I had a very disappointing experience at this dental office. My appointment started poorly when the…read moredentist arrived 45 minutes late. After beginning the procedure and applying numbing gel, the dentist stopped , saying they needed to "double-check if my fillings were covered." I was then left in the chair for an extended period while overhearing staff scrambling to figure out how to charge me. I already knew my fillings were 100% covered by my insurance (Aetna), so I called Aetna directly and placed a patient advocate on speakerphone to clarify. I walked the front desk (bib still on and mouth numb) and instead of engaging professionally with the insurance representative, both the dentist and receptionist only addressed me, ignoring the representative's questions. When the rep attempted to call the office directly, the line failed repeatedly she even asked if their phone line might be blocked, which from past experience may have been the case since their line is always busy or had a dead end dial tone. The insurance representative confirmed on the spot that my fillings were fully covered and offered to send an explanation of benefits. Despite this, the dentist canceled my appointment, stating I'd have to reschedule after a pre-authorization was approved which was unnecessary for the procedure. It became clear that because my plan is a DMO, where the office already receives monthly payments for enrolled patients, they were attempting to delay or avoid providing a covered service they wouldn't profit from. To make matters worse, as I was leaving, I overheard staff discussing me as if I were the problem simply because I refused to agree to unnecessary charges. This experience felt unprofessional, misleading, and unethical. I would strongly recommend seeing another practice. They certainly were not my first choice but this late in the year it's hard to find an opening. Other patients ...especially those with DMO insurance verify coverage directly and be cautious about potential upcharges AND misinformation.

Later, when I called my insurance I was told they did not have any claims from this office for me and that I wasn't on their roster. They said they would assign me and permit them to back-bill to correct an error but the dental practice refused to back bill. I had three appointments totaling nearly $6000 before I learned that I was paying cash. The office personnel provided fraudulent information about billing. If I had received truthful information I would have stopped treatment before incurring expenses and contacted my insurance company to learn why I was being charged a non-insurance price. The dentist also arrived 20-30 minutes late for each of my appointments. The dental assistants are very nice.

John Heinz III Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center consists of several buildings…read more Departments include orthopedics, radiology, physical rehabilitation, urology, gynecology, audiology and speech, primary care, vision, dentistry, mental health, nutrition, etcetera. A family member of mine has been a patient at this VA off and on for years. Recently, I visited him while he was an inpatient for rehabilitation. I felt surprised by how large the campus was, but I found the building that I needed. Many free parking spaces were available. I also felt surprised that in June 2023, this VA still requires that visitors wear a face mask, but I understand that extra precautions are never a bad idea around patients. I saw that most employees wore face masks, but a couple employees did not. I have worked as a nurse at other healthcare facilities, and I thought that the clinical employees here took good care of my family member. The employees responded promptly to call-bells, and they spoke nicely to patients and visitors. The facility allowed a maximum of three visitors per patient's room, so I appreciated that the building had a large meeting room where patients and additional visitors could socialize. After many days, my family member was discharged to home. He looks to have regained much of his health and strength.

People are not relying on efficiency to keep their jobs though, so waits can sometimes be long for no apparent reason.

I didn't get a visit summary after any of my visits and there is a lot to remember.
