It seems there may have been some indignance about the fact that there were no legal charges he could bring against us because an officer of the law made an idiotic mistake in writing a citation with zero evidence to back up the lies she spewed in her police report. Our lawyer witnessed the DA's insensitive and inappropriate accusations made against me. DA Grant said to me: "If you loved your son, he wouldn't have made the comment he did. Go and get some therapy and learn to love your son." He also told me if I didn't get help, we would be sitting back in his office someday as our son's issues get bigger. It is NEVER okay to question a mother's love for her child, especially based upon a "glimpse" of a strained encounter observed from an officer's video footage. A mother's relationship with her child is so deeply personal, her role as a mother so deeply sacred, that it should not be something a deputy district attorney should presume to be an expert about. There were eight years of history and trauma the DA knew nothing about as he sat and brought my motherhood under scrutiny--and he actually thought I would sit in front of him and take it without saying a word! Who is he to suppose he knows anything about my love for my child? Who is he to say we're not already in treatment? What does he know about adoption and attachment issues, or how adoption issues manifest in children? What does he know about Reactive Attachment Disorder? What does he know about our relationship with our child besides a short video clip and a fabricated police report documenting an incredibly stressful encounter as a police officer pressured and accused my husband and I in front of our children? Most mothers are keenly aware of their flaws and limitations, and it is not appropriate for a DA to throw around unsolicited and insensitive statements to people who have not even committed a crime. How would Chandler Grant respond to someone talking the way he did to me to his own wife?

Tip: Make an appointment at least 2 months before your Drivers License expires! You will need to do your renewal in person to get a new photo (required for the new "Real ID"). Tip: Park on the West side of the Department of Revenue Building. That is where the DMV entrance is. I walked in just before my appointment time, gave the person at the check in counter my name, got a number and walked into the DMV to wait. There were only a handful of people waiting and plenty of seating. The building is pretty run down and if you are concerned about cleanliness, you may want to stand or BYO wipes for the plastic chairs. To my surprise, as soon as I walked in, my number was called along with the kiosk to report to. That was great. I didn't even have time to sit down. When you make your appointment online, there is a form with all kinds of information they want you to bring with you to confirm your identity and address (like a paystub, utility bill, etc.). It turns out, they don't actually need any of that if your DL hasn't expired yet and your address has not changed. They confirmed my information and sent me to get my photo taken. I only had to wait for one person ahead of me to get their photo taken. DMV photos are never flattering, but at least I got through it quickly. Unfortunately, at that point, they punch a hole in your ID and hand it back to you with a piece of paper saying your ID is not valid without the paper and that your new ID won't be mailed to you for ~30 days. I do not understand why they cannot print them onsite. So, this will be a PITA for the next month while I wait. However, within a couple of hours, my digital ID on the MyColorado App updated with the new expiration date. So, at least I can use that here in CO.
