But I have to consider the fact that this is the only prison that my son is getting out early for good behavior. And he's been in one prison or another since he was 16 , so about 12 years. However, I also have to take into consideration that this is also the only prison my son has ever been shanked in due to lack of proper procedure by 2 of the guards. In my opinion they were paid to do what they did. Because everyone knows you don't walk two prisoners right by each other in certain areas. There are incidents in this prison where other prisoners have been hurt due to lack of proper procedures or are the guards getting paid off to look the other way! This prison has GED programs and tablets for the prisoners to keep them active. Which I think is a wonderful thing! I put money on my sons tablet all the time. I just think this prison needs to get it's guard in order.

My grandfather was an immigrant coal miner. The mining history in our area runs deep. The statue is located by Chadick Park where there are several other points of interest to see. There is a large chunk of coal and an even bigger one in Krebs.

1943-1945 WW2, McAlester was home to almost 3,000 German POW's. It's hard to believe that less than…read more80 years ago McAlester was part of such significant history. I have heard rumors that originally it was an interment camp for Japanese Americans for one year prior to housing Germans. I also heard that it was going to house Italian POW's but due to the local population of Italian immigrants they where housed elsewhere. It would be very interesting to dive more in to this part of our local history. The miniature castle was built by the POW's and there is another one at the old McAlester High School.

Krebs serves; ribs, brisket, Loveras sausage and hot links. They also serve Pizza and fresh deli sandwiches. I always order (to go) 4 Muffuletta's with the marinated olive salad in a separate container. The sandwich is not the typical round Italian bread with sesame seeds, they have what I would call a Italian homemade crusty bread, the bread cut horizontally then loaded with thinly sliced Genoa salami, Mortadella, ham and provolone cheese. Once I get home I add the delicious marinated olive salad to each sandwich, then the family and enjoy this assume sandwich. Krebs is one of the reasons I travel with an ice chest. Yum, Muffuletta's for dinner tonight.
