My experience level is kayaking a few times a year on lakes primarily, though I have done ocean harbors and coves also. Our group included some with more and less experience than that. The guides ask for your input ahead of time on what experience you are looking for, and dietary restrictions, which is great. Based on the weather forecast, our guide recommended we consider tandem kayaks. We normally prefer single kayaks but took the advice and were so glad we did as it absolutely helped in powering through the wind and waves of Lake Superior (and the presence of the rudder meant a relatively low amount of coordination required between the two paddlers). The Lost Creek team also quickly acted to put together a plan B when our initial trip to Sand Island was nixed due to a small craft advisory. We ended up going to Basswood island instead. I appreciated the water exit training we did before the trip. The food provided throughout was excellent. Our sights included a seastack, an arch, and a shipwreck. Most of all, the guides ensured we had a fun, safe adventure!

I've kayaked AK, HI and the San Juans (WA) and this was the best! It's a very short bus ride to Meyers Beach so you don't waste a lot of time getting on the water. As a side note, I later learned from another type of boat tour on Madeline Island that there are a few pretenders in the kayak tour business but Lost Creek is considered by locals to be one of the best!!

The location is great, easy trail access, and (somewhat) reasonably priced. We often leave on a Friday afternoon to get a night ride in. What is somewhat annoying is the temperature of the cabin is in the 50s (in the winter months) when you arrive. Meaning, we have to wait for the temp to rise before going for a ride as it's like changing in a walk-in cooler. Not the best way to start a ride on a cold winter's night. Though the other 5 cabins had a picnic table and fire ring, Cabin 1 had a picnic table buried in snow, and no fire ring (though perhaps it was also buried). We had planned on using both, so this was disappointing. It would also be nice if you didn't risk your neck having to navigate the narrow, icy path to the restrooms/showers. Lastly, each cabin should really have a comprehensive trail map on the wall. They would get so much use. Overall, it's a fun place, but could certainly use a tune-up.

We looked around and my wife found Positive Energy and we decided to book a weekend in Duluth so we could go dog sledding. We got all of our warm gear ready and headed out. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner and one of the dogs. Next we got a lesson on sleds and dog teams. Walking into the dog area we got to meet all of the dogs. Then we got to harness them and get them set on the rope of each sled. We learned a lot about dogs and the history of sledding the whole time were were there from the staff. They make sure you really understand everything and take the time to answer every question you have. We did the 3 hour tour and it was amazing!!! We got on the sleds as passengers and after about 25 min mine stopped and I got to drive. Wow was it fun, driving a dog sled on my own across a frozen lake. It was a lot more work than I expected but worth every second. After we were done sledding we helped get the dogs off of the sleds, they got treats and we helped get them back to each dogs house. I recommend Positive Energy to anyone wanting to try dogsledding. The staff and the dogs are amazing!
