentioned that. Just not sure.

Rude staff that took no responsibility for the many things that went wrong during our week stay. My family and I rented 3 cabins 10 months in advance with Lakeside views. However, one of the cabins rented was tore down last fall. So instead of a 2 bedroom on the lake they gave us a one bedroom furthest from the Lake. So we were no longer all together. No apology, and no discount on the cabin. The owner(Tammy), just said, "it's not my fault." She tried to blame it on the fact that they are waiting for "State" to come out and approve the new cabin being built in its place. The new cabin wasn't even finished and we all had to listen to saws and construction the entire week. Basically it was just a huge lie. Day 2, our plumbing in Oak and Balsam was backing up into the sinks. We informed staff of the situation and it took several hours before someone came to take a look at it. Turns out the plumbing has been an issue for several weeks and they had to get an excavator in to fix a busted pipe. We went without sewer and water for 1.5 days. Once again we were given no apology. When asked if we would get a discount Tammy's response was, "No, it's not my fault this happened." The cabins were filthy. Floors were not even cleaned. Mouse poop in the bathtub, cobwebs everywhere, doors don't shut, windows do not stay open and soooooo many dead bugs everywhere. Cabin Little Moose was infested with ants. For a whole week's stay we were given one roll of toilet paper per bathroom, and 2 trash bags. Everyday I had to go down to the office to get more toilet paper and trash bags. Not to mention there is no one in the office to help you ever. You have to search to grounds to find them. We were told to place our trash outside the cabin and staff will pick it up during the day. So as you would assume I woke up several mornings with trash everywhere from the animals and rodents getting into it. A barrel would probably be appropriate to prevent this from happening. On our last day Tammy came over to our cabin and told us our boat was in the wrong spot and made us move it for someone else. The boat was in the same spot all week and it was in a spot they assigned to us the first day. When we checked out Tammy accused our group of going into another cabin when our plumbing was out to shower. To which we never did and find that to be so bazaar. Very unprofessional, poor customer service, rude, and clearly don't care about their guests. PLEASE, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DONT STAY HERE.

They also have free bike rentals, a great sand volleyball court, horseshoes, basketball, tennis and pickle ball. And if the lake is warm enough, there is a waterslide in the lake which looked fun. We were here Memorial Day weekend, and the weather was beautiful our first day, so we took out the paddleboards, and that was fun. The weather got chilly quickly, so I didn't have the opportunity to try the rest of the amenities. The pool is currently closed for construction. (There is a nice pool at the YMCA in Grand Rapids which we used one day for a $10 day pass). We stayed in a two bedroom lakefront cabin which was nice, but fairly rustic, and one of the bedrooms had absolutely no storage, (no closet, shelves or dresser). Next time, I think we would stay in the lodge rooms, which are a bit more upscale, with fireplaces, full kitchens, Jacuzzi tub and nicer furnishings. They have a restaurant/bar on site with a an outdoor patio and nice view of the lake, which is convenient. They also have free coffee and muffins in the morning at the front desk and at Otis's.The staff and management were incredibly helpful, friendly and accommodating. I definitely recommend, and look forward to coming here again, hopefully when the weather is a little warmer!
