Denver Union Station is a very large, very grand structure designed to help human beings move from…read moreone spot on the Earth to another. I did not ride a train here. I simply walked inside, stared at the ceiling, drank coffee, and conducted myself like a person who had accidentally discovered that a transportation building can be a tourist attraction. The central room is called the Great Hall, and it is appropriately named. It features sixty-foot arched ceilings, giant chandeliers, and Beaux-Arts masonry that suggests important historical figures in dramatic clothing ought to be striding through the doors. The original station opened in 1881, burned down in 1894 because wooden structures are vulnerable to fire, and was rebuilt in 1914. A century later, after a long period of quiet decline, it was reimagined as a combination of train terminal, boutique hotel called The Crawford, cocktail venue known as the Terminal Bar, and general indoor living room for the public. It should be noted that it is not meant to stand in as a bedroom, however, as my friend was sternly warned about napping there by a camera guided security officer. If you look closely, the building contains small physical clues about the past. There are display cases showing forgotten items recovered from the original wooden waiting benches, vintage railroad artifacts, and framed architectural blueprints from 1914. These objects serve as physical proof that millions of long-gone citizens once sat in this exact space holding tickets to towns that have since changed beyond recognition or disappeared entirely. I stood with a hot beverage and watched the endless parade of organisms. There were hurried commuters, confused tourists, hotel guests with rolling suitcases, and individuals who had entered for no apparent reason other than that the room was warm and visually pleasing. Outside, Wynkoop Plaza connects the granite building to the Lower Downtown neighborhood with splash fountains and outdoor benches. You can buy a cocktail, eat an expensive meal, or sit on a plush couch and contemplate the sheer volume of human lives that have intersected under this roof over the past one hundred and forty years. I cannot report on whether the Amtrak trains operate according to their printed schedules. Based on my personal experience, I would doubt it, but that is hardly the fault of the station. I have no opinion regarding the cushioning of the waiting room chairs. I did not inspect the platform boarding platforms. I came strictly to observe a magnificent survivor made of stone and iron, and the station performed its duty. Sometimes the most satisfying place to arrive is the building originally constructed to send you somewhere else.

The big four finally wised up, created a consortium, and built the first Union Station in 1881. The original building only lasted until 1894 when an electrical fire destroyed the central hall and 180-foot clock tower. The stone wings survived and a Romanesque central hall was quickly rebuilt. This was demolished and replaced with today's Beaux-Arts Great Hall in 1914. The station was close to abandoned in the 1990s as train travel declined with only two Amtrak trains per day. A massive redevelopment in 2014 converted the station to a multi-modal transit hub including an underground bus terminal for RTD and Greyhound, light and heavy rail, Amtrak, and the 16th Street FreeRide. The Great Hall has been completely restored and now boasts multiple boutique shops, restaurants, bars, and the elegant Crawford Hotel, built into the upper floors. The outdoor Wynkoop Plaza has seating for several restaurants plus a splash pad with computer-programmed water jets that gets lots of attention on hot days. Following the plaza out of the rear (north) side of the building leads to the tracks for heavy rail (Amtrak, the A-line to the airport, and the B-, G-, and N-lines). Continuing to the north is Lightrail Plaza with the RTD C, D, E, L, R, and W routes. The terminus for the 16th Street FreeRide is tucked behind this. The redevelopment of Union Station has been an enormous success. The multi-modal system works great. The bars, shops, and restaurants have been very popular and the Great Hall is comfortable and stunning. This is one of my favorite spots in Denver.

What is the point in paying these medical staff members if they're not doing their jobs properly and within the medical scope of practice? This place has already been on the news once and it so desperately needs to get the same publicity. It's only a matter of time before this place gets another lawsuit. They treat animals better than the people who are inside of here and regardless of what crime they may or may not have committed (because we all know women are allowed to file false charges and land you in here) they deserve to be treated like human beings.

