After trying to get in contact with an elderly friend with M.S. and receiving no reply from him I contacted the Arvada Police Department and I met up with two officers at my friends home. They were a tremendous help and very courteous. We got into the home to find my friend was fine, just a little confused. When you're older, alone and with ailments, it's nice to have people to call just to say Hi, how you doing and these two young cops seemed to really understand that and said so. Had to have been the most disrespectful DA and Judge I have ever met as I went to trial for a red light violation and when I tried to describe the poor treatment I received from the police officer during the stop the Judge told me it was irrelevant to the case and then just like a hypocrite turned around and allowed the DA talk about how I was "not" treated poorly and that no guns were drawn on me.... Lmao why would GUNS be drawn on me for a Red Light violation? The DA proceeded to give me condescending looks while periodically looking at the Judge as it was obvious that the Judge is a piece of work just like him otherwise he wouldn't have the courage to behave that way in a courtroom. They continued on with this disrespectful behavior despite having already ruled against me on the traffic violation and had absolutely no regard for my time as I am an Elementary School Teacher and needed to get back to school read more

I was assaulted in my home by a roommate. Police questioned him BEFORE going to the hospital to question me after I had called 911 THREE TIMES! Roommate was never arrested for the crime, and I had to couch surf and find places for my dogs in the meantime. No help getting a protection order. I spoke with the officer for over an hour, and so did my former roommate. The police report is only 3 pages and horribly misrepresents what I told him happened. The case was eventually dismissed by the DA because the responding officer didn't do his job. "Protect and serve" whom?? Not crime victims, that's for sure. read more

Jan. 28, 2019 (Monday) The worst snow day yet as far as the roads are concerned. Minor fender bender at 72nd and Simms around 6:45 am. Police car shows up, then another, then a fire truck comes and blocks the intersection. OK, I can understand the need for safety, but what was troubling was that there were at least 5 police officers standing around in the snow, but not one was able to see the need to DIRECT TRAFFIC!!! Come on ladies and gentlemen, that should be part of your job. Everybody was late for work this morning, and this display of unprofessionalism only added another 25+ minutes to every ones travel time. read more

I will be avoiding driving or shopping in Arvada like the plague... got pulled over at 8:45 this morning for "speeding" they must have special technology in Arvada to separate my vehicle from the rush hour pack I was in...I asked to see the device he supposedly clocked me with - in IL where I lived before they were required to show you the radar or laser gun - I guess in Arvada you are supposed to take their word for it! I don't think so - but the motto in Arvada for the police must be to collect & earn - not protect & serve... so I will just stay out of this town! BTW called the police dept. to complain about the lack of professionalism - was told they don't take complaints - I need to call Internal Affairs & hung up on me! read more

We are from out of town traveling in a motorhome. Our dog had surgery earlier that day in Wheat Ridge. We went shopping at the nearby Walmart. Our other dog was barking constantly b/c if all the foot traffic and the fact that he thinks he has to protect the area. We moved to the side of the building to put groceries away and hopefully hang out for a few hours. We saw the signs that said no overnight parking. Not more than 3 or 4 minutes after we parked an Arvada police officer came knocking at our door. He was nice about telling us that we couldn't stay in the Walmart parking lot all night. It was approximately 11 pm. He said we would have to be out of the parking lot by midnight when Walmart closed. Walmart's closes? My husband explained that we had tried to find an rv park and every other option close by to spend the night at but all were full. He explained that we had asked the only truck stop close by if they allowed over night parking, and they did not. Nor did they have water to fill our tank. We wanted to stay close by because our dog had surgery that day and we were going to pick him up the first thing in the morning. The cop said that it was a city ordinance not Walmart that didn't allow motorhomes or trucks to stay in Walmart's or any other parking lot. He said we could not park on the street anywhere in Arvada overnight. He said he was going off duty soon but that we would be ticketed if we were parked. The officer did give us one helpful suggestion. He said we could go across the street b/c that was the city of Wheat Ridge not Arvada. He was not at all helpful and basically could not any questions my husband had for him. The three stars are for the officer proactively warning us before we broke any laws as well as trying to be nice about it. We still felt harassed however. Next time we will search for a more accommodating Community. read more

What a complete joke! These police don't take anything seriously- I seriously feel like I'm living in a twilight zone. They laugh off the most serious of offenses and make asshole remarks to your face. I have never witnessed such a level of immature unprofessionalism in my entire life. The other day I was at Memorial Park in Arvada Co. I had just capped off an wonderful late afternoon of running around with my boys, playing along the creek, the playground, etc. Quite a lovely time I must say. When it came time to go, we were headed out of the parking lot entrance which is a four-way intersection, cross traffic has a stop sign. Nothing special, just that big red octagon shaped stop sign that we've seen for hundreds of years. As I was nearing the intersection, one cop suv had proceeded through the intersection, as it was his turn. Then here I come but right behind the other cop, his little buddy, trying to keep up, bolts through the intersection without even a brake, nearly hitting me. He turned, smiled and waived, acknowledging what a d-bag thing he'd done. I would have given him zero stars had he responded like 99% of other cops in this world that constantly put themselves above the law, but I feel like his smile and waive were sincere and regretful so I dropped a deuce on him, two stars that is ;) read more

So once again blinding police lights reign upon our street (64th and Deframe). I wonder as I watch the commotion down the way if my neighbor is once again trashed and will I be faced with all my vehicles totaled as I sleep. I wonder, since he missed driving thru our home and killing my family last time, if these lights are for him? It wasn't enough he destroyed everything I had including the vehicle I just bought, he was inconvenienced by the loss of his own oversized truck. How tragic really read more

The Arvada Police Department was WONDERFUL this morning after I got an Emergency/SOS text from my daughter in Arvada. I'm out in California. She sent an emergency notice to my other daughter, also out here in California, and to two friends in Colorado. We weren't able to reach my CO daughter, but I called Arvada Police and an officer was sent out immediately to the site where the phone was, from which we'd gotten the emergency call with the coordinates of where she was. The officer called me as soon as he'd spoken to my daughter, then called again to make sure I'd contacted her and that she was alright. I can't thank the officer because I don't remember his name (I was too upset to think that clearly...I'm sorry, Officer. You were so kind and your help is truly appreciated), but he was kind and efficient and quite prompt. My daughter's sister, father and I, all out here in California, appreciate all this officer and the dispatcher did to set our minds at ease. Thank you SO MUCH!!! You are the best!! read more

My daughter was the cause of a vehicle accident in Arvada two days before Thanksgiving. She was blocks from our home, so I arrived shortly after the accident. Officer Carroll from the Arvada police department arrived to the scene. He was very nice to my shaken up teenager, calming her down, telling her he sees an average of 12 accidents a day and they are not all teenagers. He explained that she needs to prevent distractions, which would ultimately prevent accidents. He also told her to not let this ruin her day (I would say that was too late, but certainly not her week!), everyone was okay and that was the most important part. Officer Carroll was kind and gentle to a completely freaked out teenager. He walked her through the process of the ticket and even explained how the car did exactly what is was made to do; take the impact upon wreck to keep the passengers safe. I commend Officer Carroll and hope all the Officers can take a note from his book, as this can deflate a lot of anxiety and make an already horrible situation a much easier one to cope with.
