I feel bad for reviewing this church and only giving it two stars, especially because someone that…read morewe know is active in it. However, I do not want anyone to go through the same experience that I did at this church. So, I am telling you about it now. Basically, we went because they were having a "block party". I thought that it was nice that they welcome the public, and that everything is free. They even gave us wristbands and got our info. I liked that safety measure. And, they were having a blood drive. You get saved while saving others. Just kiddin'. The people who were working this event were very nice- with one exception (I will get to that). We felt welcomed and I liked the fact that you could go to small tent to hear a Bible story. Devotion does not get lost among the fun. My younger daughter had a lot of fun, despite the blazing sun. In fact, to engage with the activities at this party, you had to wait in longish lines. Which encourages people to show how they really are at heart. My daughter and I were waiting in line for the face painter, along with many others. A clique got in formation in front of us (doubling the amount of adults), and a woman with a toddler jumped ahead of me and my daughter. When the woman who had let her friend jump let her second and third children jump in front of my child after she had just had her toddler's face painted right before the first jumper's toddler had her face painted, well, I had to say something. I let her know that we were next. She was not apologetic at all. Being rude did not faze her. We were nothing to her. One of her kids cut, and the other that had a conscience walked away. Ironically, while waiting in line for the bounce house, her wards tried to cut in front of us. And it was all for sorta naught. The face painter was mean as hell, and did not give the face painting that my daughter requested. My daughter looked Las Vegas. I would hesitate to go to a function at this church again. I try to keep an open mind, but an event that was supposed to welcome others did the exact opposite because of a wolf in sheep's clothing.

They helped me so much being a single mother, I started going to sermons on Wednesday nights where I was welcomed with open arms and non judgment. Being a young woman with wild hair and tattoos this was a first for me from any church I've ever attended. Not only is everyone welcoming but Pastor Stan is a wise man, very wise even when he is addressed with tough questions. He preaches the word with joy in his heart, and I feel He wants us all to fully understand the word. I am happy to come to church every Wednesday and Sunday to be with the body of Christ with this great group of souls. Thank you everyone at West Asheville Baptist Church for all that you do!

Probably the friendliest group of people you'll ever meet. It's sometimes tough to find a church…read morethat takes the bible literally and keeps God's word at the core of everything it does but WABC hits hits the target. I've even met people around town who attend other churches but still try to catch WABC's TV & radio broadcasts. Services are enjoyable and the sermons, while detailed and well researched, are easy to grasp. You listen to recordings on the church's website. The church is active in a wide array of family and community services as well as putting a great effort into outreach. The pastoral staff and deacons are approachable and open but take their work very seriously. There seems to be a Sunday School class for every conceivable group, age or life stage. I don't know how they keep track of them all. For children there are daycare, educational and sports facilities on premises. There's tons of parking. A security officer works out front during services helping people cross streets and keeping an eye on things. The grounds and facilities are well kept. They film all Sunday services and special events like the Christmas special and the massive Easter program they produce every year. I could keep going, I think. There's too much to list here. Check out their website and you'll get some small idea of what a huge effort this church puts into ministry. Church shopping (I hate that term) is always a pain but WABC is definitely worth a visit and a great congregation to be a part of.