While here, he learned he had colon cancer so I became his official spiritual advisor since I have my seminary degree and work in ministry. The Independence House worked with authorities to allow my friend to move back to California to be with his sister in his dying days, then it got tragic. Workers at the security desk here stole ALL of the medication out of my friend's suitcase and he didn't realize it until he got back to California. So the Filmore House (as it's also called) asked him to come pick up his social security checks and meds, but HE IS IN CALIFORNIA!!! Now, I'm sitting out front, waiting for the police to come to see if I can get my friend's CANCER AND MENTAL HEALTH MEDICATION because they are refusing to return it! Unbelievable!!! Avoid this place at all cost. Some good people work here... the rest SHOULD BE in jail! Ugh! **Update - had to call the police and contact the people who run this place to get the meds and social security checks released. Conner, who is in charge of security, needs to be fired today. This same security desk called me and my friend's sister the day he was released, claiming he left belongings there, left with his fiancé (he doesn't have one) and he had to return immediately. They even told me he said he was staying at my house that night! We were in a panic all night because my friend didn't have his phone charged and we thought he was drunk, dead or in a ditch somewhere. Turns out, he spent the night with his sponsor and told Independence House this before he left. Absolutely, horrible dealing with Conner over there. Inexcusable way to treat people! STAY AWAY!!!

ACRC is a transitional residential facility for women. AKA a halfway house for female convicts…read more FYI, I am neither female nor a convict. HOWEVER, my company has hired 19 of their residents this year and currently still employ several that have completed their term here. The advantages to hiring them don't come without some small problems. Some of the advantages are a population of potential employees EAGER to work and W2W tax credits (download form 8850) from IRS. The disadvantages... well yeah, there are a couple. Many of the residents have constant meetings with case managers and different classes (most can be moved). Some residents that have ID theft convictions and aren't allowed to work with money (sort of a no brainer though). There are some with unusually high amounts of drama, but most of the highest risk convicts go to the facility downtown and don't come from ACRC. I've worked with residents of this facility for several years, most are great. You'll need a very good HR person to interview to weed out people and a experienced trustworthy manager (since many haven't seen a man in a long time). Occassionally, there will be some odd situations. The gas station across the street from us closed it's bathroom cause one of the gals turned tricks in there after work. Other than that, the facility is well run. The Center Director has come to visit us and I get the feeling very little gets past her. Most of the case managers there are very polite and professional with us too.

Acrc then cuts checks to them two weeks later for the amount they request if approved. Yes this does teach the girls budgeting, planning, and responsibility. But when these girls receive these checks and take them to king sopers or walmart or even the bank they cannot cash these checks because they bounce. So tell me how a place that has over 100 residence living there paying rent and turning in their earned money to them cannot even cover checks for personal needs. And because of this some of the girls are at risk of being regressed back to jail or even prison. This to me is very wrong. 90% of the girls there are working very hard to change their lives for the better and all acrc is doing is taking money from these girls and spending their money on who knows what then telling the girls "if you don't like it we will send you back". Needless to say all the girls are scared to take action against acrc due to back lash from acrc. To me this sounds like a fraud. I am personally taking steps to help threw the BBB, consumer protection and the arapahoe sheriff's office and I truly hope that others will to.

We called the DAs office and were told that investigation needed to be done, to contact the precinct. We've done that with no success. This department is a failure to the community it is supposed to serve and I'm ashamed that I moved from Houston Tx to this.

Plumber and appliance technician did not find any technical issues. However, the technician said that a human intentionally started the water leak. After examining washing machine and utility room where the washing machine was located he stated that some person intentionally loosened connection of cold water hose to the washing machine and blocked a floor drain in the utility room. All these findings clearly indicated that the crime had been committed. Many times I filed reports with Denver Police. Every time they simply ignored my reports. Finally, months later they issued temporary case number and then permanent case number 2025-6016468. Detective Bret Curtis (?) called me. It was clear from the beginning of conversation that he had zero intentions to investigate. For instance, he stated that it was impossible to investigate because there was no video showing crime in progress. (Does Denver Police investigate murders only if videos of murders are present?) He kept saying that I needed to take my tenant to Civil Court. On what grounds? Do I know that my tenant committed this crime? No. This is why investigation was needed, to establish who committed the crime. The crime was committed and I wanted Denver Police to investigate it. Just like an arson, an intentional flooding is a crime intended to destroy property. The facts clearly indicate that Denver Police does not care about crimes like this. What kind of police is this? After the ones who were told to come in and after another 45 minutes wait we were all told there was a stay and we could leave. Thank God.

If you are "lucky" enough to make it through that round, you will be taken upstairs to the courtroom for the voir dire process. Depending on the number of jurors needed, you may need to stay for lunch. There is a reasonably priced cafeteria with hot and cold options and snacks.
